But should we hold the mayo?!

In what may be a nod to the fact that "Kingdom Tower Resort" reminded potential buyers of the perhaps controversial Kingdom Halls utilized as places of worship by Jehovah's Witnesses, Disney Vacation Development has changed the DBA ("doing business as" name) of the Kingdom Tower Resort to the "Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort."

You can find the new name HERE (https://www.myfloridalicense.com/LicenseDetail.asp?SID=&id=D7D1BEE2578C1A3AD7707E38312ECCE5).

So, instead of KTR, we now have BLT.

While the move may be viewed negatively by some Magic Kingdom enthusiasts and positively by those who are looking for Disney to increase the correlation between acknowledged luxury and Disney branding, at least the new name chosen by DVD should not be a surprise to anyone.

After all, as we reported earlier (http://www.mouseowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13511), should the "KTR" ever fold, the resort would be renamed the "Bay Lake Club."

Unsurprisingly, Disney has no comment on the entire situation.

I didn't particularly like KT... but I would have thought they would have kept the contemporary as part of the naming. CRV or something like that.

I also like just saying Disney's Contemporary Villas. Bay Lake tower is no good. It surprises me that they would connect the tower to Bay Lake and not to the Magic Kingdom. I know that this is what they were trying to do with Kingdom Tower, but come on this is Disney. Surely they can come up with something better than Bay Lake Tower.:sosad:

Can you really file paperwork to change the name for a project that does not exist I see this as yet another nod that despite their reluctance to annouce a new DVC resort, it's only a matter of time.

I'm calling my Vacation Guide today to purchase points. :ROTFL:

Do you think this has any reference to the paperwork that mentioned having a separate Bay Lake Tower association separate from DVC? I wonder if they will sell this off later on? That makes me nervous...

I can see the name change from Kingdom Tower, but BLT sounds almost as unfortunate as MILF (Monster's Inc Laugh Floor).

This whole thing begs the question about why a different name anyway? Is this not going to be your Father's DVC, but something different altogether? This is one beast I want to see born before I settle on a name . . .

Pure, unadulterated political correctness.

I disagree.

I think Disney is out to sell a product, and they think they're more likely to sell a product whose name is rather bland, or at least, doesn't have potential religious connotations in one way or another.

It's not like they've renamed "Sleeping Beauty" "Beautiful Sleeper" (which is a bit more androgynous and a lot more politically correct).

If they want to disassociate it from the Contemporary resort, why are they building a skybridge to connect the two?! :innocent: CRV it is.

Disney towers, or Disney's Magical towers....

the other site suggested we (dvc members) get to vote on it - but until Disney says it is a DVC resort....:innocent:

The contemporary looked pretty modern in its time... but now it is the same problem that they had with "Tomorrowland". It looks like last yesterday's version of tomorrow.

Maybe they want to retire the name "Contemporary" alltogether... but that would probably surprise me if they did... they would not want the backlash generating negative PR.

Best get ready to change the Magic Kingdom's name next, I guess.

BLT??? What are they going to name the Poly, when and if it ever comes up? PVC?? ( Polynesian Vacation Club).

I really can't comprehend why DVC would pick such a ludicrous name!!!

I can just picture it now... which resort is your favorite.... BLT?

What if you are Jewish and want to keep Kosher? Are you allowed to stay there?

Another brilliant name (Bay Lake Tower) that they came up with rather than the obvious, Contemporary Villas Resort, which would fall into line with all the other DVC resorts....

I just had a thought, could they be saving the CRV name in the event that Contemp. Hotel becomes converted into a DVC resort? Sheer speculation on my part!!

Seven Seas Longhouses?

I really hated the name "Kingdom Tower Resort" so I am glad that they changed it. I don't mind "Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort" even if it has a funny acronym. Maybe they are preparing us for few MK Views with the new name ;).

FWIW, I don't care what it's called. I have money set aside to buy 100 points :).

I don't mind BLT at all. It makes me hungry. :yummy:

I guess technically the abbreviation would be BLT@DCR, and the full wording does pretty much tell you where it is. So no biggie. I do prefer it to Kingdom Tower, which I think is a bit too much like Kingdom Hall (remember also that our Jehovah's Witness friends like to give us copies of their magazine The Watchtower); the association is pretty close, IMO, so the change is probably a good choice.

I respect your opinun, but I dont see it. Does the magic kingdom make you think of "kingdom hall" or "king size" soda's? Just cant get to the association myself. But maybe I am bias because I like KTV. Sounded classy to me. But what do I know :idontgeti

I third that and I've been refusing to even use KT in my posts. I knew that wouldn't be the name and I'd bet that CRV or VACR will be the common name.

Well there goes that plan :jester:

Yeah, I can be slow, too. I saw American Pie 3 times (don't ask why), but it still took a Google search to see why everyone was smirking when Monster's Inc opened. :)

As for the name - I"m telling you, this intrigues me. I'm not at all convinced this will be DVC as we know it, since even the Grand Californian Villas go by the standard naming practice.

It is interesting and I agree that this may be a new thing, not DVC as we know it. But how different? Diff. entitiy entirely?? Or something like lenshanem asked about?

Yes - that's in the documents we posted when we first broke the Kingdom Tower information.

The whole name thing is very strange to me - but I suspect it amounts to nothing and will be what everyone else expected.

I think you'll find similar language in all the DVC POSs... Since there is a theoretical chance any of the resorts could be spun/sold/voted out of the "Club," they have to have a non-DVC governing entity name incorporated.

That is correct. It wouldn't be entirely shocking if DVC did this at some point. I could see a low demand seasonal resort like HH being dropped at some point. Marriott has divested themselves of some of their properties so there is some precedent for this happening.

DVC likely wouldn't want the negative press but it could happen. Personallly I'd be thrilled if HH was dropped from the list. That resort creates a tremendous booking strain on this point based system. It is seasonal and empty for the majority of the year. The rest of the time those owners book at WDW at 7 months. The impact of such is probably as great as SSR owners booking out at 7months. If dropped, those owners would be limited to use those points at that resort only.:clappingh
