INTRODUCTION:
The past 2 Memorial Day weekends have been spent at Boardwalk Villas and this year is no exception. Fortunately I’ve always been able to get the boardwalk view despite not being able to book until 7 months in advance (I cannot book at 11 months because my points are not from this resort). I enjoy staying here once a year, particularly for the easy walk to/from Epcot. It’s also pleasant sitting out on the balcony with a glass of wine while watching and listening to all the activity going on down below on the boardwalk itself. The only downside is the potential for a very long walk down the hallway to the room, and to a lesser degree I am not usually thrilled with the décor in the studios here. Oh, and of course there’s that hideous clown face at the end of the slide at the main pool – yuck! But, I can live with it since the convenience and other good points outweigh the negative. I’ll come up after work on Friday, spend 5 nights and leave early enough to get to work on Wednesday morning. With the holiday, it means my trip only costs 1 vacation day.

The quiet pool on the Boardwalk Villas side will be closed during my stay, but typically I never take the extra steps to go over there instead of the main pool anyway. It might make the main pool a little busier, but it’s usually not too hard finding a single lounge chair. Most of my planned dining this trip will be in the Boardwalk-Epcot area, where I’ve booked 2 dinners and a lunch. This trip falls near the end of the Flower & Garden Festival, and while I’m not a gardener at all I do enjoy the extra pretty flowers in the park as well as the nightly concerts. During this stay I’ll get to see Gary Puckett and then the Cowsills performing at Epcot.

As usual, this trip is all about relaxing, so I won’t be running through the parks like I’ve never seen them before. Most likely I’ll spend some mornings in a park, afternoons at the pool, and evenings either at Comedy Warehouse or Epcot (or the resort). I’m hoping to see a friend I haven’t seen in years, as our trips will overlap this time. I really enjoyed the last day of the April trip, where I didn’t even bother with a park until after dinner, so I plan to do that twice this trip. My next trip will include no parks at all, so although I love the idea of not rushing off to a park for 9am every day, I might as well visit parks on some of the mornings this time.

I have a reservation at LeCellier, booked the required 6 months in advance. Someone on the adult/solo section of the DIS Boards posted to see if any other solos would be at WDW this weekend, and I invited her to join me for the LeCellier lunch. I booked a dinner at Chefs de France, primarily for the onion soup and the pretty dining room. On the first night I have a 5:05 reservation at Spoodles since I saw an appetizer that interested me. I realize a reservation isn’t necessary there at that time, but I’m covered “just in case”. Assuming I arrive at Boardwalk Villas at my usual time, I’ll have an hour to check in, go to my studio and get settled before a light dinner at Spoodles and then an evening in Epcot. I really like the idea of staying at different DVC resorts on different trips, and focusing my dining and other activities to that resort’s location. It really makes life easier!

The plans so far are:
Friday 5/23: Work, Drive to WDW, Spoodles, Epcot
Saturday 5/24: MK or AK extra magic hour, LeCellier, Epcot
Sunday 5/25: Resort, Chefs de France, Comedy Warehouse
Monday 5/26: AK or MK, Pool, Comedy Warehouse
Tuesday 5/27: Downtown Disney, Resort, Epcot
Wednesday 5/28: Drive to work

I look forward to hearing more, too!

It's good to know that I'm not alone on my preference for the French Onion Soup at Chefs de France. My party gave me strange looks when I ordered it instead of the Lobster Bisque, which is very excellent. There's just something about that particular soup that stands out, even though I'll order a seafood bisque 9 times out of 10 if it is on a menu.

I'll be interested to hear if there are any significant changes over at PI/DTD, too!
