First update, day two well under way:

Cast: Me (Sam) Wife (Becky) 16 yo daughter (Sarah) 13 yo son (Sammy) BIL (David)

My first time doing a trip report while actually still on a trip!

Let's see we left the Baltmore area at about 4:00 pm on 6/12 and our plan was to drive straight through to WDW only stopping to eat and get gas etc. We had no real traffic problems to speak of and we made exellent time. Only thing out of the ordinary was when we got about 50 miles from the South Carolina line. There were several car loads of teens driving in four cars and were making sport of blocking the travel lanes speeding up to about 75 then slowing to about 45 they did this all the way to South of the Border where they exited. I know they were probably bored and that was thier idea of fun, but as is usually the case with that sort of thing I'm sure they didn't realize how dangerous that can be. I was back in the pack too far to get any tag numbers to report to the authorities.

Anyway with that little setback behind us we made it to the Beach Club at 7:10 am and true to form for a Friday the 13th they had no rooms available yet. (we had on previous trips been very lucky and gotten in our rooms when we arrived that early) So finally about 3:30pm our two-bed room was ready! Believe me after 24 hours in our Suburban I was ready to get in our room!

We got un-packed and headed up to our room and again Friday the 13 got us! Only half our reservation was ready, the studio portion of our two-bed room was cleaned and mousekeeping had only just started on the one-bedroom! I called down to the front desk and the CM didn't have that room reserved for us! The desk had us checked into a studio! All 5 of us. Well, after about 5 mins on the phone they had it taken care of. Bell services dropped off all our stuff in the studio and about 30 mins later the other half of our room was ready. No biggie just had to lug most of my crap into the other rooms. I was somewhat surprised that they didn't even follow up with a call to see if everything was alright.

Finally by 4:30 or so it was WELCOME HOME!

Wife and I decided we are not going to gamble in the future we will leave home much later in the evening, to time our arrival at WDW to be closer to 2:00 pm.

The rooms were clean and everything was in working order and I like the BCV a lot. Being this close to EPCOT is great. We will be staying here again. We had nothing planned for this travel day aside from dinner at Biergarten. We were not as well rested for this as I would have liked but there is nothing like that good old German comfort food to get the vacation started (the beer didn't hurt either!)

So today, Saturday 6/14 is our first real day here; the travel day is always a wash out for us.

We started our day at the Magic Kingdom with breakast at The Crystal Place its a good way to kick off a WDW vacation. It's funny to watch some of the people who are in full on comando mode. There was this one young mother at breakfast who was really just a nuisance to everyone there. She didn't seem to think that the line to order from the omelette station or the orderly line at the buffet applied to her, I saw her recieve some serious stares from both CM's and guests alike.

Then she spent the next 45 mins or so dragging her husband and child around to the other tables trying to intercept the characters. I thought maybe she didn't speak English or understand the way character meals work but that wasn't the case because she was very close to our table at one point talking to her husband. She could not seem to understand why the characters were ignoring her and her child. On two seperate occasions I saw CM's try to explain things to her but she just never got it. My daughter was so entertained watching her that when the napkin parade started and she joined in with her child my daughter took her picture. She plans to feature her if she ever writes her book about how not to have fun in WDW.

The weather is awsome so far today and my brother in law finally got up the courage to go into the Haunted Mansion (no small feat, he has Down's Syndrome) We were all very proud of him. He said he liked it but doesn't want to go back again till our next trip. We saw the Cowboy Camp show that they do in Frontier Land with Woody and Jesse. That's always fun, its fun to see my kids 13 and 16 years old forget to be cool for a few minutes. (happens alot in WDW).

Then we saw the Country Bears Jamboree; I was shocked to find out that my son had never seen it because he thought it would be lame. Well, by the time it was over, he was singing along with me to Big Al's Blood on the saddle song. He now has a new appreciation for another one of what he likes to call, Dad's lame attractions.

After that my kids were tired of walking at the pace we keep with David (my BIL) so off they went for action while me and my wife and BIL rode the monorail around one complete circuit then to the Poly. There we got on the motor launch back to WDW, after all it was David's Magic Kingdom day and that's what he wanted to do.

We left the Magic Kingdom about 1:30 for a rest, the kids got back soon after and went for a swim. We took David out to get him some thing to eat about 5:00 and I took a break to type this while my wife is getting ready for our dinner at The Rose and Crown.

So far a great first day, I'll check back in when time permits to update if anyone is interested.

Isn't it great when the kids can go off on their own and do what they want at the speed they want it?
Sounds like you're having a blast.

Thanks for the report, I'll stay tuned for more! We had a 2bd at BCV and I checked in at 6am but the room didn't become available til after 5pm. Seems like sometimes the early bird waits the longest! Where is your 2bd located?

Enjoying the report greatly. We have always checked in early, and have never gotten into our room before 3:30. I keep trying though, I'm bound to get lucky eventually.

Well today we had just one park planned, Hollywood Studios. It was our first time being in the world when a Star Wars Weekend was happening. It's really neat the way they do the morning rope drop with the Stormtroopers over head on top of the turnstiles and on the roof-tops along Hollywood Blvd.

The park was pretty crowded due to the event. And just like half of the folks waiting to get in we made a B-line to Toy Story Mania to snag a Fast Pass and jump in line. We got our fast passes and were amongst the first in line to go in. But, the ride was experiencing problems and didn't open till about 11:00 am we found out later. We left the line after about 30 mins without riding.

We had breakfast at ABC Commissary, walked around looking at all the Star Wars characters. We got some good pictures of Peter Mayhew and David Prowse who were the guests this weekend. Then we got a good spot for the parade.

The parade is neat, its fun to see the Disney characters in their Star Wars costumes.

Overall though the park was too crowded. I have fully embraced the slower pace DVC ownership allows. When the parks get full my family and I usually leave, today we stuck it out mainly because we had a reservation at 50's Prime Time.

Just before dinner we used our Fast Passes and rode Toy Story Mania. We all liked it alot. We are fans of Buzz Light Year's Space Ranger Spin, however we all agreed this atraction is an order of magnitude better.

I love how seamlessly the projectiles are rendered from the gun to the screen. The 3D effect is spot on. Also being able to see your projectile rather then some invisible beam of light is very cool.

Dinner was good, the Dad's Lemonade was better, I had two :). Well we are having a great time so far and aside from a little rain this evening the weather has been great.

Oh, I called to see if The Wave in the contemporary had any reservations available, and to my surprise I got a seating later this week. I'll post my impressions of the place.

I almost forgot, Kmermaid we have a lock off room's 320 and 322, we have an ok vew of the high flying fireworks from Illuminations.

Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us. It sounds as if you guys are having a really fun time and that the weather is cooperating for the most part. What more can you ask for? And what a great way to spend Father's Day, with your family at Disney World. Hope the rest of your trip goes as smoothly as the the first part has so far.

My family will be going home for the first time in Jan 2009. I've enjoyed reading about your trip so far and am wondering how the Rose & Crown was?
Are you using the dining plan? We will be making our dining res. next month and my husband wants eat at the Rose & Crown, but I wasn't sure if the food was good. :yummy:
Thanks!

We switched over to Old Key West today we are in a two-bedroom on Miller's rd. room 2030. We really like the additional room OKW provides over the other two-bedrooms we have had at BCV and SSR. I like how there is a seperate laundry room (much more quiet) and over all I like the layout of the rooms a lot. We also have a very nice view from our balcony.

We didn't go to any parks today just moved and enjoyed the resort. My wife and I ate at Jiko tonight for the first time. We both really loved our meals. I got the pork tenderloin and my wife got the halibut. Service was great, food was great, all around a great night out.

We had a star sighting at dinner, Peter Mayhew who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films was having dinner at Jiko while we were there. I suppose it is natural for Chewie to stay at Animal Kingdom LOL.

kennieand tami asked how we liked Rose and Crown. We had a very nice dinner, I like Rose and Crown, my wife really likes the fish and chips I usually get the bangers and mash. Also the Guinness tastes better there for some reason. We have gone to Rose and Crown a few times and have liked it each time. If you have never been it's surely worth a try. Also if you go to dinner there try to plan it so you are done eating just before 9:00 pm, they have a reserved spot to watch Illuminations and the view is fantastic. Also we are using the DDP this trip.

I've enjoyed reading about your trip over the last few days. It makes me excited for ours in September. We stayed at SSR last year and were really impressed. Curious as to what section you are in? We we in the "Springs" and had a nice view of the pond. Also noticed that you mentioned you were vacationing with your BIL who has down syndrome. We are planning a third trip to WDW in May with my mother's cousin who also has down syndrome. Disney is her favorite place to vacation. Her favorite ride is Space Mountain if you can believe that (she's 66)! Look forward to hearing about the rest of your vacation!

We had so much fun yesterday I didn't have time to update. We started our day at DHS and had a great day after a little bit of a rough start. We have been using Tour Guide Mike on our last few trips and either the other parks were really crowded and Mike was right or he miscalculated on the crowd levels for this week. He had DHS as a first choice green day and the park filled very quickly. By 10:30 or so Toy Story had a stand by time of 80 mins, ToT was at 50 mins, RnR was 70 mins and that was the way it stayed right up until we left at about noon.

We spent the rest of the day at the pools at OKW. I visited the Gurgling Suitcase a few times. :)

We went back to DHS and used our fast passes we got in the morning.

(WARNING!!) If you ride Toy Story Mania a few times in a row be prepared for a sore arm! lol

My son and I had a little competition going and the way the gun works on the ride car the faster you pull the cord the faster the gun fires. Needless to say my son and I got a work out. :) The ride is a lot of fun! If you like Buzz Light Year in MK you will likely love this ride.

We had dinner at Chefs de France in Epcot and it was very good. Our day started at 6:30 am and we were all beat so we headed back to our room.

Today, Wed. 6/18, we didn't plan anything for the mornng, We all slept in till about 10:00 am. This afternoon we drove over to Coronado Springs to have lunch at the Pepper Market, which in my opinion is one of the very best values for counter service in WDW especially if you are on the DDP. They have a huge selection and the food quality is very good. I highly recommend the Pepper Market if you have a car to drive there, other wise using the bus to go to a park then to Coronado and vice versa is not convienient at all.

Tonght we have a reservation at the Wave in the Contemporary. :)
