We just returned from a fantastic cruise to the Mexican Riviera aboard the Disney Magic. We had the opportunity to attend two separate hour long question & answer sessions with a respresentative from Imagineering.

Some tidbits:

1. Most of the Imagineering resources are being diverted to upgrading Disney California Adventure over the next couple of years. He admitted that the original DCA was rushed and many mistakes in judgement were made in the final design of the park. Theming of the new attractions and the park will be re-done to more closely reflect their original vision.

2. DCA will have a Radiator Springs area from CARS. However, one of the attractions was described as being like the EPCOT Test Track attraction but "on steroids". At the end of the ride you will emerge racing other cars to the finish line.

3. DCA will unveil an Illuminations/Fantasmic type water show called World of Color. He described some of the new technology that will be required and said that it will be amazing. Although the show can be seen all around the Boardwalk, the prime viewing area will be across the lake from the Boardwalk. It will still be a standing viewing event however they will be re-constructing the current amphitheater areas to accommodate larger audiences.

4. Disney plans to unveil new The Little Mermaid ride in Anaheim and Tokyo Sea. He did not describe the ride but said that everyone will be very pleased with the theming and design of the ride.

5. He did address the rumors about Soaring. Although he admits that there has been discussions, he does not see any changes, additions or updates to DCA, EPCOT or any other park in the near future. He did not want to elaborate why.

6. Disney did reach an agreement with George Lucas to refurbish Star Tours.

7. He discussed the technology behind Turtle Talk with Crush and emphsized that they would like to see more interactive experiences for their Disney guests.

He touched on a lot of other topics but unfortunately I did not write them all down. All in all a great experience that I hope will continue on future cruises.

Cheers!!!

Thanks for the tidbits! I think the DCA makeover is absolutely essential, but I hope it doesn't result in the MK being short-changed for it's 40th anniversary celebrations.

I wonder if the Little Mermaid ride is going to be the one described on the special edition DVD!

Thanks for the info! I'd love to see Soarin' coming to DLP :hyper:

Personally, I liked DCA when we went there back in 2005 - but I realize I'm in the minority there. I only hope Imagineering still devotes some ressources to improving WDW... :fingerscr
