View Full Version : Economic Stimulus Check
So, what did you do with yours?
Nothing exciting here, just put it towards paying off the Disney Visa.

But that's exactly what the intent of the checks is-to get people to spend money on "non-essentials" and stimulate the economy. Actually those economic stimulus checks really helped me out. I do taxes, and because lots of people who don't usually file came in to file this year (social security recipients) to get their economic stimulus check, my paycheck really increased! We bought a new stove with our check-a real treat because the old one still worked, it was just OLD (about 17 years old).

You must have been one of the early recipients, before the airfares shot up! Congrats.

And for all those folks buying large flat screens, what nation's economy are we ultimately stimulating?

Well, ours in the end. If you were watching CNBC about an hour ago instead of pretending to work :scratchch, there was a discussion of how US imports to Asian countries are increasing as Japan recovers and S Korea and China expand their middle class.
Plus, let's see, the retailer, the shipper, the trucking co...I'm pretty sure they're not doing their work for gratis.

WE WERE!
Got ours the first week and nabbed some nice nonstop airfares for a trip we were already planning on taking.

Guess I'm working too hard. :ROTFL: < the boss
True, any spending is better than no spending and there is an upside to a weak dollar. I guess I just wish I could have spent mine on something new, instead of cleaning up from last month.

How do you know what CNBC is if you just have rabbit ears?
You have a boss?!! Since your posting graph shows dramatic increases M-F 9-5, I assumed you were the boss! :) After all, doesn't your guide do your work for you?

I like my rabbit ears! And, yes, I've heard of CNBC, I just refuse to pay for it. BTW, I did get my two digital converter coupons and happily hooked up my $9 boxes from Target and lo-and-behold, I now have 14 stations! Granted three of them are 24/7 weather, 2 are in spanish, and 6 are religious, but hey, at least they're clear!

My guide posts for me. It's his graph. You need a new guide.

I will be stimulating Bonaire's ecomomy with that check. It went directly into the vacation savings account.

Ditto; we used our Disney Reward $ for our dining on our trip, does that count toward stimulating anything?

Ours is going into savings. We had to drain it to pay the IRS this year. First time owing, and man, did it stink.

Boy, I hear ya on that! I used to spend all day getting thousands of dollars back for people. Sometimes a couple's refund would be about 1/3 of their yearly income. One time, the first thing a woman said to me before we began was "If I don't like how much I'm getting back, can we just cancel this?" Meanwhile I'm thinking, "I'd just be so thrilled if I was getting ANYTHING back for a change!"
Yay, new stove gets delivered today!

We bought our first APs!!!! You know, because Disney needs more economic stimulation!

We put ours in the bank, and have been using bits and pieces of it - I bought a nice Mother's Day give for the DW, some money for 4th of July fun, and another good chunk of it to the credit card.
It was a boondoggle to begin with. They basically printed the money to give to us (or went deeper into debt... either way, BAD!). If $300 per person was good, then why not $1000 per? $2000 per? That'd really get the economy stimulated, wouldn't it? I really think they screwed the pooch on this one. Retail sales will see slight jumps, and then fall back down in the coming months.
I better stop, or I'll rant on about the Federal Reserve and Fedzilla (the US Gov't). ;)

I bought a DSLR and some other things of which I can't remember. Probably things like groceries, toiletries and other junk of that nature.

I thought you got your dSLR before the stimulus, so I was sure you were looking for more lenses instead! Hey, at least you spent it on stuff. Very patriotic!!

For me (and I suspect everyone else) it's a matter of interpretation. I could say I spend it on real estate taxes and life insurance (boring! :bored:) or I could say I spend it on Orlando airline tickets and final cruise payment.
The point is I had to do all of this anyway, so maybe I should say it went into savings (which it did). Didn't (yet) buy anything I wasn't going to buy anyway. But... summer isn't over yet!
