I definitely want to get a reservation here for our Dec/Jan trip. I had no idea there was a "martini" constellation.

The Wave is going to be on our must do list in January, too. I'm intrigued by the wine list, and the menu looked good enough.

It will be nice to have a reason to go the Contemporary that isn't a character breakfast or an über-dining experience on the roof!

Are you DISsing the former great eatery the Concourse Steakhouse? I don't recall no stinkin' characters (We don't need no stinkin' characters!) there, just GREAT food at a very fair (esp. for Disney) price!

How quick people forget the good that has passed on!

Thanks for the pics! You always do just a incredible job. I couldn't help but think to myself "wow that looks really nice" and wondered what the park clothed soaked with sweat crowd will do to the atmosphere.

For sure on our list for at least a drink or two. I am also hoping the Sushi Bar stays open, I mean if it's good and all. What a neat alternative to Counter service at MK.

I think that will be a huge hit. wdw needs a place to grab sushi other than epcot.

Does anybody have the menu for the Wave?

The menus for the Wave restaurant had not yet been posted outside (or I'd have taken photos of them). I'm sure I'd seen menu items mentioned in the past few weeks online, I did see flank steak on the menu I peeked at - that looked very good! The prices seemed very reasonable, like at the Concourse Steakhouse.

We can have a MO sushi fest in January if you are up to it. I would prefer to go for lunch... or other than the seven dinners we are not on the DDDP (12/28 - 1/3). Those will be for signature restuarants if my plans hold.

We would have tried Concourse Steakhouse a couple of times, but never quite got around to it. It did look good, but I was put off by complaints the Chef Mickey noise bled in.

Well... they do have sashimi on menu. :)

I get a kick out of watching the east/west demographic split on sushi. It really has gone mainstream on the west coast for at least the past 10 years. By "mainstream"... I mean that it has reached the point where people no longer ask "does everyone like sushi" before deciding to meet there. Even biz meetings... which tend to be more sensitive to pleasing everyone routinely book sushi restaurants.

From what I have seen... this is not the situation on the east coast. Sushi restaurants are still fairly far and few between... and viewed with some level of distrust by a large segment of the population.

We moved from the east to the west... and it was a bit of a culture shock for us. Our kids pulled us into it... as sushi became their absolute favorite food. The other obvious culture shock moving to Portland were the ubiquitous coffee stands. 14 years ago when we moved here... we were shocked when we saw high school kids visiting the Batista's in the school hallways between classes. When I was in school... beverages in class where off limits... and I never would have believed I could walk into class with a triple espresso.

True on the sashimi. I'd like to see more rolls, but as DW says, it's a nice introductory menu for the uninitiated.

I've been a sushi lover for about 20 years, when I moved from Scranton, Pa to Philadelphia for college. We have an excellent, better than many NYC sushi restaurants locally.

Robin is not a fan of sushi. She like her food well, well done. She once got scolded at California Grille for ordering her meal to be cooked well done. It was actually fun to watch her and our waiter going back on forth on how the meat is suppose to be prepared. She won, I lost for laughing at the exchange.

On a positive side, we had our friends over Saturday that are going with us to Atlantis next week. They are big, big fans of sushi and so we had picked up a sushi platter for them, which also in turn benifits me!

We have picked out our preliminary restaurant list for our NYE trip. We are doing the DDP. I don't think we can last 9 days on the DDDP. But I do believe something can be arranged!

Is the reservation date 180 days or 6 months?

Reservations are to be made 180 days out. For our NYE trip we check-in Dec 27th, so we can make our reservations June 30th for the whole trip.

You can call MS to make reservations or call WDW dining directly at 1-407-939-3463. I would call the WDW dining directly, they open at 7 am for reservations. It'll give you a two hour jump on DVC members who use MS for reservations.

Our dates are the same. We will be camping that night... so I will have to wake up at 4:00am and use my cell phone. I am pretty sure there is coverage where we will be camping.

Last year we called first thing in the morning and was surprised on how many of our dining choices were either booked up or only had extremely late/early openings.

I spend so little time in the south (except WDW and New Orleans)... that I never even realized the even greater demographic split regarding sushi. However... I do love cajun food... even if you don't do sushi :)

I guess I should have caught on a little quicker regarding restaurants in the south in the movie "My Cousin Vinny"... that is one of my all time favorites.

These two southerners love Sushi and will be visiting the Kona Sushi Bar in January regardless of any monorail sushi hopping hook-up we might arrange! Of course, we're in the North now and can get fairly good sushi at any grocery store, including the one nearby that serves more economically conscious and vulnerable consumers.

I still remember a friend in Bakersfield, CA saying once: "Can't we go eat Chinese instead of Japanese? You can still get fish, and they'll even cook it for you!"

I thought the same thing, but Sushi is surprisingly non-fishy tasting. Sometimes the blindfold actually helps, though. It's all very, very subtle.

We had dinner at Kona Cafe on the last night of our trip, and had a combo plate from the sushi bar as an appetizer.
The spicy tuna volcano thing was outstanding.

This is the truth! I have a son that has graduated from The Citadel. He just love Sushi. My DSIL was in the Marines, stationed in Japan, the two of them are dangerous together. The rest of the family ride them something terrrible. We ate at TeppenEdo in Dec, of course they gave the rest of the family culture shock. My little DGD just loves Sushi. The generations are changing. Sushi has come to our chinese restaurants here, I am noticing more are eating it. The Bait slogan still gets said occasionally.

On a mac: press option key and u together, then the letter you want an umlaut on.
