Hi all! Thank you so much Tony for helping me find this. It was harder (for me) than figuring out what IMHO was! I bought the OKW extension and was promised whatever freebies they were giving out with it--a lighthouse of OKW was one I recall. Anyway, I purchased the extension in Jan. (for cash)and still have not received anything. In April my guide told me that they were back logged and to call back if I hadn't received anything by the end of June. Considering the fact that I don't think the extension was an unmitigated success, how backlogged could they be? Has anyone else extended and received the "free" gifts? Thank you! Mary

Hi Mary

I received a postcard a few weeks ago saying the "gifts " would be mailed out this summer sometime. I think it was a time-capsule and a lithograph.

Same as Mel - it was a letter promising them sometime this summer. I think there was something in it about making sure the quality of the items was up to their standards.
Maybe they got a bad batch of what ever they are sending.

Thank you all for the information. I did not receive the post card, but something that small could have been stuck in a magazine or whatever. DD starts college in the Fall and we have innundated with college brochures. Thanks again. Mary

Just as an FYI, I think the DVC gurus DID consider the extension to be a very good success. Supposedly there was about a 35% acceptance, and that was significantly higher than they expected. I might add, significantly higher than I believe!!!

My guide has a personal owner extention rate above that quoted, but agrees that 35% is accurate for AKV Owners as a whole.

Just listened to a podcast that had some exec from DVC and she stated no other extensions were planned and OKW was becasue it was the oldest resort. lame reason.

wonder if thats true? and if it is true, what does that say about the suscess of the extension. It would tend to imply it did not go as well as planned. like the extra land at VB which got sold due to poor selling at VB.

I was wondering if they would do extensions for the other resort. All but the last two have end dates of 2042 as OKW. This in itself seems odd to me, prior to SSR regardless of when built every resort had the same end date. I have been looking at resale for some of the older resorts but also in hopes that an extension would be offered at a later date if I purchased. For a bit more a point it may be worth having 15 more years.

Yes, and previous threads discussed how they doubt that a older resort with the 15 year extension would sell at resale for 15 per point more. More like 4 to 5 per point. so waiting my be worth it.

One of the more important, but least talked about aspects of the extension is how pre-2042 maintenance fees will be collected to build a post-2042 reserve fund. As far as I know, Disney hasn't given an official answer, or even mentioned it as an issue.

One poster on another board claims he complained to some sort of Florida timeshare commission and got Disney to promise to subsidize maintenance fees for non-extenders so they wouldn't have to pay for any post-2042 repairs. The fact that I haven't seen any reports or stories leads me to question if it ever happened. But if it did, it might explain why Disney isn't as excited about extending the other resorts.

good Point. Its was not the "easy money" they thought it would be.

It happened. In response to a complaint filed with the Florida Timeshare Bureau, the attorney for Disney, John McGowan, stated on the record that maintenance fees would be subsidized for non-extenders. I wrote to Jim Lewis requesting he make this information known to the full membership, as well as when and how it would be implemented. As of this date in time, no response has been received from Mr. Lewis. Maybe it will appear as a footnote in the next issue of Disney Files; however, they may not be anxious to share this tidbit of information. Hopefully, someone attending the annual meeting will bring this subject of unfinished business up to Mr. Lewis.
