NEXT ROUND IS HERE: http://www.mouseowners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=171595#post171595

Following up on the WDW Dining Field of 64 (last round found here: http://www.mouseowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16865), as previously advertised ( http://www.mouseowners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=169236 ), we will now stop eating and commence having fun!

First stop(s) is the combined Disney Hollywood Studios – Animal Kingdom Tournament.

How the Tournament(s) Will Work

The full DHS-AK Tournament is divided into 2 halves: not surprisingly, it’s the Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom brackets. The winner of each will play in the final of the DHS-AK Tournament. This time the 4 sub-brackets are entitled the “Hollywood” and “Studios” brackets and the “Animal” and “Kingdom” brackets (rather than North, South, East and West).

We will play this Tournament to completion. However, the Sweet 16 from each HALF of this tournament (that is – the first round winners) will advance to the so-called “Theme Park Super Bracket” after this tournament as will the Sweet 16 (that is the third round winners) of each of the separate Epcot and Magic Kingdom tournaments (which will follow the conclusion of this one) are played out. Those larger parks can fill their own Tournaments. Just keep in mind that this means that teams that lose in this tournament will ultimately advance to the Super Bracket. The Super Bracket team seeds will be determined by their performance in the previous tournaments, though.

Selection Committee

Also, after a rigorous interview process, there were 3 members added to the Selection Committee for the Theme Park Round (different members will serve on subsequent Fields (beyond the parks, resorts, characters, movies and songs) if they continue to get support. The members are: EriktheWise, Silly Words Wanted and AFMom. Ex-officio member is TikiTwinsMom. We worked together to develop a Field of 64 entrants for the DHS-AK (32 for each park) and seeding. We also consulted the Unofficial Guide and Passporter’s book for more objective ratings. The Selection Committee will be permitted to vote.

The Field

The DHS-AK field is composed of more than just attractions. This helps not only fill up the field, but also leads to the inclusion of some non-attraction icons that would otherwise miss the Tournament (like the Tree of Life and Sorcerer’s hat). It also allows for the inclusion of shops and minor restaurants and snack places that did not qualify for the WDW Dining Tournament.

How to Vote

Below is a separate postings with the first round matchups for each sub-bracket of the DHS-AK Tournament. Vote however you want to get your point across (separate posts or a single post, by name or number, list winners – whatever you want).

You can vote on whatever basis you want – it is purely democratic and subjective – but here are some things that you might want to keep in mind: (1) fun factor (of course), (2) longevity (is it a classic?), (3) the “magic” feeling and theming (including the queue, show building, music and cast members), (4) your own personal memories (your first ride on your first trip, the time you were picked to be in Harbor Attack on the Backlot Tour (like me!)), and (5) length of queue and/or availability of FastPass. You also may want to ask yourself if you could only do one thing or the other, which would you choose?

Length of Voting and Tallying

As before, length of voting will vary based on demand. As this is the first round and I think we need to at least get one weekend day in, I don’t think this will close before Saturday, but I will announce in advance.

Please try to pick a winner if at all possible. Ties and “non-votes” make things hard. Don’t be wishy-washy! :) If you need help, I suggest Googling any entry or looking on allears.net.

Please do not publicly tally votes as I think it may put a damper on things. You may tally for your own enjoyment of course. I will also try to periodically post “teasers.” I will tally winners, post a recap and new rounds and voting will begin again.

In the event of a tie, voting will be extended for two hours. To keep the tournament moving along, however, and to cut down on me begging, the votes of the three Selection Committee members will be used to break the tie (assuming all 3 voted). We’ll re-evaluate this rule in later rounds if need be.

HAVE FUN and THANKS - AS ALWAYS – FOR PLAYING! [Brackets follow this post]

(13) Chester & Hester Carnival Games - This is a sentimental favorite of mine. On our first trip to WDW together, Ian and I played "whack a packa cephalosaurus" near the end of the day. The two of us, another really tall, younger athletic looking guy and 3 teeneagers. The teenagers never knew what hit them er... the cephalosauruses. The three of us adults were within the final nanosecond of each other whacking the tenth cephalosaurus (imagine the closesness of the olympic bike ride, yep that close), but Ian pulled it out, winning the coveted Big Dino for me. The first time since I was in junior high that one of my beaus won a stuffed animal. And this one sits in a place of honor, it presides in our bedroom and wears a Nerf crown like the Statue of Liberty.

First of all, you and the selection team rock, this is so much fun!

Now then on to the competition:

Animal bracket:

This is a runaway for the Safari. Haramba village is just the place the Safari keeps its queue, the towel guy for the team if you will.
The Oasis wins in the lowest scoring match of the tournament.
I'm a notorious parade hater, so I'm going with the acrobats on this one
Kali River Rapids. I like an underdog as much as the next guy, but, c'mon! :)
Wes Palm (not much to say, robots are cool)
Discovery trail, I don't think this matchup was even televised.
Dinosaur! (when did they change the name anyway) Vs. some trail I can't spell, maybe this one will be a shutout?
Primeval Whirl... I can't even think of anything to say about the other one.

Kingdom:

Everest, I know how unoriginal.
Of the two, I like Express train because I don't have to worry about getting sand in *ahem* strange places.
Carny games are cool, but Tough to be a Bug will take this one for sure, just with its sheer ability to horrify toddlers.
Despite numerous technical fouls for flinging... stuff, a troupe of primates will easily walk over a human plant, Pangani Forest Trail.
Here's the surprise sleeper: The steel drum band will take it because their mellow island grooves means they won't expend all of their energy in some big production opening number.
Tree of Life cause it's really tall.
I think the tigers will eat the merchants alive, so Jungle Trek wins it.
I missed the final game going to lunch at Rainforest Cafe or something, but I think my toddler wants the petting zoo to win.

Hollywood

ToT... no commentary here, just a straight up smackdown.
Playhouse Disney, I'll probably vote against it once I have to take the kiddes to see it.
Just because seeing B&B is 25 minutes of my life I'll never get back, I'm voting for the arcade.
The battle of the movie tie-ins... Going with the Little Mermaid on this one.
The Muppets for sure will snag the High School Musical teeny boppers in a net full of Jello.
Despite fears of being seen at this matchup and forever being branded a nerd for life, I'm still going to go with the Jedi Academy
A completely uninformed vote for Toy Story.
And in the matchup of two things Steve never bothers to go see any more: the edge goes to the Backlot Tour because they have fire.

Studios

Fantasmic takes this one of course, candy melts when fire is applied to it. Sure the DHS version of Fantasmic may be 2nd string to the California version, but they have a better stadium.
Walt Disney Story, only because I'm going to hell if I say otherwise :ROTFL:
If the perhaps let you bungee jump off of the tower it might be more fun than Star Tours.
Car crashes!!!
Ok, the Boston rockers are getting up there in years, but they can easily off a gift shop. Should I put in some sort of pun about them walking this way? nah... Rock 'n Rollercoaster wins easily.
I have it on good authority that bost of these things exist, so it sounds like Magic of Disney animation could take it.
The grand old lady of the Studios, the Great Movie Ride should have no problem over the playground.
I've never seen the Indy show (no kiddin') but I have seen the giant hat, so the hat wins.

1 Kilimanjaro Safari
8 Oasis Area (always feel like we should spend more time there)

4 Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade
5 Kali River Rapids

2 Finding Nemo - The Musical (LOVE this)

3 Countdown to Extinction (that's the name I'm sticking with)
6 Primeval Whirl (bring on the spinning!)

KINGDOM SUB-BRACKET

1 Expedition Everest
9 Rafiki's PlanetWatch: Wildlife Express Train

8 Playhouse Disney Live! (going for the 1st time in October)

4 Beauty & the Beast Show
5 Voyage of the Little Mermaid

2 MuppetVision 3D (anyone who loved the Muppet Show as a kid loves this!)
7 Block Party Bash (haven't seen it, but have no desire to be a Jedi)

3 Toy Story Midway Mania (high hopes for this one when we get there in October)
11 Sounds Dangerous (love the chance to rest inside a dark, air-conditioned theater, not really the show itself)

STUDIOS SUB-BRACKET

1 Fantasmic! (gotta love it. Yes, I know the one in DL is better, but boy do they need a stadium to show it in)
9 Streetmosphere Characters (they were a riot when we caught them for the 1st time in January)

3 The Great Movie Ride (a classic)
6 Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular (not a huge fan, but reallllly not a fan of the hat)

This is too much fun! I can't wait to see Epcot and MK's version.

Here's my vote:

Animal
Harambe Village: Love the safari, don't get me wrong, but ever since we've been going, my kids always stop to play at the drum area at the edge of
Harambe. It's a fun place to just stop and take AK in.

Oasis: Just a nice peaceful area.
Karuka Acrobats: This is a fun group. DS was picked to be in their performance as we waiting for our ADR at Tusker House.

Kali River Rapids: No question. Awesome theming in the queue. Great refresher on a hot day. My kids ride this over and over all the time.

Wes Palm
Camp Minnie Mickey: Just love the theming and layout here, especially at Christmas time.

Dinosaur
Primeval Whirl: DD favorite ride in AK.

Kingdom Bracket

Royal Anandapour Tea Company: I know this will probably lose to EE, but I LOVE tea! I'm not a huge coaster fan, so I'm hoping some of the non-coaster, tea-loving people will vote with me!

Boneyard: Only the coolest playground in all of WDW
Tough to be a Bug
DiVine: She's just too cool, especially when people see her for the first time.
Festival of the Lion King: Kids have been picked to be in the show twice here. Love that participation.

Discovery Island Shops
Planetwatch

Hollywood Bracket

Echo Lake: I know this one will lose again, but I'm not a coaster person so I just can't vote for RNR.

Pixar Meet & Greet
Beauty & The Beast Show
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Muppets in 3D
Jedi Training - how can you not vote for this? A chance to lightsaber battle with Darth Vader!

Toy Story Mania
Backlot Tour

Studios Bracket

Fantasmic
Streetmosphere
Star Tours
Lights, Motors, Action
Tatooine Traders - can you sense we are Star Wars fans here?
Magic of Animation
Great Movie Ride

ANIMAL SUB-BRACKET

(16) Harambe Village Area - OK, I like the safari, too, but just to play devil's advocate, take the side of the underdog and all: there's no bouncing or waiting in line for the Village Area. Plus you can get a frozen lemonade! Seriously, though, I love the distinctly African Village atmosphere it evokes even when filled mostly with American tourists.

(9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Conservation Station & Habitat Habit (my kids ADORE Pipa, the talking recycling bin. We have gone to Animal Kingdom just for the sake of seeing that cool guy)

(4) Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade - I dislike a parade as much as the next curmudgeon, but this one really does kind of rock. Props for very cool puppets. (OR is that Very Cool Puppets for props???)

(5) Kali River Rapids (though my youngest says it is "too splashy," I kind of like "too splashy"

(2) Finding Nemo – The Musical - wow, a puppets on puppets smackdown! I give the edge to Nemo on account of air conditioning.
(7) Discovery Island Trails - I love these trails more than almost anything else in the whole park. Partly, because so few people seem to use them, they almost can feel like a private tour of the Tree of Life and the animals around it.

(3) Dinosaur! - is the Cretaceous Trail really an attraction?
(6) Primeval Whirl in spite of the one time my DH was wearing a hat on this ride - never again...the hat went flying off and could not be recovered. :o

KINGDOM SUB-BRACKET

(1) Expedition Everest - Oh man, the poor tea place never stood a chance.
(9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Wildlife Express Train- as a mom, I have no love in my heart for the boneyard.

(4) It’s Tough to be a Bug (note: Tree of Life is separate entry)
(5) Pangani Forest Exploration Trail - much as I am a fan of DeVine - very cool stuff - the scope of the Pangani just can not be denied. The bridge. Naked Mole Rats. Gorillas. The underwater view of the hippo tank. Very cool.

(2) Festival of the Lion King - This one's for you, Tumble Monkeys!
(7) Tree of Life (the structure and surrounding area not the movie)

(3) Maharajah Jungle Trek
(6) Flights of Wonder

HOLLYWOOD SUB-BRACKET

(1) Twilight Zone® Tower of Terror - my 4 year old's favorite, FAVORITE ride. He actually doesn't scream!
(9) Pixar Meet & Greets (Monsters Inc., Cars & Al’s Toy Barn) Haven't done a lot of these, though we had a nice photo session with Mike Wazowski one time. The cars are pretty cool too. But the reality of it is that we just weren't that into the Playhouse show. Sad but true.

(4) Beauty & the Beast Show The arcade is so NOISY. Plus, the costume changes for B&TB- can you even imagine?

(5) Voyage of the Little Mermaid - We are Ariel fans and Narnia fans, but the Ariel show, as an attraction is, at least, a show and not a glorified movie trailer for something that has or hasn't come out yet.

(2) MuppetVision 3D - Sorry Troy and Gabriella. You can't actually compare with Kermit and Miss Piggy as far as timeless non-physical romances go.

(10) Jedi Training Academy

(3) Toy Story Midway Mania
(6) Studios Backlot Tour At least there are visuals all the way through.

STUDIOS SUB-BRACKET

(8) One Man’s Dream: The Walt Disney Story

ANIMAL SUB-BRACKET

(1) Kilimanjaro Safari: the park's signature attraction
(9) RPW: Conservation Station & Habitat Habit -- Oasis is nice but we always seem to rush through, both coming and going.

(4) Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade -- Only seen a portion of it once, but I don't think we've ever seen the acrobats
(5) Kali River Rapids -- Never seen either one, but Kali sounds interesting

(2) Finding Nemo – The Musical -- Currently best live show at WDW
(7) Discovery Island Trails -- the "best kept secret" of AK!

(3) Dinosaur! -- Yes, Cretaceous Trail IS an attraction. See http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=CretaceousTrailAttractionPage for minimal info. I think it's a small collection of displays/signs near Dinosaur! It's not listed on park maps, at least not in 2007.
(6) Primeval Whirl -- Never did see Pocohantas, and now it's gone (or nearly so)

KINGDOM SUB-BRACKET

(1) Expedition Everest -- never met a Disney coaster I didn't like, and this is one of the best!
(8) Dinoland USA Boneyard -- close call, but Boneyard is the best playground in WDW, which outweighs the uniqueness of the sideways train

(4) It’s Tough to be a Bug
(12) DiVine -- on basis of uniqueness and imagination.

(2) Festival of the Lion King -- second best live show in WDW, and not far behind Nemo
(7) Tree of Life -- an excellent choice and implementation of Park Icon

(3) Maharajah Jungle Trek
(6) Flights of Wonder -- haven't actually seen it yet but have heard good things about it.

HOLLYWOOD SUB-BRACKET

(1) Twilight Zone® Tower of Terror
(9) Pixar Meet & Greets (Monsters Inc., Cars & Al’s Toy Barn)

(4) Beauty & the Beast Show
(5) Voyage of the Little Mermaid

(2) MuppetVision 3D -- saw the Pep Rally at Disneyland; OK show but no competition for Muppets
(10) Jedi Training Academy -- also saw this first at DL, and WDW version last year --- too cool!

(3) Toy Story Midway Mania -- haven't seen it yet but the "Buzz" is too good to ignore
(6) Studios Backlot Tour

STUDIOS SUB-BRACKET

(1) Fantasmic
(8) One Man’s Dream: The Walt Disney Story
The Streetmosphere people can't keep their hands off me (I've been drafted twice!), but One Man’s Dream is a must see. Originally intended as a temporary exhibit, it has apparently become permanent by popular demand.

(4) Star Tours
(12) Four for a Dollar: the best preshow in WDW -- I've seen people come to hear them, then leave before B&B starts!

(2) Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith -- by far the most intense thrill ride at WDW. My first time, I got in line, then chickened out, then got back in line, and loved it!
(10) Streets of America Area

(3) The Great Movie Ride -- this park's signature attraction
(6) Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular -- you hear a lot of regulars complaining that it should be replaced, but it is really well-done, and very enjoyable if you don't see it too often. I like it better than LMA.

Here's my votes ... this is so much fun!

ANIMAL SUB-BRACKET

(1) Kilimanjaro Safari - the Harambe village is cool, but the Safari has lions
(9) RPW: Conservation Station & Habitat Habit - the Oasis Area is pretty cool, there's a train ride to RPW, plus they have those cool little rooms where you can listen to the sounds of the jungle in the dark - or take a nap while your family listens ... lol

(4) Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade - honestly I haven't seen either of these, but my friend says this is one of the best parades at WDW, so I'm going with it.
(5) Kali River Rapids - hands down on this one, after all I keep reading that AK is the hottest park in WDW, who wouldn't need a cool down?

(2) Finding Nemo – The Musical - only for the AC of course because it was closed when I tried to see it last time
(7) Discovery Island Trails - I am all good with checking out the characters, but since we don't have a need to have pics taken, I'll go with this one, even though I haven't been (it's on my list for next month tho)

(3) Dinosaur! (f/k/a Countdown to Extinction) - because we took a great pic on our first ride ever. DH is screaming and I am cowering down beside him, it was hilarious!
(6) Primeval Whirl - even though DH hates this one and won't go on it ...

KINGDOM SUB-BRACKET

(1) Expedition Everest - A Yeti will win over tea time everytime
(9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Wildlife Express Train - it's nice relaxing ride with little wait, the boneyard might win if we had kids that needed to blow off steam

(4) It’s Tough to be a Bug (note: Tree of Life is separate entry) - because it freaks people out!
(5) Pangani Forest Exploration Trail - Divine is really cool, but I give the nod to the PFE because have yet to see her

(2) Festival of the Lion King - I do love the steel drums, but FOTLK looks awesome
(7) Tree of Life (the structure and surrounding area not the movie) - it's an icon for the park and a beautiful structure at that

(3) Maharajah Jungle Trek - tigers are cool and I am spending way too much money already to vote for more stores!
(6) Flights of Wonder - I haven't seen FOW, but I was disappointed by the affection section at RFP.

HOLLYWOOD SUB-BRACKET

(1) Twilight Zone® Tower of Terror - hands down
(9) Pixar Meet & Greets (Monsters Inc., Cars & Al’s Toy Barn)

(4) Beauty & the Beast Show - I am not down with spending time in an arcade when I am at WDW, there's too much other stuff to see/do to waste time in there
(5) Voyage of the Little Mermaid

(2) MuppetVision 3D - it's a classic!
(10) Jedi Training Academy - who doesn't want to be a Jedi?

(3) Toy Story Midway Mania
(6) Studios Backlot Tour

STUDIOS SUB-BRACKET

(1) Fantasmic - even though as has been discussed it's not as great as DL's
(8) One Man’s Dream: The Walt Disney Story

(4) Star Tours
(5) Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show - this one is for DH

(2) Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith - rides over shops any day and this is an awesome one!

ANIMAL SUB-BRACKET

(1) Kilimanjaro Safari literally runs over the (16) Harambe Village Area!

(9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Conservation Station & Habitat Habit Wins against the (8) Oasis Area on the merit that its name is really long and sounds really important.

(4) Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade topples the pyramid of (13) Karuka, Kenyan Acrobats

(12) Smear, Splat & Dip are washed away by the (5) Kali River Rapids

(2) Finding Nemo – The Musical outperforms (15) Wes Palm (talking robotic palm tree by entrance)

(10) Camp Minnie-Mickey Character Greeting Trails walks all over (7) Discovery Island Trails

(6) Primeval Whirl outlasts (11) Pocohantas after she decided to leave and take her forest friends with her in the middle of the third quarter.

KINGDOM SUB-BRACKET

(7) Tree of Life stuns the (10) Triceratops Spin with its intricate menagerie of carvings.

HOLLYWOOD SUB-BRACKET

(1) Twilight Zone® Tower of Terror drains the (16) Echo Lakers of their will to live.

I have to say, I was a little baffled by many of these match-ups. It doesn't seem fair that a standing structure (such as streets of america) would be paired with a ride instead of another standing structure (like the earful tower). Kinda doesn't even give em a chance. same with shops? I want an investigation!:reporter:

Commentary will primarily be in my recaps (hey, Silly, pithy one liners in the first round are my gig! :) ), but here are my picks:

In the Animal Bracket

(1) Kilimanjaro Safari – the Harambe village is a nice place to walk through, but KS is a nice place to ride through
(8) Oasis – we rarely venture out to RPW and we need to spend more time in the Oasis, so peaceful

(4) Jammin’ Jungle Parade – my biggest problem with the parade is when it is held. We’re not in AK that often at 4 PM, but it still has some unique floats
(5) Kali River Rapids – the queue makes this. TTM rarely wants to get wet so we haven’t ridden it a lot lately (we rode it when it was known as the Tiger(less) River Rapids).

(2) Finding Nemo – great show
(7) Discovery Island – not a big fan of waiting for autographs but our twins are too young to ask.

(3) Dinosaur! – Indy in Disneyland is far superior, but it warrants its seed.
(6) Primeval Whirl – always laughing on this one. Pocahontas is deservedly on her way out.

Kingdom Bracket

(1) Expedition Everest – duh!
(9) Wildlife Express Train – a nice ride and never ventured into the playground

(4) It’s Tough to be a Bug – haven’t played at Chester & Hester. Love some of the oneliners from the announcer in this one. The bee sting can hurt though!
(5) Pangani – underrated trail. Divine’s cool, but only for about 5 minutes.

(2) Festival of the Lion King – good show, just hate the location
(7) Tree of Life – fascinating. Need to spend more time there.

(3) Maharajah Jungle Trek – might have been a 2 seed if the tigers weren’t always sleeping under the sill of the viewing window
(6) Flights of Wonder – I always love a good bird show. The shtick can be annoying, but it’s better than a petting zo

Hollywood Bracket

(1) Tower of Terror – I won’t even dignify poor Echo Lake with a comment here.
(8) Playhouse Disney Live – our twins LOVE Mickey Mouse Clubhouse so this is for them!

(4) Beauty & the Beast – costumes are amazing in this one.
(5) Voyage of the Little Mermaid – a classic movie beats out a cheesy one any day of the week. Love the blacklight and the puppets.

(2) Muppet Vision 3D – wokka wokka
(7) Block Party Bash – haven’t seen it, but I am sure it will amuse me more than the Jedi Training Academy

(3) Toy Story Mania – again, we’ll experience this for first time in October, but I am expecting to be wowed. MST is way too loud.
(6) Studios Backlot Tour – this used to be good, then it was OK and now it is bad. However, I HATE Sounds Dangerous. Plus, one time we got picked for the preshow and that was kind of cool.

Studios Bracket

(1) Fantasmic – I am saddened by the loss of Villains in Vogue because I genuinely like this store, but Come On, it’s Fantasmic!
(9) Streetmosphere – I see a lot of Streethaters out there, but I’ve always been amused. My wife and I still say “I support Mustard for Mongrels” based on a bit we saw there

(13) Earful Tower – I think this is my first upset. What a bore! Star Tours makes me feel sick and needs an update. I enjoy the Tower and would rather have that as the icon than the Sorcerer’s Hat.
(5) Lights Motors Action – I may have voted for Four for a Dollar if I had seen more of them.

(2) RNRcoaster – great start and awesome ride
(7) Magic of Disney Animation – it was better when they actually had people working there, but still cool. Streets of America is only nice at Christmas.

(3) Great Movie Ride – it may need an update, but I still enjoy it and the “Play Set” is just ridiculously cheesy
(11) Indiana Jones – Not a fan of the hat. We don’t always “do” Indy, but it can be enjoyable.

Media Timeout!

Since Disney wasn't thoughtful enough to provide either exactly 16 or exactly 32 attractions per park, other items had to be included to fill out the brackets. Then everything was treated equally, i.e. seeded and put in brackets. Some of the "standing structures" are doing OK. Personally I think of the shops as cannon fodder, but feel free to vote for them.

In any case, since the selection committee is omnipotent :darthvade , I'm not sure who would investigate. :Paranoid:

33 votes cast so far. Thanks!

Voting in the first round NOW end at 12:00 noon EDT on FRIDAY. (revised at 10:39 AM Thursday to a new time)

Here's a short update:

Currently Fantasmic is pitching the only shutout, 33-0, over VIllains in Vogue. In the Dining tournament there were no shutouts. We'll see if it lasts. There are 5 games that are 32-1.

The closest matchup is in the 8-9 game in the Animal Kingdom Bracket, Oasis is up by one on RPW - Conservation Station/Habitat Habit.

Not a lot of upset bids thus far (excluding some of the 8-9 games). Though, #10 in the Hollywood Bracket - Jedi Training Academy - holds an 11 point lead on #7 Block Party Bash.

Two votes yesterday and quiet on the views leads me to believe, we've pretty much gotten what we'll get on this (34 votes - comparable to the 36 received in the dining toruney). I still think weekend voters are important, but no use dragging this out forever - gotta be able to adjust on the fly.

All of that being said, plus the re-emergence of real issues from Tony that will, I am sure, slow things down here. (However, I feel this is a nice distraction from real world issues and DVC annoyances, so it has a purpose.)

Therefore, I'm unilaterally bumping up the end time by a day and a half.

VOTING WILL NOW END AT 12 NOON EDT ON FRIDAY 8/15/08. Please tell your friends and neighbors - particularly all those Oasis and/or Conservation Station fans out there...Right - all two of you.

I hope I'm not too late..

ANIMAL SUB-BRACKET
(1) Kilimanjaro Safari - Just the off chance that I might actually see a lion moving is enough for the win.
(9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Conservation Station & Habitat Habit - An excellent napping spot in addition to watching vets in action. Besides, I have no idea what or where the Oasis area is :veryconfu
(4) Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade - I just love this parade!!!
(5) Kali River Rapids - I like the jugglers but love the rapids
(2) Finding Nemo – The Musical - Once again, I love them both but since Nemo has a permanent home with AC, it takes this round.
(7) Discovery Island Trails - Love wandering down the trails and have never been to Camp Minnie Mickey
(3) Dinosaur! (f/k/a Countdown to Extinction) - This isn't even a fair matchup. One of my faves!! Besides, Claire Huxtable is there!!
(11) Pocahontas & Her Forest Friends (R.I.P.) - Pocahontas and friends won't make me hurl. Easy choice.

KINGDOM SUB-BRACKET
(1) Expedition Everest - I'll drink some tea after my most excellent ride.
(9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Wildlife Express Train - Love the brief glimpse backstage.
(4) It’s Tough to be a Bug (note: Tree of Life is separate entry) - I could do without the poke in the butt but still love it.
(5) Pangani Forest Exploration Trail - Like DeVine but love the trails.
(2) Festival of the Lion King - A never-miss show for my group.
(7) Tree of Life (the structure and surrounding area not the movie) - Once again, lack of hurling wins the day.
(3) Maharajah Jungle Trek - See previous for my trail/trek views
(11) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Affection Section (Petting Zoo) - No great preference but like cute animal as long as they don't try to eat my shorts

HOLLYWOOD SUB-BRACKET
(1) Twilight Zone® Tower of Terror - Another "not even fair" matchup
(9) Pixar Meet & Greets (Monsters Inc., Cars & Al’s Toy Barn) - A Kermit the Frog sighting wins this for me.
(4) Beauty & the Beast Show - Great show and, while I love PPs food, not so much on the arcade.
(5) Voyage of the Little Mermaid - Because of Narnia, I am no longer allowed to pick attractions without a high level of whining despite the fact that the Little Mermaid always give me hypothermia.
(2) MuppetVision 3D - All Muppets, all the time :cheerlead
(7) Block Party Bash - I haven't seen the one in FL yet but the Jedi training loses a point for only picking children. My adult friend was crushed.
(3) Toy Story Midway Mania - Haven't been on this either (T-4 days and counting) but it looks great.
(6) Studios Backlot Tour - This was a close one. Sounds Dangerous is another prime nap spot and the Backlot tour hasn't changed in a decade. Backlot gets the nod for the chance of seeing the designers at work if you go during work hours.

STUDIOS SUB-BRACKET
(1) Fantasmic - Although the sweets shop is one of the few places on this planet where I can get a caramel apple with no nuts, I love Fantasmic:cheerlead
(8) One Man’s Dream: The Walt Disney Story - I never miss visiting this much the occasional annoyance of my family. Love the models of the park icons and the movie
(4) Star Tours - A ride vs. a tower (even with the ears)? No contest.
(5) Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show - Only wins on days when the metal bleachers won't fry my posterior. The person who picked those metal bleachers should be forced to sit on a frying pan for 45 minutes.
(2) Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith - Lame store vs. cool ride. Easy choice
(7) Magic of Disney Animation - I loved this before the changes over the past couple of years but they got me back with the drawing class.
(3) The Great Movie Ride - Yes this is the same ride as when the park opened but you would have to pay me to go to the HISTK playground
(6) Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular - Not a pin trader. The only thing the hat does for me is provide cool pics, block my view of the chinese theater and provide shelter during rainstorms. Watching stuff blow up in a controlled environment is much more fun!!

I had to think, think, think on this one until I felt a rumbly in my tumbly. I predict that the Teams with the big-budget programs will considerably better than the teams with smaller departments, but there is a lot to think about here.

ANIMAL SUB-BRACKET

(1) Kilimanjaro Safari vs. (16) Harambe Village Area
*They built the village around the safari trade, not the other way around. Poachers beware of the agility of "Little Red!"

(8) Oasis Area vs. (9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Conservation Station & Habitat Habit
*Green is in this year, and if you don't like green, then lots of Mandrill colors will do!

(4) Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade vs. (13) Karuka, Kenyan Acrobats
*The first true upset goes to the team that CAN jump! Proximity to the bar doesn't hurt either.

(5) Kali River Rapids vs. (12) Smear, Splat & Dip (comedic juggling painters in Dinoland)
*Water rides rule the day over variety entertainers.

(2) Finding Nemo – The Musical vs. (15) Wes Palm (talking robotic palm tree by entrance)
*One can't argue with a freakin' huge Pelican! OK, the palm tree did, and a bunch of seagulls went for the ball, all shouting "Mine!" Wes got in the way, and kinda ended up "whitewashed" in this matchup.

(7) Discovery Island Trails vs. (10) Camp Minnie-Mickey Character Greeting Trails
*If it were only the Fab 5/Sensational 6, the bench couldn't stand up to the three-toed sloth near the entrance. However, we're talkin' bout BRER RABBIT and a whole bunch of other people, er characters, filling the bench to make a killer lineup!

(3) Dinosaur! (f/k/a Countdown to Extinction) vs. (14) Cretaceous Trail
*Why look at statues of dinosaurs when you can bring one home? This also wins my award for "Best Pre-show Movie Ever."

(6) Primeval Whirl vs. (11) Pocahontas & Her Forest Friends (R.I.P.)
*All the Colors in the Wind pale to being able to "taste the rainbow" after riding this ride. Team Miko didn't have a chance as morale all but disappeared mid-season with the announcement that this would be the last run at the title for Pocahantas.

KINGDOM SUB-BRACKET

(1) Expedition Everest vs. (16) Royal Anandupur Tea Co.
*The Tea Company could only win if Joe Rhode himself served the tea on the finest china and the Yeti would still stomp the entire party into near-submission. Then again, there's that Dragonball Kaiju looking tea lady...but the Yeti would still thrash her!

(8) Dinoland USA Boneyard vs. (9) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Wildlife Express Train
*LOVE the boneyard, but you never bet against the train!

(4) It’s Tough to be a Bug (note: Tree of Life is separate entry) vs. (13) Chester & Hester Carnival Games
*With somebody named HOPPER on your team, how can you go wrong?

(5) Pangani Forest Exploration Trail vs. (12) DiVine (the person dressed like a plant)
*This may be the only vote I make where star power outshines team play, and carries a seed a few rounds on individual effort. I could watch this for hours...or at least a very long time. (P.S.--do not confuse this type of "star power" with the type that took Maynard off the DL roster. This is a different animal...er, plant...althogether.)

(2) Festival of the Lion King vs. (15) Tropicals – Steel Drum Band
*FOTLK is THE "big cat" of all of the shows, and may even do very well against some marquis teams that rely upon transportation to carry the day.

(7) Tree of Life (the structure and surrounding area not the movie) vs. (10) Triceratops Spin
*The only way TS could win against TOL is if every team from the "Hub and Spoke" league were to gang up against TOL and do the Speed Racer Buzz Saw thing. Since Aladdin's spitting camels get in the way and "One Fish Two Fish" is currently banned from the park due to licensing disagreements, TOL stands tall with the victory.

(3) Maharajah Jungle Trek vs. (14) Discovery Island Shops (Beastly Bazaar, Creature Comforts & Island Mercantile)
*Don't mess with the Tigers! This pick was clearly just to "give the people more of what they wanted" by way of more gift shops in the league.

(6) Flights of Wonder vs. (11) Rafiki’s PlanetWatch: Affection Section (Petting Zoo)

HOLLYWOOD SUB-BRACKET

(1) Twilight Zone® Tower of Terror vs.(16) Echo Lake Area (Min & Bill’s, Dinosaur Gertie)
*No contest with TOT . It combines the best of all worlds and beats a big concrete and fibergalass dinosaur that breathes smoke. (Not to say that Gertie isn’t cool, but TOT is uber-cool!)

(8) Playhouse Disney Live! vs. (9) Pixar Meet & Greets (Monsters Inc., Cars & Al’s Toy Barn)
*DD voted for this one. It is one of the few attractions she listed as wanting to see by name in between our last two trips.

(4) Beauty & the Beast Show vs. (13) Pizza Planet Arcade
*The arcade has to carry the restaurant, so it is far too slow on the court. I don’t anticipate the show to be going anywhere else in the tournament, but it does get the points for experience of being the longest-running DHS show.

(5) Voyage of the Little Mermaid vs. (12) Journey Into Narnia
*Fins up! Ariel rocks! And Narnia…well, I never was crazy about the books, either.

(2) MuppetVision 3D vs. (15) High School Musical Pep Rally
*One features muppets, the other characters who are dressed like characters from the movie, but aren’t named for either the actors or the characters. What time is it? Time to go see Muppetvision 3D!

(7) Block Party Bash vs. (10) Jedi Training Academy
*DD had an influence here. BPB is our “meeting place” during EMH because DD will stay here for literally hours while we trade off on thrill rides, etc.

(3) Toy Story Midway Mania vs. (14) Mulch Sweat & Shears (rock group landscapers)
*Only going on reputation here.

(6) Studios Backlot Tour vs. (11) Sounds Dangerous
*Both need an overhaul. SD needs the return of Martin Short and Chevy Chase.

STUDIOS SUB-BRACKET

(1) Fantasmic vs. (16) Villains in Vogue/Sweet Spells Shop
*UPSET DUE TO LACK OF COURT TIME BY FANTASMIC AND RESULTING FAN UNREST. HOW DID THE VILLAINS WIN THIS? HELLO…BAD GUYS!

(8) One Man’s Dream: The Walt Disney Story vs. (9) Streetmosphere Characters (including Rosie – checkout studioscentral.com for more)
*I can’t ignore one of the few places to actually see a magician in the Magic Kingdom. Jack Diamond Rocks!

(4) Star Tours vs. (13) The Earful Tower (water tower with ears)
*They really need to train that pilot and make sure that they save the program, though…

(5) Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show vs. (12) Four for a Dollar (a capella Beauty & the Beast pre-show)
*Normally I don’t like these, but this show is hard to ignore. I like two-bit acapella singers (Literally four for a dollar=25 cents=two bits) BUT THIS HAS HERBIE!

(2) Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith vs. (15) Tatooine Traders (Star Wars store)
*If Darth Vader were still in TT…RNRC would still kick butt!

(7) Magic of Disney Animation vs. (10) Streets of America Area*Another fan protest vote. I was there on the day that the animators were cleaning out their desks and vacating the building. DW made me promise to not ask “embarrassing questions.”

(3) The Great Movie Ride vs. (14) Honey I Shrunk the Audience Adventure Play Area
*That thing is still open? (Joke from the AC one night.) Plus, I miss the big sniffing dog nose in HISTK.

(6) Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular vs. (11) The Big Sorcerer’s Hat
*I’d rather see a big Indiana Jones Hat than the Big Stupid Sorcerer’s Hat, or at least BSSH in a location other than what was once a perfect view of the Chinese Theatre. And making a huge icon to house NOTHING BUT A PIN SHOP…what’s up with that?

Sorry so late on this one...it has been a tiring week!

Chris

Sorry I missed one:

Flights of Wonder
*I'm no fan of animal shows, but I'm less of a fan of petting zoos.

Two more votes!:woohoodan Thanks!

Of course, now we have a tie in the Oasis-Conservation Station matchup. As advertised, this will go to automatic 2 hour extension to 2 PM if it remains tied, then the tiebreaker will be votes by the Selection Committee (me, AFMom and EriktheWise)

FYI hylyntunstl - more info on the oasis can be found here: http://allears.net/tp/ak/ak_oas.htm

I figured there'd be ties in this one. Awesome. Go Rafiki! Too bad whoever wins has to go up against the Safari, so I guess it really matters little in the long run. . .

Dirk, I've taken this information and translated it into a statistic for the trendwatch guys at WDW by changing your name to "The Public." You'll have plenty of new places to find pins as "the public wants more pin sales locations." Expect to see all of the Boardwalk area converted into a pin purchase/trading station by your next visit, with expansion pin locations to replace Summit Plummet and the Hoop De Doo Revue.

And, of course, the IJ Stunt Show Arena will also be a pin location.

Chris

P.S.--Please don't forward this to any of the Dizpins people, as they may actually run with it. I'm a recovering Pinhead myself and know the overpowering nature of "chasing the cloisone dragon."

:holymoly: Don't put words into my mouth!! All I said was I wanted new pins at the SAME location!!

But don't you think that would be so much fun?!

I don't buy that much anymore ( :ROTFL: ) . Just the few special editions that interest me, or a certain theme (like monorails, resorts I've stayed in, etc.)
