Imagine for a moment that you have $2500 - 3000 burning a hole in your pocket. What would you do with it:
1. Take 4 - 5 night trip to Disneyland in CA.
2. Buy 25 - 30 DVC points.
(I know that doesn't seem like many points, but it will still get you at least one night per year in a 1B or 2B, or 2-3 nights per year in a studio...for about 48 more years.)

Come out to California for a visit. You can do the add on after Hawaii and or Contemporary are announced. ;)

Buy the points. As you said Tim, the points are good for 48 years. The vacation would be done in a week. Of course, you will be paying dues on those points for 48 years as well. I guess that is also something to consider.

Take your favorite picture of Cindy's Castle. Cut off the bottom half of the pic. Cut 25% off each side. Cut the top 3rd off the pic. Tonight, after the sun goes down, go stand on the hood of your car, hold the pic in either hand and extend your arm all the way out, put a flashlight in your mouth and shine it on the pic and kinda squint your eyes to fuzz your vison a little.
There, you've just stood in the train station and looked down Main Street in DL.
Go buy your points.

Go to Disneyland, especially if you haven't been there yet. While it may have some of the same attractions as the Magic Kingdom, that's where the comparison ends.

I voted DL. Since you asked me what I WOULD DO! LOL...We really have enough points right now after our last addon. And I got a itch to go to DL (never been)
If you've been thinking about some extra points, so I say go for that!

Buy the points. Someday I'd like to try DL but I'd never turn down a chance for more points.

OMG, that is EXACTLY what I was thinking, having just come from there with our direct-deposit mouth DS9! He just got done with the palate expander... but now we are looking at both ds getting the braces by next year...and dd will have to get an expander at same time. Our dental insurance covers $1000 per kid, max. Doesn't even make a dent. Not sure the 3K would make much of a dent either - but I'd take it!
So I guess I can admire their braces next year and say, "There's our add-on!" Sigh. I actually don't begrudge them for it, though; I'm happy we can afford to do this. I should have had braces as a child (namely, the expander - I have a narrow upper palate - that's who they inherit it from. You can't tell much by my smile - it looks fairly straight, hence, my parent's poo-poohed the notion of me needing braces). As an adult, it would require major surgery to correct my mouth now, so I have to live with a slight lisp that I work hard to cover (my mom thought it was "cute"... gee thanks mom, but guess it didn't occur to her that what's cute at 6 isn't so great at 36. Didn't want to sound like Cindy Brady as an adult) and also nasty TMJ (and frequently bitten inside cheeks - ouch.) Maybe THAT's why I align myself with gopher, haha. Anyway, I have an immense appreciation for the functions of dental alignment, beyond just asthetic value. DH had braces and has the gorgeous smile to prove it... he has my envy.

Buy the points and borrow from next year and book as many days at DL as you can with that. If need be, add a few days for cash some place cheaper. That way you can have your:birthdayc and eat it too.

I like the buy the points, borrow and use them for DL idea.
I would use the money for debt relief, so it rocks that you don't have to worry about that! Good for you. :) May we all one day be faced with such choices!

Of the choices... Points. DL point rate go down even further in 2007. Banking, borrowing, and '07 points, those 30 points become 4-5 nights at DLH.

Well, I just found a spare $2300 in my pocket; guess what I'm doing this weekend? :jumpingbe And no, it's NOT a trip to DL! I need to add a few more points to my stash, so off I go!!! (That would be my vote...)

Off Thread Question:
What is the purpose of the POLL sub in the community board?
I thought all polls had to go there, that's why I stopped polling.
Can a Moderator please enlighten me?
TIA

The way I see it, this is a serious poll designed by someone seeking input/advice on a specific topic relating to the purchase of additional points -- which is why it fits in this category. It is not a "fluffier"/joke-like poll like those found in the CH subforum. Does that make sense?

On-topic polls are certainly welcome in different forums. The purpose of the Poll sub-forum was simply to help organize the CH a little better. It's such a big catch-all that we decided to try and segregate things for ease of use.
Why would that discourage you from posting polls?

I would go for the points.
1 - Because you can use the points at DL. Yes I know you still need to spend the $$ to get out there and blah blah but you know.
2 - DL would probably be only a one time trip. Or at the most a very small handful but with the points you can get more.
3 - Put it in savings and wait for the POLY DVC to come out.
Honestly I think that is what I would do, put it in svgs and wait for another DVC I really wanted and buy.

I still think everyone should get to DL at least once. It's a great place in itself - and neat to see the differences. I know CA ADV gets a lot of flak - but we REALLY like the park( more than MGM or AK) - and it has things you won't get anywhere else.
I like the add-on with using the points to go to DL!

I like cobbler's idea: save the money to buy DVC. You could take a trip to DL at some point.
On the flip side (I am a Libra & we see both sides to every story....) maybe you are trying to get out to DL during the 50th celebration? I am trying to do that later this summer. I am trying to use some of my dad's RCI points/week to get a place there (I am coming up empty). We are going to book an inexpensive but clean hotel just as a back up. If this is what you are trying to do, I would go for it.

Belated thanks to everyone for their feedback. I'm not so sure about using points for DL rooms since it's just so darn expensive. However, I do think it makes some sense to wait a couple more years before journeying to DL. Our daughter is still a couple months away from turning 3 and I'd rather wait until she is a little older to perhaps remember some of the trip. While I wouldn't call it once-in-a-lifetime, there's no way we will ever get out to California as frequently as we do Florida.
