Future Fields of 64 & Selection Committee Recruitment

As previously advertised, I plan on doing more inclusive Field of 64’s. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. The upcoming FO64’s are expected to be (roughly in this order):


The Attractions of the Magic Kingdom
The Attractions of Epcot
The Attractions of Hollywood Studios
The Attractions of Animal Kingdom (may have to be combined with DHS above to get to 64 entrants, this is TBD)
The Rest of Walt Disney World (think about the Resorts, Downtown Disney, Transportation, Waterparks, etc.)
Disney Characters (this may have to be a field of 128!)
Disney Movies


Well, I’ve always known I am not infallible, but quibbling (thanks Leftcoaster!) with the field and the seedings in the first and still ongoing FO64 regarding dining (found here: http://www.mouseowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16510) has led me to conclude it may make sense to involve others. So, here is my plan, if anyone is so interested:

For each future FO64 I will try to have a 3-person selection committee (a la the hitch-hiking ghosts). It need not always be the same, though, I will always be the chairman. How I typically work it is I come up with a list of 72 items (if I can – sometimes this proves difficult). I then assign each item a grade of A, B, C, D or F. There are 16 each of A – D and 8 F’s. The A group is the 1-4 seeds, B is 5 -8, C is 9 – 12 and D is 13 – 16. I will involve 2 others in this process and take their comments and rankings into consideration. Rankings are intended to be objective rather than personal. The Committee members can and I expect will participate and won’t always pick the higher seed (you can see my own selections in the dining FO64 for evidence of that).

Please let me know (via post or PM) if you have any interest, and, if so, which planned FO64’s interest you and in what order. If this is a stupid idea, let me know that, too.

I don't know if I'd be very good on the selection committee, but if you ever come down to needing a backup, I'll be there :)

Another cool idea, you could take the final 4 from each of the parks and have some kind of super-duper cross-divisional playoff.

I'm willing to be on selection committee for any of 1-4. Suggest having a mini-tournament of 32 for resorts only.

That had actually occurred to me in a slightly expanded form, that is take the Sweet 16 for each of the four parks.

"Even Grumpy from Snow White's Scary Adventures could not fend off the over-the-top cheerfulness of "it's a small world" despite the fact that he secretly sneaked a few softballs onto the ride with him to get in a few 'free shots'. Afterwards (while being hauled away by Disney security) Grumpy could be heard screaming something about needing more softballs."

Just so you know - no qualifications are needed here other than about 15 minutes of your time give or take. I need sanity checks (other than TikiTwinsMom of course) on seeding. :) The way things are playing out in the dining one, looks like I'm not TOO insane. No need to be witty (I appreciate the sentiment, though).

After discussions with a few folks (to be named), it seemed that it made sense to do the Theme Park Fields in reverse order of popularity:

1. AK-DHS (combined)
2. Epcot
3. MK

Then, the "superbracket" of all attractions at all parks. The AK & DHS bracket will actually be 2 fields of 32 that will compete for a single Final 4. The sweet 16 from each half of that combined AK-DHS bracket, as well as the Epcot bracket and MK brackets will compete in the superbracket.

I think this will better build up the anticipation and fun (Yes, I put entirely too much thought into this!)

Thanks, Ronald. Resort-based tourney is in the works (for after the theme parks as long as people don't get too sick of them). I'd gladly put you on the list to help with that for the future. I think it can it's own tourney or part of "beyond the parks" depending on how it's organized. Probably need to brainstorm. But, one at a time - at least going on - I think makes sense for now.
