View Full Version : How often have you & will you stay 7 NIGHTS OR FEWER in a DVC resort

With all the hubub about the new changes, and UNofficial quotes fron DVC that "70%" of its members book trips of 7 days or fewer and further allegations that (shockingly) DVC may not be truthful, I thought we could take an unscientific poll to test that.
Think about the trips you have booked in the past and ones you have planned for the near future. Putting aside the rule change (for just a minute - I know it is hard), on how what percentage of your trips did/do you plan on staying at DVC for 7 NIGHTS OR FEWER.
Note: this is not a test of how long you stay, but rather, how often it was/is for 7 days or fewer. Thanks!

We currently have only a preliminary schedule of the trips we plan on taking in next 2 - 3 years, but only one or 2 is potentially longer. I think we'll be mostly booking for 8 days (7 nights).
The titel of this post is set up backward with the poll. I think you can change the title of the post. The title of the poll agrees with the choices... but the title of the post does not.

I voted 12.5%... but that was a last minute fling while we were down in FL for a biz trip. We never plan trips for less than a week.
- We generally plan for 12 nights if using points + an arrival date (13 nights total)
- We generally stay for 14 nights if we get favorable II exchanges into DVC

My DH is an ogre when it comes to rationing points. We will NEVER be able to stay a weekend night at DVC - so we tend to only do 5 night trips.
On our very first trip there - I hadn't enlightened him as much about weekend points - and we did manage a 7 night trip. I doubt it will ever happen again!

I'm not sure how to fix this. Tried poking around - but can't see where I can edit title of a thread. Admins can, though.

I voted 7 out of 8 to be fair. Honestly, I can't invision doing ny longer than 5-6 nights. WDW just doesn't do it for us like it use to. Heck, next March when we are going to Disney we won't even do a conventional Disney park, we'll do Seaworld and Universal and then possibly a Disney water park. Depending on what I hear about to new Seaworld waterpark, we could do that.

I had to vote always less than 7 nights because we've never had 1 reservation run longer than 7 nights. Last fall, we had back to back 6 night ressies at VWL and BCV. Other trips, we've tended to do 3-4 nights at moderate resort on cash, and then 5 nights (guess which 5) at a DVC resort. Now that we've cycled through all the mods, I would stay exclusively on points (if I had enough) and my current holding would allow me to do 9-10 nights straight depending on season once I get out of borrowed status.

Coming from Phoenix we long ago decided 7nts 8 days is the SHORTEST trip we should take to WDW with airfares etc. I did pick the 12.5% because I hate to say never. I suspect if we try to stay at Grand Californian Villas every so often those will be 3-5 nt trips.
We last did 9 nts at SSR in late Nov/early Dec. 2006 and we are scheduled for 10nts for F&W 10/28/08 @BWV.
We would be willing to stay in two resorts to make our full 8-10 nts and that may be what we have to do if we want to stay in another resort besides home resort SSR.
I wonder if DVC is counting if people stay weekends in a studio (2nts) and the rest of their stay in a 1 bdrm (5nts) as 2 different reservations??

Our trips are always 2 weeks but only 5 days at a time at DVC so our stays are 5 days DVC away for the weekend and back to DVC for another 5 days. Every one of our DVC stays has been like this from 2001 till now and always will continue to be this way the only difference is the points used as our accomodation changed from studio to 1 bdrm and now 2 bdrm. Our weekends are spent at teh All Stars or Coronado or even off site at teh coast or like 06 on the cruise.

I tend to have one long trip every year or so, and lots and lots of short trips throughout the year at Disney parks

I know this is not polling science - and as Jim P points out - may only be thrown out to confuse people (though I think it can explain to a certain extent why DVC thinks the change is good) - but after 30 votes, the weighted average is 70.83% Just an interesting side note.

We live too far away from WDW to do lots of little trips. We go once a year for 10 to 11 days at a time.

We only have 210 points and with a family of 6 it would be hard to stay for that long anyway. That along wit the fact that we live only 60 miles form WDW makes it easier to stay for shorter periods. We also try and maximize our points so we try to never stay on a Friday or Saturday.

So it looks like DVC was correct with their assertion that the majority stay 7 days or less.

Actually current weighted average after 45 votes is 70% - which is exactly inline with the "quoted" numbers.
It's completely unscientific, but seems to definitely be much more than majority. This of course doesn't factor in those people who move around or pay cash some of the time, but interesting nonetheless.
Some say it doesn't matter, but I think it does...

Just a mathematical update - after 49 votes - we're still right around 70% (actualy 69.39%)
