Tammy's Whirlwind Overnite to HHI with Pictures!

Ok, so it started off simply enough. Yesterday morning DH and I were sitting on our bed and Dh wanted to know my plans for the day. I said there was nothing to do. DH- Do you want to go to the movies? No. Dh - How about the mall? Nope. DH- Well, lets do something. Me- How about we go to HHI?

I called and could get a two bedroom. Booked on points. Less than an hour later, DH, myself, DS 16, DD 11 and DDs friend were in the car and on our way.

The room itself was large, comfortable and spotless.

Is that the low country boil? I also thought the food was average at best but it was still pretty enjoyable.

To answer questions.

I live just east of Charleston, SC. It was a bit over a 2 hour drive.

This was our first trip to HHI as owners. It will be far from our last! We absolutely loved it and it will become a yearly tradition.

We did go to the Lowcountry Boil. It was mostly that I didn't want to go out looking for a place after driving in. It was expensive with so so food. We have much better boils at home. It was enjoyable but they won't get me again.

Oh Cheyenne! You would love it there. There is a stable down toward Sea Pines where you can do horseback rides around the area. I have always wanted to do it but I get out voted by the guys and the testosterone laden activities like wave runners and such.

Great picks, looks like a great trip Tammy. Maybe one of these years we'll move east and I'll be in a decent drive from all of these great places. For now, we're stick with a flight to WDW every 12-18 months.

But I will never be able to say, "No, let'sjust go to Hilton Head!" if DW wants togoto the movies. Wecan be at the beach in Gulf Shores in 45 minutes, but there's no DVC there!

Cincinnati is no HHI!!! We couldn't do a quick trip either. But someday, we would love to retire to South Carolina. One can dream........ Hey, I only need to buy 49 more weeks!!! (or enough points)

Great pictures, thank for the wonderful trip report. We are driving down to HHI from NJ 8/16-8/23. Will be our first time there, and did not know what to expect. Now I'm really looking foward to it.

I hate your photos.......it makes want to go right now. :) We stayed in the exact same unit labor day 2006. I loved the marsh view in the morning. My wife and I would sit on the deck, drink coffee and read the paper. This is the biggest difference between here, VB and the rest of the DVC hotels. VB and here you dont have to go to a park. You can actually rest and relax.

Did you see the gigantic racoon who lives under the boardwalk there ? Our son and his friends spotted him with a flashlight on night and dropped ice cream to him from the porch. He seems to like ice cream.

Building 15 and 31 are my favorite buildings to stay in because of the views. You were very lucky to catch it on a few days notice. We live in Atlanta so it is a 5 hours trip for us. If we lived closer I would have to buy another 300 points so we could go once a month.

We are going Labor day weekend with a crowd so it will be exciting.
