Here's a link to an Orange County Register tour of Walt's apartment over the firehouse at Disneyland. It's really cool, with pictures of collectibles and extended commentary. Walt apparently was a big fan of Grilled Cheese sandwiches. MMmmmm.

I was fortunate enough to visit Walt's apartment on December 27, 2005. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, there was a live action for a visit to Walt's Apartment for up to 12 people. A friend wanted to win this auction, so he got in touch with several people to contribute funds. Our host for the breakfast experience was Ron Dominguez.

It was an overwhelming experience. We walked around like it was a sacred temple. When we went out to breakfast we were told to just leave our "stuff" in the living room. We were like, "We can do that? Just leave it sitting here?"

After breakfast Ron spoke for about an hour, telling us his experiences on opening day (he was a ticket taker), to the present day (and how Walt would have felt about DCA :thumbsway).

The experience was climaxed by a visit from Mickey himself. When Mickey came into the room, I lost it. I started crying. Our Event Services Coordinator (who I knew from several other events) came up to me and asked if I was OK. I told her it was just out of happiness.

We were not allowed to photograph inside the apartment, but we were allowed to take pictures on the patio. Here's a group shot from the patio.

And here's a shot looking down on Main Street USA.

Better than that, I used the bathroom in the apartment. I joke that I sat where Walt sat.

Wow, how envious I am, Ghost, what an incredible experience and what a wonderful story to tell. I dream of one day just getting to go to DL, where it all started.
