View Full Version : Put EE in terms my DS11 can relate to...

Can anyone tell me how EE rates, next to say, M:S and test track and RNR, in terms of "scare" factor?
Reason: I have a very tenative 11 yr old who loves M:S and Test track, but will not ride Splash Mtn or BTMRR or RNR. I think he worries about cars leaving the track, LOL - it took a LOOONG time to get him to ride Test Track, but only his love of NASCAR got him through it! (Well, that, and his 4 yr old sister riding it fearlessly. What peer pressure does to a kid, I tell ya.) I think he is "ok" w/ M:S because he never "sees" it leave the building - he thinks of it as one big computer simulation, so what could go wrong? Same thing with Star Wars. I'm sure he will be fine with Soarin for the same reason. Ironically, however, he will NOT ride ToT - he watched a show on TV when he was 9 and it told the "story" behind ToT and he got up afterwards, and said matter-of-factly, "Well, that does it - if you think I'm getting on THAT ride, think again. Did you HEAR what happened to those people?" He's such a literalist.
But what about EE? ANd tell me this -as you approach the EE area - can you "see" and "hear" fear (i.e. the screams and squeals as people rush my on the ride)?
That would pretty much do it for him, I'm betting....

Yeah, he's not going on EE. :D
You can hear a lot of screaming. You can also see the car ducking in and out of the mountain in a couple of places.
EE is going to be a gawker's delight. The ride car comes really close to people standing outside. You can get a lot closer to the attraction than, say, BTMR.
I'm in the same boat Gopher. DD, 11, is not fond of the coasters, (though Splash Mt is #1 ride). She's tried BTMRR, ToT and RnR once, only after feeling shamed that younger brother (by 3 years) loves them. She's never done Space Mt or Mission Space and I doubt she'll go near EE if she can hear the screams and feel the whoosh of cars.

I agree with Tim on this. EE is a gawkers dream. Even though they are all "this is the greatest thing in the world scream!, there are a lot of screams. The big drop is the showcase of the waiting area. Maybe he might change his mind???

I have a feeling I won't be getting either of my boys on it.... they will be 9 and 10 when we go next.... but they are a bit chicken. They loved Test Track and Mission Space, the older one likes BTMR. But niether will ride Space Mountain because of the dark, and older only rode RR once because I bribed him. Hey - Maybe a great big bribe....... I personalyy can't wait to get on it!

AWSOME photo ghost! (you post some of the coolest pics! :rockband: ) Oh man I cant wait!!!!
gopherit-There is just no way my ds (6 almost 7 but looks 10!)) will go on this- He will ride Test Track all day but will totally freak if I suggest Splash or totally out of the question RNR- My fault completely and I learned the hard way which had totally changed his attitude for any type of "mountain" ride.
Took him over to (gasp) Island of Adventure and went on the Popeyes water ride. It didnt look too "bad" before we went on but after it absolutely terrified him- I felt so guilty for not trying it first. He was a little apprehensive but I encouraged him..."oh its fine really ..look...that little guy just went on" blah, blah, blah... oh I am feeling bad again just thinking about it- :(
See how your ds feels when he see it- If he doesnt go on EE this trip there will be other trips that he will be able to experience it when hes ready- :) Good luck! :)

don't beat yourself up, oK!? :flowerfor My mom never prerode anything when we were growing up! She swears up and down I rode Space when I was 4 back in the 70s before there was a height limit. I don't know if I believe the age on that story she tells, but do now that is how she got me on all the big rides..."look that little girl who is smaller than you laughing about how much fun...etc"
you are a GREAT mom!

I don't think your 11 year old will be able to go on it. Hopefully, at some point, he will decide "I want to ride this" and go on.
My 6 year old niece has turned into a dare devil. She'll go on anything (Well, except Haunted Mansion LOL) but when she was 4, she was still afraid of most rides. One day, she decided she was ready for big rides and there's been no turning back.

I think we've all had those oops moments. I've done it a few times with noe pre-riding - and I always assume that if the little tiny kids are having a blast mine will be ok. Big mistake!!!!!! More poor 7 yo was in tears after Indiana Jones at DL........ He almost hyperventilated on the ride. Really bad thing - I had ridden it before and really thought he'd like it since it wasn't a roller coaster.

 Tell him there is no way you will let him go on it this trip, maybe you'll let him go someday. This way, you set him up for a rebellious change of heart in the future :highfive: :jumpingbe :woohoo:

I haven't ridden EE yet, and I'll be looking for someone to hold my hand on an upcoming trip!!! (feel free to volunteer!)
I will say though that in December I stood looking at that first climb and it looked VERY high and steep (this was before the sneak preview, I was watching test runs)
I'll ride Space Mountain if I have a 'buddy', won't do Tower of Terror anymore, and won't do RnR. I think that EE sounds like it would be ok, but that hill is intiimidating to someone who may be nervous......
