Has anyone dealt with TWA Resales? This in not in relation to DVC but another timeshare. Not to get into too detailed of a story but my parents owned a few timeshares. My mom passed away suddenly in Feb while they were on vacation. Well, skip a few months forward and now my dad is getting letters, emails etc from TWA resales offering to sell his timeshares. (I don't know how much thought he had put into selling the timeshares.) Well they of course want a payment upfront. For two reasons I say to run. First, I feel they are slime/vultures because obviously they are doing this because of my mom's death and also because they are wanting $ upfront. I checked the BBB & they don't have any info on this company. My feeling is to tell them for screw off (my words would be alot more colorful). Just wondering if anybody here knows of this company and what your experience may have been with them.

I told my dad if truly interested in selling to check out other companies or to rent for a year or two & then decide what he wants to do.
Thanks!

No (I repeat, NO) reputable TS resale company will ask you for $$ upfront. Reputable companies make their $$ on commission, not fees. Tell him not to proceed, please. There are plenty of good companies to deal with.

Check out TUG for further info about resale companies that specialize in certain types/brands of TSs.

Thanks, I pretty much have already said that to him. I had also printed a list from TUG with some companies names. I had been hoping the BBB would have had something (good or bad) regarding the company, but they had nothing. My dad hasn't acted on it but he did say they are pretty fast talking (even telling him one timeshares sale price would be a certain amount which would be twice what he paid for it resale & he doesn't believe them). My brother is checking into with w/someone too. My dad is a very intelligent man & I am sure will make the right decision. I just wanted to hurry him along to a "no" answer & to tell them to buzz off.

Even if they were a reputable company I still would want to him to tell them no just because of how they are are contacting him (due to a death). I hate those type of companies. For example, a tornado went thru here a few weeks ago. Hrs after the tornado went thru roofing/construction companies were in the neighborhood trying to snag business. Makes me sick. :hurl:

These companies will say anything to get you to give them money and then you never hear from them again.

They often sell the timeshares they get on ebay for $100 and then charge $500 for closing fees (the money is in those fees and the poor owner gets little of the $100.

If your dad has used the timeshares for a long time, he might know of an owner's board or web site for owners where he could post the weeks he didn't want. Or he could rent out his timeshares, or if he belongs to one of the II type exchanges, he could trade em all in for one family vacation a year...He may also decide to keep them even if he vacas alone for some of them.

Good luck to your dad...and hopefully he will tell the scalper sellers to get lost.
