View Full Version : HHI question

My husband is not as big of a Dinsey freak as me, so I offered to go to HHI next year. We are thinking of going in early May (before schools get out, but after Easter, Spring Breaks and Passover) and hoping for a 1 bedroom.

I know it all varies and I have had great luck getting resorts at "usual busy DVC times" and bad luck at "slow times for DVC". But how hard is it usually to get a 1 or 2 bedroom this time of year? Is day by day calling necessary? (just did that for BCV during F&GF) or is it a little easier to get into?

Or am I fooling myself and I should look elsewhere for a vacation next year? ;)

Thanks :)

Great choice to go to HHI-we love it there! There are far fewer 1 BRs than 2 BRs, but I think that in May you might have a shot-as long as it's not getting close to the end of the month. Like you, I have a DH who isn't too much of a Disney freak, but he LOVES HHI. He just is a non-believer when it comes to Shadow. Hopefully, you'll get to meet Shadow.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Once spring break clears, and the Verizon golf classic in Harbortown, but before Memorial Day, you should get lucky.

May is a really beautiful month to go. It's in the low-80's there right now.

For the not-so-crazy-about Disney crowd, I think it is a very nice resort. Heck, it's our home, so I should like it, right?

Thank you both!!! I wasn't aware of the golf classic in Harbortown, but I will add that into my dates to avoid next year. We have points to burn so if it is easier for us to do a 2 bedroom (though we don't need it) we'll be happy to do it. We're rather flexible. It's all new to me though, since I am so used to doing WDW. I used to go a lot by myself or with friends, but with our baby, now we have to think of places we all can go, until my munchkin is old enough to travel well with just me (he's 5 months currently). So this was a compromise for the both of us :)

We were there this year during the golf classic. We didn't know about it until we got down there. I don't know if it effects availably at HHI, but it didn't affect the traffic unless you went to Harbortown (which I would personally skip if we went to HHI again).

CM's at the resort have said that it brings in extra guests. Not sure if that means members or cash ressies, but I've been told that the week of the golf tournament generally sells out.

And I agree with your impression of Harbortown. In the 8 years we've been going to HHI, we went once and that was plenty.

Thanks again all! I checked and the golf tournament isn't at a time when we'd want to go anyway (around peak spring break times).

I do have a question. Are there any "not to be missed" that you all have done? It will be me, my husband and my DS who will be about 1.5. We're looking for relaxation, but I need to do a few things during the day. My husband is content doing nothing. Any areas, tours or the like that you think we need to see?

I have not been to Hilton Head, so I can't give any advice about the area. I just wanted to tell you if you go down to Hilton Head, avoid the Myrtle Beach area the second and fourth week of May. There are two huge bike rallies on those weeks. Of course, if you are into motorcycles then ignor this...lol.

LOL, I heard about the bikers being at Myrtle Beach before by someone vacationing and caught off guard. Fortunately we have absolutely zero plans to go that area. I'm not sure how much off the path it is from our drive anyway, but I did remember that. Of course my cousins into biking know about it and love it ;)
