I recently found out how to obtain free Kennedy Space Center tickets. On the cruiseline boards, I found out that if you contact your local Congressman and simply request that you would like tickets to the Kennedy Space Center, you get them free! Apparently so many are allotted each Congressman to give out to people living in their districts. They are there simply for the asking, no other strings attached. I just got 3 adult tickets for my VB trip in August! If you don't know who your local Congressman is, just do a Google search. Then contact them locally first, but I was referred to their Washington Office. They will ask you what time frame you will be down to visit (list a few days), how many people would be visiting (adults and children), your phone number and address. You will then receive a letter that states your day to attend, number in your party and your name as the contact. The tickets are held at KSC. You will have to show them the letter to get your tickets. Thats it!

I read about this and tried it. I contacted my congresswoman's office and have not received one word in reply.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from doing it. I've read about a lot of people getting tickets this way. But I have not.

I just don't want anyone to think that this works all the time. Sometimes you get a responsive representative. Sometimes you don't. Just don't bank on it. If you get them, great. If you don't, plan for it.

I wonder what this gets you access to?
The Visitor's Center is leased by a private company so I doubt if it gets you in there.
I'll be curious to hear how this works out...

The tickets give you the same exact access as if you paid the regular admission price. As for the other OP, you have to be persistent. You can't just do one email or one phone call and wait. You need to keep calling back. You need to inquire as early as possible. No last minute requests. Six months out is not too far out. Some offices get right back to you, some you need to keep calling back. It all depends on your Congressman's staff.

I wish we knew this when we were in Vero last June! We went to Kennedy Space Center and if I remember right, 2 adults and 2 kids was close to $150!:headbange

If you're at WDW and you've used the DME, how do you get over to the Kennedy Space Center? Is there some sort of bus/train/etc? We won't have a rental car.:grouphug:

I don't know if I'd leave WDW to visit the KSC. If you're already staying on the Florida coast it's a nice day trip though.

My kids didn't like it. And my brother's kids didn't like it. And my daugher's friend who was along on our vacation didn't like it. That's 7 kids ages 16 - 9 who were all in agreement about not liking the compound.

Having said that, my husband and I loved it and my brother and sister in law loved it. I guess space travel wasn't that impressive to our kids. (Or the kids were so desperate to get to disney that they were mad we stayed on the coast for a couple of day before disney.)

I suspect the tickets through your congressman's office are for the base tour, which probably isn't the most interesting way to visit the Kennedy Space Center.

We took a day trip there last fall (12 day trip, so leaving for a day was actually nice), but had booked the NASA Up Close tour, one of the premium tours. You get a more knowledgeable tour guide (or at least one who spends more time explaining what's going on) and get closer to launch pads and vehicle assembly building. I found it to be really worth it.

There is also a Disney quality launch attraction (I'm not sure if admission is extra, or if you have to upgrade a ticket to get access), that is like Star Tours on steroids with the authentic feeling of Mission:Space. Very impressive.

It's easy to spend a full day there. About 90 minutes travel by car.

The tickets you get thru your Congressman are the same as the general admission tickets you would pay full price for. You see everything that comes with the general admission tickets. I did this just this past August. The tickets are held like "will call" at the window. You must present your letter, then you get the tickets. That said, we saved alot of money ($40/ticket). If anyone read my most recent trip report, we HATED KSC. So I am grateful I didn't have to pay for the tickets. If you want a more up close and personal tour, you have to pay an additonal $30 or so for the extra tours ONTOP of the general admission. With the free Congressman tickets, you would only pay the extra tour fee.
