Hello all

Can you please give me your honest opinion of the Segway tour. I also have a question. One of my sons will be 2.5 weeks short of his 16th bday, they say that ID is required to participate. How strict are they? I really want to try this tour & would hate to get there and have him not be able to do it. I called Disney a couple times and both times they encouraged me to 'try it'. Any of you have teenagers that have done it? What forms of ID are needed & do they actually check?

I can't speak to the age thing, but they also state that you can't weigh more than 250 lbs. I know someone that was well over 250 lbs. and they did the tour more than once and were never once asked about their weight.

I don't remember them checking IDs, but we're both well over 16. I do recall someone saying that the rules they follow are set by Segway, not WDW. It's a bummer that your ds is so close, but I don't think I'd try it. It would be awful to show up and not be able to go.

I would imagine it's an insurance thing. I just don't think that's something they could be lenient on, even though 2.5 weeks would not make a differnce. :( :(

They didn't check our IDs, but no one in our group looked 16.

There are two different Segway tours. Thw one that goes around the World Showcase is awesome.

You can read about it here:

They also offer an hour-long tour in a much more confined space that doesn't look nearly as thrilling.

Whether your child is 16 or nearly 16, he is still under the age of consent so you will be signing for him as a parent.

Does his school ID state his age? If not, then I would have him bring his student ID and then you as his parent would have to 'consent' and 'attest' to his age. I think they could ask for an ID, so as long as he has one that identifies him without giving his age, then you as his 'rents would affirm or confirm his age to Disney. So it depends on how you decide to handle the moral dilemma. (I'm pretty sure I'd say he was of age and feel little if any guilt, but different strokes and all that. )

The Segway tour is really great - we've taken it twice. Both times, they actually took our driver's licenses and then gave them back. We look nothing near 16!! However, do 16 y.o necessarily have ID? If SC didn't allow a 16 y.o. to drive, I wouldn't have had one when I was in High School. It would be a parent's word. I don't advocate lying - but hey, if they don't ask? It would be a risk, and you might not get a refund if they refused admission.

As for the tours themselves, I would only take the 2 hour tour that includes the World Showcase. The 1 hour is just training and about 5 minutes orbiting the building. It's like eating one M&M. Not gonna happen!
