My wife and I are thinking about going to Hoop De Doo next year during our 10th anniversary trip. We have never been and I was wondering how you guys like it.

Ok, keep in mind this is someone who had serious issues with HDDR.

My mom dragged me and my brother to HDDR every freaking year when we were growing up and went on a Disney vacation. I then created a passion of hatred to this little ditty. In fact that is the only thing my brother and I can agree on is how retarded HDDR is. :bored:

So this past trip I went on vacation with my family (hubby and kids) and my father and stepmom. This is the first time I had been on vacation with him since I was 13. So as a nice thing to do since I am the ultra planner, I let him choose where he wanted dinner one night and where did he say?? You guessed it HDDR.

I sighed :faint: and groaned but did it anyway figuring hay, its worth the quality time with my dad. So with great reluctance I got out my cc and told them I had DDE and wanted to book, darn it all if I have to suffer through this again its going to be cheaper!!!

So we go and my oldest son gets pulled on stage and you know what, I actually enjoyed it. I think the last time I went I was around teen to pre-teen so seeing it as an adult (and trying to keep an open mind) I enjoyed it. My oldest was the Texas Ranger and it was great fun watching him. Lets just say being shy is NOT a problem for that child, good grief!!

So as an adult I did enjoy it, the food was good and I liked the Strawberry shortcake!

I guess what I am trying to say is go and have fun. Its not so bad after all ;)

We went for our honeymoon. It's been a while, but I remeber having a LOT of fun there.

It's ammusing. I would book it now and think about it, as the seating is first come first serve on the reservations.

Thumbs down for me. I just don't enjoy the corny "hee haw" type humor and the food was just so-so. But if you like that sort of humor I am sure you'd have a lot of fun.

We've been lots of times, years ago, and the whole family loved it ! Next summer we are taking our much larger family to share our 50th wedding anniversary and, you guessed it, I made reservations for the HOOP-DEE-DOO! I sure hope it's as much fun as I remember. Honi :bluebloun

We haven't been in a few years though we used to go each time.

Personally, I think its a lot of fun. I find the corny humor and the old west theming quite magical. DW, on the otherhand, feels she's been there enough. The kids loved it, really loved it. We have pictures of both strumming their washboards with their spoons with big ol' smiles.

Food is fine, not outstanding, just fine and too darn much of it.

The only thing that bothers me is the first-come first-sit method. You really need to sit on the main floor in the center, and the only way to do that is to get there a good 90 minutes in advance, get your name on the list and wait to be called. Sitting upstairs or in the back corner just doesn't do it for me. And it makes for some very un-Disney-like behavior on the part of the guests. I've heard many a grumpy patron loudly complaining about their seats.

I do want to go again and suggest it everytime. I think its a good time and a real Disney experience that everyone should try.

Go for it and let us know what you think.

We've done it a couple of times, but the times we had the most fun were when some in our party ended up on stage, and when we were the center table that got all the attention.

Our family loved it. It was my DH's and my 14th anniversary, and we had our 3 kids plus DH's brother, his wife, and their 2 kids with us. We had to dance (since it was our anniversary). THe kids stayed wrapped up in all the action - my one regret is that you pay so much, but it's so hard to eat with everything going on! The food isn't anything super special, but it was hot, fresh and as tasty as any other fried chicken and such type food I've ever had.

We definitely want to do it again... but now we face the problem of 2 of our 3 kids being considered adults by Disney (at the tender ages of 11 and 10!) We may have to skip it for the next few trips until they become teens and can eat their money's worth and then some, LOL! :goodvibes
