Can someone explain to me why they would go for an AP rate at a moderate--which, right now, even if you are going value season, would be $99/night (other times are considerably more, $135 and up), rather than renting or transferring points to your DVC account and staying in a studio at aDVC property? OKW studios are actually less than the AP rate at certain travel times, but even the other DVC resorts are in the 110 pt/night neighborhood, so the AP rate is comparable almost anywhere.
I'm not judging anyone's vacation choices, I am just curious why you choose a moderate over the larger, more equipped (microwave, kitchenette) DVC accomodations. There must be some logic to you doing it that way, but I can't figure it out. :veryconfu :scratchch :idontgeti

Well, I haven't done it, but I'm thinking that most DVC owners only do it on the weekends, when using or renting points for a weekend stay doubles or triples.
Since I started my DVC ownership by renting points (before I closed), I'm comfortable with renting; but I think some people are still nervous about it.

I think for weekends, sometimes it is easier to stay on a AP rate, for someone that is not used to renting points. (like me!:D ) I think once I do some more renting/transferring, and I am more comfortable with the process, then I would go that way.

also more flexibility.
You can cancel a regular room ressie with far less notice and penalty than you can a DVC room. With DVc you get those pesky "holding" points.

Just to clarify--I wasn't referring to weekends, that I totally understand. I meant for those that book weekdays at an ap rate vs weekdays with a point transfer/rental.
Rwe, your point is well taken (ha no pun intended!). I can see why there is more flexibility with AP as opposed to rent/transfer.

We only do it on the weekends as well. Living close enough to do long weekend trips (and close enough to drive) would mean a poor use (in my opinion) of our valuable DVC points!
I think there are TONS of DVC owners that don't know about renting and transferring points. The girl that gave hubby and I the scoop and talked us into buying didn't know and she has been an owner for a long time now.

I got the AP rate for POFQ this morning becuase we are going down for Star Wars Weekends...just for the weekend. Since we're staying Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night, it was cheaper for us to stay at a mod rather than rent points or borrow. $119 a night for mod vs 58 points for OKW studio.
Also, once in a while I like to stay in a resort and have mousekeeping clean up after my family for awhile instead of me doing it ;)
Plus, I'm almost out of 2007 points already b/c of borrowing for our big trip in November. We're taking the whole family along, so I needed a lot of points.
And quite, honestly, I've never rented before. I'm a little nervous dealing with renting and transfering right now. I would have to be more confident with that whole process first.
But, after seeing Greenbanned's thread on the rent/transfer board, I'm very tempted to try it in November for an additional studio.

If we were to do this it would just be to add variety to our stay. It is nice to try out non-DVC resorts and accomodations once in a while. I'd never use my points to stay at a non-DVC. That would be a waste.

I think she was talking about someone paying cash for an AP rate at a moderate versus paying to rent points to stay at DVC, not using points to stay at a moderate.

Yep you are right, that is what I meant. :howudoin:
