Kids were watching Nick I think it was and I heard an advertisement for Song of the South from the other room! I ran back and rewound it with TIVO and it is a DVD coming out (not Disney's) of Song of the South. New animation with the voice of Danny Glover.
Very interesting...
We picked up a copy of Disney's Song of the South at Disneyland Paris years ago and had to get it converted into our format.

I LOVE the original. Just hope the remake lives up to the first one!

With all of todays PC editing, it won't.

I never saw SOTS, but the Disneyland Disney Treasures DVD has a small cartoon excerpt from it. Since seeing that, I have more appreciation for Splash Mountain.
Bob Iger was asked about this at the Annual Meeting, and he said there are no plans for Disney to release it on DVD in the United States.

We were sooooo bad - we actually bought a copy on DVD from Canada that was basically recorded from an old VHS tape onto DVD. Hey - if Disney refuses to release the movie, then I'm gonna get it somehow!
It was really interesting to watch the whole thing. Made my DS's want to ride Splash Mountain finally! But I did watch it with them just to see what the hub-bub was about. I suppose we don't want any debate here - so just take this as MHO..... nothing more.
It certainly portrayed slavery in an interesting light! I stopped the movie a few times and explained to my DS's why this was probably wildly inaccurate but that it was made a long time ago, etc etc. I don't think the protrayal of any of the slaves in their own right was bad, especially considereing when the movie was made.
I have to say - I've seen many more movies that are out now that would be more offensive! I think if Disney released the DVD maybe with a well made documentary on it's original story, making, info on what could be offensive to some, etc - I just don't see it as being a problem.
The movie was made - it's out there, and people are watching it. I think it would be better for the company to be up-frony about the whole thing instead of pretending it didn't happen! That makes it a bigger deal.

I am ordering it from the UK so I will let everyone know what I thought of it once we finally get it and watch it which could be a bit with shipping and all.
