Only a Disney nut would wonder this! For the first time, I was told by my doctor that I'm probably going to need a hysterectomy. One reason that panics me? I've got a solo trip planned in October-this better not screw it up! So what's the latest I could have the hysterectomy and plan on going solo October 17th. If it matters, the recommendation was based on growing uterine fibroids that I've had for years (but for some reason, now that I'm post-meno, they're growing-TMI, I'll bet!) Next step seems to be an ultrasound do determine the exact size (grapefruit or small soccer ball, he figures). So how long after a hysterectomy can I plan to take a solo Disney trip? Any experiences?

What kind will it be? I kow the size of the incision varies - I think that will really make a difference for you. My MIL had one about 8 years ago, and she was off her feet for about 2 or 3 weeks. But reallly - didn't get fully functioning (enough for a trip) for over a month. Everyone is different, though, and even just 8 years ago the surgery was more invasive. I think the Doc will know a lot more of what you can expect after your ultrasound. If it gets too close to the dates - you could always have it done after....... I know- but I'm a nut - I WOULD plan my surgeries around vacations! Priorities!;)

DW who is an :cone: OB/GYN :cone:, feels 8 weeks will be safe for you to walk around the park, and ride most rides (RnRR and SpaceM) would be conditional on how you feel.

This is based on the asumption of an open TAH +/- BSO, as a laparoscopic TAH/VH seems unlikely given the sizes of the leiomyomas you have reported......

You can also go to http://www.hystersisters.com for additional info on surgeries, prognoses, expectations, etc. They have nice forums, too. I found the site really helpful in addressing things that my doctor did not tell me (like starting Colace right after the surgery to avoid pain later).

Yeah - I think MIL was laprascopic - which explains the quicker recovery times.

Thanks so much for all your help. I've already checked out and joined hystersisters, but haven't checked hers foundation yet. I'm not looking to necessarily even ride any rides, reading around the pool is OK with me, But in case I want to see Illuminations, I'll be staying at BCV, and I'm mostly concerned about walking and carrying a few things. And sitting on the bus if I go to AK to walk around a little.
AFMom, thanks for understanding-it certainly is about priorities, and Disney's a high priority.

It is not the same thing... but DW did go to Disneyland about a week and a half following an emergency gall bladder surgery. She did have laposcopic surgery which makes things a bit easier.

We had an invitation to attend dinner at Club 33... which was a big reason that we didn't want to cancel. We took it easy... and she went on some rides, such as Soar'n... but nothing that was rock and roll'n. We considered a wheel chair, but she decided that it was not necessary.

I too was wondering the same thing!!! How long before I can do a Disney trip. Just with what I had done (not a whole hyster but endo clean up as well as the tube and ovary) I personally wasn't feeling up to anything strenuous until about week 7.

Hope this helps!
