DAY 5 – Tuesday 5/27/08
Who: Sue (49), DVC member

Plan: Downtown Disney, Resort, Epcot

Actual: I woke up around 6:40 and decided to get up then. After cleaning up & getting dressed I took my bag of laundry downstairs to get that out of the way. However, inside the laundry room the floor was wet with a bunch of wet towels piled on the floor, and a frazzled man was in there explaining that he didn’t do anything wrong, lol! They have the new washers/dryers like at the BCV, and I hate them. They’re hard to figure out, and don’t always work right, and the wash cycle is almost a friggin’ hour. He had both washers going, and he said he did them at the same time and they started at 4 minutes apart (on the time) and now they were 10 minutes apart. I chatted with him for a while, then decided nothing was worth this crap and I will find time to get the laundry done at home even if it means having Chris do it.

I went back up to the studio and made some cappuccino, then settled down to finish yesterday’s report. It was completely cloudy outside, but that will burn off – hopefully by the time I get back from Downtown Disney. By 8:30 the sun was shining brightly, and it was promising to be a beautiful day. The high is supposed to be only 86 today, which they said is 4 degrees below the average. Around 8:30 I left the studio and stopped to fill the car up with gas before parking at the Marketplace.

I love the Marketplace in the early morning hours, as it’s the only time it’s not mobbed and I’m able to walk a my pace without slowing for people in my way, lol! There were some work trucks outside the Ghiradelli store, and men were finishing up some concrete work. I’d never seen trucks INSIDE the Marketplace before. Nothing was open of course, so I just wandered around outside a bit, then walked over to Wolfgang Puck’s Express to arrive just before 9.

I only had to wait a couple of minutes for them to open, and since another family was already waiting I got in line behind them. SB called just as it was my turn, so I placed my order and then called him back once I was seated at a table outside. I had the 3-cheese, tomato & basil omelet again, which comes with the garlic roasted potatoes. This time the omelet only had goat cheese on the top, rather than inside, so it wasn’t as outstanding as the last one. I ate a little more than half the omelet and less than half the potatoes, and was quite full for most of the day (protein, I guess). The family ahead of me was a mom, dad, and young girl (maybe 8 or 9). They ordered TWO of the chocolate chip Belgian waffles plus the cornflake French toast. I know the French toast is easily enough to share (and should be, given the fat & calories in that yummy meal), and I know how huge Belgian waffles are – so that family must have thrown away at least a meal’s worth of food. They weren’t on the meal plan, either.

After breakfast I went to Goofy’s Candy Co and got 2 of the custom rice krispie treats. I had them made the same – milk chocolate, m&m’s, butterfinger & peanut butter cups. Talk about candy overload, but I’m sure they’ll be delicious! One is for a co-worker who has done us favors on hotels. They now put the treats just on a plate and into a bag – no more boxes. I carried them carefully out to the car and drove back to the Boardwalk. Once upstairs I changed into my swimsuit and went down to spend a couple hours or so at the Villas quiet pool.

There were 2 families each with 2 young kids, and they were playing happily but loudly in the pool. It wasn’t out of line or anything, but it would have been nicer if they’d gone to the main pool. However, the boy evidently got too loud or did something wrong and the dad was right there firmly ordering him out of the pool and to a lounge chair for a time out. It was nice to see parents who care enough about their kids to actually parent them – and soon the boy was back playing with the other kids without any further incident.

My son Chris called to see what time I’d be home, as he was waxing a friend’s car and it was in our garage. Since I won’t be home until tomorrow, it won’t be a problem <g>. We might see each other Thursday night – otherwise not until next week sometime, as our schedules are different. I talked to SB again, then took my shower and got dressed. It was such a nice day, and it was my last day here, so I took the rest of the wine out to the balcony and sat there reading for a while. It was absolute heaven out there – no noise except the background music and the horns on the boats. Hardly any people were out walking, as they were mostly in the parks. I came in sometime after 2:30 and snacked on some (too much) of my rice krispie treat – omigod are those things good!

At 3 I watched General Hospital and got ready to head out when it was finished. I was out the door shortly after 4, headed to Epcot for the last time this trip. I tried to ignore the fact that I had to leave tomorrow – it’s comforting knowing I’d be back, but it’s still so hard to leave to go back to the “real world” of work, etc.

Once again entering Epcot was a breeze from here, and this time I headed into Future World. The tip board showed Spaceship Earth with a 10-minute wait, but when I got there it was posted as 5 minutes. I rode it, enjoyed it, as usual. Test Track was out of fastpasses for the day, as was Soarin – which today only had an 80-minute wait now. I didn’t bother with either attraction. I wandered around taking pictures, then headed for World Showcase and decided to take pictures of each country since I don’t think I’ve done that since the early 1980’s.

In Germany I got a cup of ice and a plastic glass of wine, then I went and got a seat for the 5:45 Cowsills concert. I had 10 minute to wait, but I had a magazine with me to pass the time. It was another great show, and I took several photos for a friend who wished she was Susan Cowsill way back when <g>. Speaking of Susan, she was back to the cowboy boots and shorts tonight, paired with lovely thigh-high argyle socks. Yikes!

After the concert I wandered through the rest of the counties taking more pictures, then went back to America for a disappointing pretzel and most of the 7pm concert. The pretzel was smaller than I remember, and didn’t taste as well. I think I can skip that on future trips, unless I see it first. About 7:20 or so I left the concert (I sat in the back this time) and walked back to the Boardwalk. I stopped at the front desk to have my charges closed out to the credit card so there’d be no bill delivered tomorrow morning after I left. From there it was up to the studio to finish the report and photos, and listen to SB’s game. I think his game started late due to a rain delay, as he called before the first Cowsills’ concert to say they had the field covered then. I took the laptop out onto the balcony to do all the work, since it was such a beautiful night. They say by Thursday it’ll be miserable again in terms of the weather (which would be normal).

The Comedy Warehouse photos will be sent to that list separately – what’s in the album above are the resort & parks photos. There’s a lot from Epcot, and some from the resort.

This was a great trip, except for that lousy bus experience. I guess I have to encounter problems once in a while, but I will let Disney know I wasn’t happy about that! Hopefully I’ll be back at this resort again next Memorial Day weekend, in another boardwalk view studio.

My next trip will be over the 4th of July weekend, and will have no park time at all since my pass is blacked out from mid-June until mid-August. I’m looking forward to relaxing at Saratoga Springs and enjoying Comedy Warehouse. After that, I’ll be at Old Key West for Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for reading!
