Ok, so I've never done this before.
I'm getting a little squirrelly about availability for the marathon weekend. I own SSR, but know someone who owns BCV. I'd like to book BCV since it's part of the marathon course. Could she book it for me as a guest ressie, then I just transfer the points to her? THen how would the ressie work...in my name, just like if I booked it myself?
TIA!

I guess I'm not quite clear on what you're asking here.
I think, based on the way you presented it, that you'd basically be like a renter in this instance. She'd be doing you the favor of making the ressies in your name, for which you'd be giving her points, right?
Although the points that you transfer to her are supposed to remain as SSR points, chances are pretty good that they'll convert over to BCV points, as well as to your friend's current UY (unless she specifically asks otherwise) once the transfer occurs (due to the way MS's system works).

Thanks, Kim. Sorry to be so mysterious :hammer:
It's the 7month window that I'm trying to beat. I can't book BCV until June, but I've heard availability is already getting a little tight for marathon weekend at BCV and BWV. Since my friend has BCV, I was thinking she could go ahead and book for me now, then I just transfer her the points. I've never rented before either, so I guess that's all it would be?

Your friend will have to make the reservations at BCV for you to take advantage of the 11 month window. The points that you transfer will become your friends resort and UY. I had points transferred to my account last year because I needed a few more points and that is what happened. It is important to make sure of the UY because I had to bank the points that I got transferred to my account. Mine were for Feb. 05 and the person points that I got were for Oct. 05. Since they now changed to my Feb. 05 UY and I wasn't using them until June 06 they had to be banked. I hope this helps and doesn't make it more confussing.

I agree that transferred points, although they are not supposed to, do end up becoming the u/y of the person they were transeferred to. I have had that experience both times I have done transfers. There is a glitch in the system which somehow causes all point transfers done electronically to take on the use year of the person they are being transferred to.
However if you tell MS what you are trying to do they CAN make the transfer to your account and have the points maintain the u/y of the person who transferred them to you. The CM you are working with will have to do it "by hand" instead of the automatic computer way. This is the only way the ressie can still be in your control and you get that 11 month BCV window. Otherwise if you friend makes the ressie it will be in your name, but your friend controls the points. As long as you trust your friend it won't make a difference.
If you "swap" points with your friend without telling ms to do it by hand (and then following up to be sure they did it right) you will both end up with points taking on your own u/y when transferred, thus putting you back to square one with that 11 month window you want.

Got it. Then it's pretty much as I described: you become like a renter. She can make the ressies in your name originally, no problem with that.
And with regard to UY, that can be changed manually as well. (For example, we transferred some Aug 2006 SSR pts to someone who had Feb 2005 BCV UY, but wanted those pts to go into their 2006 UY. Initially, the pts were transferred into her 2005 UY. Then, MS transferred them into their 2006 UY with an additional phone call, so the pts wouldn't have to be banked.)

Hmm... Mar and I were posting at the same time. Guess my pts didn't retain my Aug 2006 UY because they were "future" pts (we transferred them in Aug 2005)????? Weird.... I know that it took three days for the pts to show up in her account, so there was a glitch somewhere....
Anyway, things *can* get straightened out *manually*, and that's the important "point"....

It pays to have friends who are members.

I just got REAMED big time for posting a very similar scenario on another board. Guess which board that was :) Mod asked me if I wanted the thread deleted because it was "scamming" the system. It was Member Services who suggested it in the first place! The Mod suggest I contact Jim Lewis at DVC and let him know that MS was giving me this info. Ended up just asking for the thread to be deleted. Geeze....
