AKL Update

I am looking for an update to the construction at AKL - anyone have a recent one? Timeframes of completion?

We are looking forward to staying there but would like to wait until all the new buildings are complete.

Spring 2009 is the announced timetable. One guide said he thought May 2009 was likely.

Do you know if they are already taking reservations for the new buildings or are they holding off until they get closer?

I don't think they are taking ressies for Kidani Village yet - that would be trumpeted all over the internet. I don't know if they have to wait until the actually declare unites into inventory before they can take reservations, or if they just need a good idea of a finish date. In either case, I wouldn't expect reservations would be taken until late next fall at the earliest, given the reality of construction timetables.

I know I am a newbie and may not know as much as most of you, but I can share what my guide told me as he was going through the 7 & 11 month window with me after I got my paperwork.

He reminded me that I had to use my developer points by 5/13/09 and that my 2008 points had me be used or banked and that they could only be used after Kidani opens (yes, I know you all know this), but he did say that the expected timeframe for booking Kidani was late July/early August with the expected open date around 5/1/09.

I am taking this with a grain of salt though.

I find it useful to get lots of opinions... and then form my own conclusions on what seems important to me. All opinions are important... not just those who have owned DVC for a long time.

Thanks for sharing that - the opening date jives with what I was told by another guide and a couple of DVC booth reps. I was also told about possible taking ressies this summer - but I'm personally skeptical of construction timelines (been stung before - not at Disney, though).

From your guide's lips to God's ear! We have a trip planned for May5-12. My 11 month booking window for the whole thing is approaching, so as soon as they announce they will book Kidani, I'll try to get a ressie!
