This is a poll for your opinion of the most comfortable (or least uncomfortable, or most bearable) sleeper sofa for a fit 54 year old man for 8 nights. I'm treating extended family to an 8 night 2 BR stay in 2009 and have to decide between SSR, OKW, and AKV for points purposes.

For the record, the sleeper will be my older brother, but it's my points, so I get the master bedroom! (another couple get the second bedroom)

You can vote for more than one in case two resorts are equally fine.

If you have only slept in one but would sleep in it again, go ahead and vote.

Thanks,
Dirk

Dirk I suggest heading to WalMart and getting a Blow-up mattress. They can be cheap when on sale and well worth it.

We stand it up behind or next to the sofa during the day and they work great. Use the hair dryer to blow it up.

Here's just an example for $25 or so can't be beat and then just leave or toss out after the trip. We do pack ours with our Kitchen stuff we take as well in a smaller bag .

Now I have slept on the SSR pullout (came back to DD in bed with DW and didn't want to wake either) and found it to be fine.

I won't vote as I haven't stayed at the other 2 yet.

OMG! The OKW ones are the worst, for sure! SSR very good. I won't be at AK 'till Sept., but I'll be able to tell you then! We fight over the SSR one when we spend a night in a studio. :jumpingbe

I vote for SSR - the one at OKW was absolutely horrid. However - they will bring you a foam mattress pad if you ask. That may help a bit.

Thanks for the information on the blow-up. My folks will be driving from Naples, so they can just pick one up on the way. Doe you prefer to sleep on that instead of the sofa, or place that on top of the pull-out?

Also - how well do they hold their firmness? I had an early one in the late '80s that tended to collapse during the night (and was $150 as opposed to $27!)

Oh, if you've slept on only one of the pull-outs, but would sleep on it again, go ahead and vote.

As it stands now - it looks like OKW is off the list, based on comments. I can't imagine AKV having worse pull-outs than SSR since it's newer, so it will probably come down to points.

Any other votes out there?

Dirk

Looking forward to the report! (This is the one where everything has to go well, right? That means a good pull-out!)

That's good to know - also with the blow-up mattress idea, that might put OKW back on the lest (boy those lower points sure make it tempting when Jim and I are splurging on my family!).

I thought the sleeper sofa in SSR was fine and I don't sleep well as it is. But I agree that a blow up on top of it would be better

The sleep sofas in SSR are great. The are not the same as the old fold outs that have the bar that goes into your back. I believe that BWV now has the same type of sofa as well.

My friend and his wife slept on the sleeper sofa at BWV our last trip and they said that it was really comfortable. No bar in the back and the mattress was nice and firm. They slept really well our trip. I can't imagine the regular bed my wife and I slept on was much better.

If the sleepers at BWV and SSR are the same, then that bodes well for SSR. The next question is whether the sleepers at AKV are the same as SSR (or even better).

Points reasons are really tempting me to try OKW (so we can stay more nights on points on our upcoming January trip) so the blow up sounds like a nice option there, but the family really wants AKV or SSR.

Well, if the family's staying in Naples beforehand, I can certainly understand why they'd want to avoid OKW (and the whole "Florida" theme). I mean, OKW might look really different if you're coming to it from, say, Illinois. ;)

If you're doing the SS at SSR, I'd still ask for a mattress pad. We didn't sleep on it last year; we just pulled it out to have someplace to relax while watching movies. But, it made my back hurt a little (of course, I do have back issues. Maybe your bro doesn't.).

Dirk DD does both (Blow up on Floor and on top of Pullout) depending on if she wants to pull the sofa out or if it's already left out from the day before. For an Adult I would just pull the sofa out and put the AirM right on top.

We have one of the Coleman Twin and it holds it's air just fine. It had a Bladder type pump built in but I don't think she uses that to much.

I may have to use it this trip as my Sleepnumber bed helps with my RLS and 12 days in a regular bed may be a bit to much.

True, true! I might get away with it though. Their principle home is NJ. The Naples condo is a high-rise, and stuck in terrible '70s Euro-chic. Plus, my stepmother loves, loves gardens (but she also loves animals . . .)

Yeah, I'm going to have to talk to him and see. The good news is that his home would qualify for "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and he does sleep on a mattress on the floor, and is an iron worker in fairly good shape.
