and hate opening it as much as I do?
Don't get me wrong I love using it and I do not mind cleaning it but opening it is a Pain in the butt.
Maybe it is just because I use a breathable cover(allows the water to go through it) but every year it is the same thing. Costs a small fortune in chemicals to get it to go from green to crystal clear.
This year I will use a regular cover and see what happens. It would be nice to be able to see throught the water at opening...lol
Here's to another short ) but alot of fun pool season::thumbsup:

Yes and we never have Green water.
We have a smallish 8X12X4ftdeep but leave a heavy cover with a small syphon pump on it. When we let the dog out we check to see if water is on top and if so we give it a few pumps to get it going.
Now this year we are having a bit of trouble with Cloudyness but I think we had a mild winter and also put fresh sand in the filter .
DW and DD use the Pool and I just tink they are hugh Money Pitts but who am I :worried:
I have learnd to Open it one week before you thought you would and go real Heavy on the Shock that entire week late at night. This snaps it right into shape.

We have a mesh cover and opened our pool a month ago with no problems. We have a salt water pool. To keep the algae in check, during the winter we added the floating chlorine dispenser in early December, then and again in late Febraury. Works like a charm.

By ealy December mine is frozen solid. Thaws out by mid May. I usually start opening it Memorial Day weekend but we had baby Robins on our pool steps. We didn't want to disturb the mom during hatching time

We leave ours open all year. Really can't use it after the middle of October here - and then kids start getting back in it in April. So for the 5.5 months the water is too cold - we run the pump 7 hours a day, and just make sure the chemicals stay balanced - water stays nice and clear all year. Eventually we're going to put a solar heater on it- then the water will only be too cold about 3 months out of the year. Living here in FL - a pool is almost a neccesity!

We just got ours last Nov, and we will leave it open all the time. We live in AZ, so like AFMom it's just easier to keep it open year round. Besides, it looks nice and has good ambiance with the pool light on when we are sitting by the fire pit or in the hot tub on those chilly AZ winter nights ;) (much better than MO where we moved from!)

The solid cover will definately help you. Adding the chemicals in the spring ASAP is the most critical to stop the algae.

Ah, but many would say the same about Disney and that's not stopping you either!
Our pool cost too much to install, too much to operate and takes too much time to maintain. But we love, love, love our pool. Its like having our on oasis in the back yard. Too bad we only get 3.5 months of use out of it.
Solid cover here. And never a problem in the spring, usually very clear water when we remove the cover the last week of April.
I hear you on chemical prices! I needed granulated chlorine this weekend and paid $52 for 15 lbs! I just hope it lasts all summer.
P.S. Good to see you Rinkwide.

Salt water pools are the way to go. I added a couple bags when we opened the pool and might have to add two more during the summer and that is it. Plus no dry skin, no chlorine burn and no chemical smells.
We use the "robot" cleaner once every two weeks. Throw the it at night, next morning the pool is clean!

Agreed. My folks converted their's over to salt years ago and are saving money as well as the benefits you mentioned.

We're salt water as well - totally the way to go. Cheaper, easier.... water feels so nice.
I do have to buy stabilizer, algeacide, and muriatic acid - but not cholrine. We rarely ever have to add more salt.

A co-worker switched to the solid cover this winter and said it works great.
Usually at the end of the season our pool store has a 50% off sale so I stock up on Chemicals. Guess a cover is on this years list also
Thanks for eveyones replies.

We have a salt system too and that sounds like the same thing we just bought more of :)
We have the infloor cleaner so we don't have to vaccum or need the robot cleaner. Basically if they said it decreased the amount of labor needed to maintain it, we added it. Maybe we got something we didn't "really" need, but our pool is crystal clear and it's been pretty easy to maintain so far. Yipppee ... I feel the same as everyone else. It's like our own oasis in the backyard :Pinkflami:margarita

Does Anyone have a pool ?
Only when it rains! :umbrella:
We have "liquid sunshine" - LOL
We just don't have enough good reliable weather and the cost is prohibative for most people unless you have the budget of Bill Gates!

We have a pool in Texas. First year I was responsible for it, it had a cover that didn't do its job of keeping things out, just hid the mess. So we had a pond, complete with frogs and turtles.
Since then, I've gradually perfected the art of leaving it open and doing just enough cleaning to keep it on the good side of the edge during the winter.
Then not too much problem starting it up in the spring. We're in it almost every night now.
