Another question, how difficult is it to purchase additional points through Disney to a home resort at VWL? I.E. is there a waitlist to get additional points, can I get points at any time of year?

For the purpose of finances I'm thinking of buying a small resale to start and then adding on down the road (2 plus years from now) But just want to make sure that I won't have problems purchasing additional points.

Further, if I were to purchase additional points for VWL (as a home resort) through a resale down the road, could these points be applied to make one reservation with the initial points? (I hope that makes sense).

Thanks again!

After my initial purchase into DVC, I've since done 15 add-on contracts direct from Disney. Of the 15, there was only one time that the points weren't immediately available and I had to waitlist (that was for BCV), but the points came in about a month.

That said, it really depends on the points that Disney has acquired via ROFR for your particular Use Year (all add-ons will be for your same Use Year), and how many points you're looking to add-on. People seem to have waitlist the most for BCV. I've found it very successful to ask for smaller point packages (25-40 points).

When you add-on from Disney, the points will be for your existing Membership Number and Use Year. If your add-on is for the same resort you own, the points are essentially combined.

If you add-on via resale, you can purchase a different Use Year but you will now have separate Membership Numbers and the points cannot be combined easily to make a single reservation. You'll need to transfer points between contracts to achieve that.

If you add-on via resale and purchase the same UY, it's still possible to end up with two different Membership Numbers unless your broker and/or the title company inform DVC Member Administration that you'd like the new contract transferred into your existing Membership Number.

Our main contract is at OKW, but we've added on twice at VWL, direct from Disney. It was more economical to add on from Disney, because Disney has no closing costs if you're already a DVC member.

There was no wait list both times we added on, but check with your guide to be sure.

We've added on at VWL about 9 months ago. Like others, we had no wait.

And remember, you can add-on near the end of your existing use year to save a bit on MFs, and still get points for the nearly expired year. Our experience has been that they will still let you bank those points, even if the window has otherwise expired.

Talk to your saleperson, but there is a chance here for some marginal savings based on the timing of your purchase.

We did the resale for our initial by in to DVC, but have done all add-ons direct from DVC.
