As I was thinking about my different disney trips over the years. I realized I have been hiding a secret that might make all true Disney people look at me very differently from now on. I can't continue to hide this any longer, so here it goes....

I have never ridden on Dumbo the Flying Elephant!

I hate to admit to that, but I feel better getting it off my chest.

So everyone take my lead and come clean, go ahead and confess to your Disney ride sacrilege if you need to.

You'll feel better!

We rode Dumbo once - our first trip together in 2003. It was 9:15 am, just after park opening, it was already hot and the line was already 20 minutes long. No need to do that again! (But it was fun.)

Now, we have friends who rode Dumbo during Wishes, and it was the most magical ride of their life.

I have never ridden on Dumbo the Flying Elephant!

My Mom said I rode it when I was 3 or 4. Obviously I don't remember it. I rode it "for the first time" last December with my daughter.

I've never ridden Dumbo in WDW.
Rode it twice in Disneyland.

Here's one.
I've never ridden Small World. In either park!
We wanted to ride the DL original, but as most probably know, it's down for a major rehab.

:boundumbo My confession is the same as yours Sam.....never rode Dumbo and honestly never really wanted too.....between the extremely long lines with not so happy children :bugeyed: and the fact that I get severely motion sick :hurl:, I gladly walk by it every visit.

I rode Dumbo at Disney Land during grad night.. 20 yrs ago... The next time (and last) was at Disney World in 2006. The line was SOOOO long but my niece had requested it. And by the time we got our turn the crowd was so anxious a women tripped out of the gate and fell face first onto the concrete... they let us sit on the ride while she was attended to, but it was such a delay they gave us a fast pass for any ride to be used the next day.. we used it on Space Mountain... will not go back to Dumbo unless desperately requested by a child.
The ride I always skip is Stitch.. My sister went on it once - when they dared to go to Disney without me - and her review was not good....

I don't like Space Mountain or the Teacups.:hurl:
I did appreciate the DLP version of Space Mountain, however. The music and the launch made it better . It was a smoother ride also.

I have never been on Dumbo or the teacups! I would love to ride the teacups but no one else ever wants to ride it when I am there. I tried to ride Dumbo last time we were at the World... we hightailed it to Fantasyland at park open and as soon as we got through the castle, DS wanted to ride the caroseul FOUR times in a row. After that, he never he looked at Dumbo.

My confession is having never gone on space mountain which my husband thinks is just plain stupid. Soo afraid of getting motion sickness! Rock and Roll roller coaster made me green for 3 hours! Don't even get me started about mission space! Really think they need to have a bathroom available RIGHT when you exit the ride! I will never trust my husband and daughter again when they tell "it's not that bad!" On the other hand when I go throught the tomorrow land transit I think that space mountain looks like a really cool experience. Anyone else get motions sickness and think space mountain is not that bad? Maybe I will trust yall! I LOVE DUMBO!! That being said we do not have to wait in line that long because my son is autisic and we have a disability pass. May not be worth the wait!

If you'd said you'd never been on the "It's a Small World" ride, I'm pretty sure they'd have no choice but to ban you. But for Dumbo - I believe it's just a warning?

If the Small World thing is what bans you, NJNick has a problem, LOL. I have never done Stitch or Mission Space. When we went in 2002, I was pregnant and couldn't ride Mission Space. DH and SIL were pretty green after they rode, so I have stayed away from it. I can't remember if I have ridden the Aladdin ride. It is so much like Dumbo, maybe they just blend together.

I've never done Dumbo:boundumbo but I have done Alladin Magic Carpets ( same thing plus "spiitting camels"), never done teacups or the Rockets in Tomorrowland.
I was one of the few to do Rocket Rods @ DLR, but that's another thread.
Everything else being discussed like Space Mt, Mission: Space and Rock"n" Roller Coaster, TOT, I pop my Dramamine and hop right on, 2 & 3 times.
My biggest confession: OKW is not for us!

I've never done Dumbo:boundumbo but I have done Alladin Magic Carpets ( same thing plus "spiitting camels"), never done teacups or the Rockets in Tomorrowland.

Lets see, Dumbo, Magic Carpets, Rockets, Triceratops spin, (am I missing a couple?) are all the same rides basically just a different theme. The rockets get a break due to their location above Future world. I've been on them all but its kind of an interesting observation.

By the way, never had a dole whip either... need to try one.

Judithen
05-12-2008, 02:54 AM
Okay, I'm with you on the Dole Whips. I've had them and love pineapple but...maybe if they tasted more like Nada Coladas...

And I've been on Dumbo with my grandkids...and being a dutiful grandmother will go on it again. But when it's just me and hubby in the parks...uh...no.

As for Space Mountain, okay, you can't keep me off it or any of the extreme rides and I go as a Single Rider because hubby won't ride. Thank goodness the grandkids have taken after grandma.

But my true confession is: I really hate the Jungle Cruise. Forgive me, Walt. I know it was one of your pets. It's not the animatronics. It's not the scenary or concept. It's the script. That script just makes me cringe. The whole thing...not just any part.

Okay...

Never done Dumbo - never plan to. As most have observed - Aladdin and Dinosaur one are same thing - just less waiting.

No Dole Whip yet - but keep planning on it - if I can just find the seller of said item

I do not have any huge secret but have embarrassing moment - getting kicked off Goofy Barnstormer because I am too big to get the bar closed :( :idontgeti

But that is probably a different thread

If it goes around in circles, goes up and down or jerks, I won't be riding it. I did Big Thunder Mt on our first trip and got so sick I had to lie down for a few hours. I don't do Dumbo, I don't do Space (either of them as much as I would like to to Mission:Space), I don't do Aladdin (neither MK or DQ), I don't do the carousel, can't do Astro Orbiter, etc.

Heck, Circlevision 360 makes me dizzy.

Which doesn't leave me much, but those things I can do I try to do often. I spend a lot of time people watching and waiting for my guys to get off the attractions I can't do.

I have tried the patch, tried ginger, tried Dramamine, Bonine and meclazine. Nothing works.

Baltosam
05-12-2008, 06:53 AM
Oh, I almost forgot about the Dole Whips. I read on that other board how people go nuts for them! I love pineapple, I love pinapple juice.......I hate Dole Whips!

Is hate too strong? Maybe, I mean they don't make me gag, but I won't get another one. I suppose I was too hyped up to try one, but I just found them to be too sweet or something. I get sick of it about a quarter way through one.

I also forgot about the Aladdin ride; never done that one either. When my kids were little I was the one taking pictures. I just never got on Dumbo and the Aladdin ride came much later just didn't see the point.

I have however ridden One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish at Islands of Adventure and I liked it! Trying to either get hit with the water to make your kids or wife scream or to see if you can avoid the water is quite fun.

I think I have ridden just about everything else at The Magic Kingdom. Can't say I love all the attractions, in fact I hate Stitch, here hate is not to strong a word, I'd love to see it go. I also think the Jungle Cruise is in dire need of a refit/update.

This is why having DD is both a blessing and a curse. She lets me "get away" with riding certain rides that others would give me the fish-eye if I were riding sans child. (We went to Kennywood yesterday prior to the park-closing thunderstorm and she is still young enough that there are a few rides that we have to ride w/ her. It is my excue to ride their rougher-than-normal kiddie coaster!)

Among our friends, Dumbo is one of those guilty pleasures like riding a Moped: it is really fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to catch you on it.

That being said, the first time I rode it was my 5th trip in 2004 during the "This is Love: A Royal Knight to Remember" party. We were dressed in full character costme and makeup, and this was the prime reason that I wanted to ride Dumbo. I think that DW got a decent picture of me in top hat and Inverness piloting the pachyderm.

DD makes it all good and all bad as she loves all of the "hub and spoke" rides. This means that we need to do Dumbo early in the day (like EMH when it is cool and overcast), because otherwise the line is just too darn long. She's ridden all of the others but Astro Orbiters, largely because of some combination of not being open and the weather. Also, not being at ground level means that it doesn't look like the same friendly carnival ride as the other three so she doesn't ask to ride it like she does Triceratops Spin.

I'm not a fan of Country Bear Jamboree, and will only do Hall of Presidents once per new Presidential installation. The first I will do under duress (and haven't done so in quite a while), the other out of some sense of patriotism.

Speaking of Dumbo, is this a false memory, or have I really seen pictures of an old Dumbo ride at DL that was actually on a platform of one of the Castle spires and created the illusion of flying around Sleeping Beauty Castle?

Nope, I don't care for Dole Whips myself. But the citrus swirls at the Sunshine Tree Terrace are superb! :hyper:

I've also never ridden Dumbo or the Teacups (I get mad sick on spinning rides). I did try the rockets a few years ago and almost needed to run to the bathroom as soon as we got off. :bugeyed:

Have never done Goofy's Barnstormer or Triceratops Spin. Or the Green on Mission:Space.

I like Dole Whips with just pineaple. The vanillla soft serve makes it yucky. And the floats are the best.

I don't think we've gone on Small World in 3 or 4 visits -- DH really hates it. But we do visit Carousel of Progress. Guess the song doesn't get to us as much.

Let's see ...... I confess ......

that I have NEVER been on Dumbo,
or the Tea Cups, or Alladin, or the
Astro Orbitor, or the dinosaur one. These never really interested me, and I probably would feel a bit sick.

I tried the Dole Whip because of all the hype. I thought it was

Never had a Dole Whip or a Mickey Bar. I'm not a big one for Ice Cream on a stick.

ohhhh....Dole Whips!! I forgot about those.... my mother always got one and I always insisted it was gross (all the while eating half of it).

My vacation hasn't started until I've hit TM with a Mikey Bar after....

In my extended family you don't earn your parenting 'wings' until you've stood in the Dumbo line!!!

Since it will be DD first time (she'll be 3) this September.... I have yet to earn my 'wings'!!

I have to confess I was not a fan of the Country Bear Jamboree, but it is my mother's favorite so I've "enjoyed" it many many times.

DW loves Dole Whips, but I've boycotted that food area of the park since they closed the Veranda and stopped serving the pineapple teryaki burgers.

DW won't to the Treehouse either. For her, it is the defintion of South Park's "Line Ride."

I still haven't done Blizzard Beach, but that isn't for lack of wanting to do so.

I've never gone miniature golfing on property. That one does escape me as to why I'd want to do this particular activity on property. That being said, Pirate's Cove rocks! (The one with the waterfall and the hole that is inside of the cave under the waterfall.)

I've never done Hoop Dee Do Revue or any incarnation of Diamond Horshoe, and never plan on doing the Hoop Dee Do.

I have been on every ride ( that was open at the time of my trips) at both DL/DCA and WDW parks. Now I don't go on them every trip but have been on them all .

Never had a DoleWhip and have never been in about 75% of the restaurants as I'm not a big eater and am very picky. I make some Ressies for the rest of the family and go get on some rides. I have done a few of the Character meals ,more for DD then myself so I can get some good pictures.

I love the Cheesy rides and think thats what Disney is all about . Most are a great way to take a break during the Hot summer days.I always do IASWAA,HOP and COP when open.

Go ahead and blast me, but I don't like Dole Whip either. It might be better as a Dole Float. I'll try it next time. I've never been to Tom Sawyer Island. I really should go soon, as I hear it will soon be re-organized to get rid of the Tom Sawyer theme. Never done the river boat, either.

2) I've never eaten a Mickey ice cream bar in the parks.

5) I look forward to TTA & COP as much as Splash Mt & Big Thunder Mt!

Yes... the sign at SM says "You may get wet." (I have a pic of my ds making a funny worried-looking face under this sign... it's cute!) We never get to the point where our "unmentionables" are soaked. We're generally totally dry by the time we're at our next attraction. I'm generally not much of a water ride type person (never been to TL or BB), but I love SM.

On Kali, you may get more wet... probably will... I recall pants that were so soaked that they were heavy and falling down... I kept having to hike them up as to not show off my lower "unmentionables," (but those were wet too). I'll do Kali again only if it's a really short wait and a hot day... or a really short wait and I have my poncho on.

Maybe you should ride with me! :clappingh

We have come off almost completely dry from SM in the past... I'd say about 30 minutes of drying time is the most we've ever needed there... generally it's just a friendly little splash with spotty patches of drips on my shirt and in my hair.

I've only been on Kali once... so I guess I can't be a good judge on the average wetness factor there.

One place you WILL get wet (if I dare say this on the Mouseowners board) is the Atlantis ride at Sea World... and the sign does say that!

bigbahamadada

At Kali, I believe the ride sign says:

"You will get wet. You may get soaked." And do they mean it. I rode it twice last week; the first trip got my back, the second soaked my front. I wouldn't have been any more wet if I jump fully clothed into the pool.

But on both rides, there were people in my boat who barely got splashed. Very much luck of the draw.

I must admit, I've been to WDW almost 10 times since 2003, and I have never managed to ride Kali River Rapids. It's not for lack of trying, and the rest of the family has done it, but I just seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and when I'm ready, everyone else wants to move on. I am hoping to remedy this in 2009.

As for the things I am ashamed of:
1. I LOVE the Carousel of Progress, as hokey as it is, and hum the tune to myself on occasion in normal (non-WDW) life; in fact, I am humming it to myself now...
2. I enjoy the Enchanted Tiki Room
3. I really like the Country Bear Jamboree (and sing along quietly)
4. I don't care if I ever get on Space Mountain again
5. I have never done the American Adventure
6. I have never been to the Hall of Presidents
7. I can ride Small World over and over without going insane

Hmmm, what else... Not things I admit to my fellow Financial Analyst colleagues. :bagovermy:cone:

Back to the Carousel of Progress, DD (now 8) found out a few years back that Mom (DW) cannot stand the tune, so learned it as a torture device. Perhaps we can learn it on violin...

I still haven't done Blizzard Beach, but that isn't for lack of wanting to do so.

That's me too. Though I must put in a plug for the mini golf on property. Yeah, it's overpriced. BUT, I've had some of the best memories made at WDW at Winter Summerland on several different occasions. :flowerfor

BTW, Pumpkinboy, I got all your Kali rides in this trip. My D is a daredevil and 39" tall. She misses on all the "big" rides 'cept for Kali. We rode over...and over...and over....and over.........:faint:

Also point to note on Kali and it's cousin in DCA, there's a couple modes -- winter and summer. So, you will NOT get as wet in cooler weather, unless someone runs the ride on the wrong setting. If they get it wrong, this is you --> :brrrrrr:

I agree with the previous post about Space Mtn. being too rough. My neck hurts from jerking around so much, same for Dinosaur.

I have never done Tower of Terror.

Don't really like Mickey bars either, but rest of family does. My DH says we spend at least $200 on ice cream every trip! I actually like the frozen bananas, but DH chipped a tooth on one at Ghearardelli's once!

I enjoy Small World. Usually only once per trip, though.

When my DD2 wanted to ride "pink Dumbo" her older brother, DS9, ran on ahead and saved it for her. He didn't care if he got to ride, he wanted her to be able to ride her favorite one! That was a sweet memory, especially since he just graduated from college on Mother's Day and he's now 21!! Time flies!

Don't think I've had a dole whip, either.

You can also get Dole Whip in the Poly snack bar. It is self serve... so with some clever mechanical engineering... you could get 5X what you get served at MK... i think my last was bigger than a Carmen Miranda hat.

1. I LOVE the Carousel of Progress, as hokey as it is, and hum the tune to myself on occasion in normal (non-WDW) life; in fact, I am humming it to myself now...

I:loveisintDumbo! Long story - but DH and I have very special, sentimental memories about the movie Dumbo and our middle son. When that son was about 9 he and I got on Dumbo together. He was conflicted about going on- he thought maybe he was too old... anyway, we got on the ride- and just as we took off Wishes began- we had no idea that was going to happen- the ride operator kept the ride going for almost 10 minutes- it was so cool. I will never forget how his face lit up in the glow of the fireworks. It was great.

I have never had a Dole Whip- I keep meaning to- but everytime I pass that place in Adventureland, I am not in the mood.

FYI - I just returned from WDW and did indeed tell dh about the self-serve Dole Whips at Poly. He indulged in a good tall one (like everyone else around him) when we finally found them at Captain Jack's, right near the pool, which we also took advantage of.

And I have another confession...
I have been on Disney property a total of 9 days in the last two weeks, and no, I did not try the new Toy Story Mania ride.
I tried... but failed (90 min. wait, no FPs left... went back, grabbed FPs, and the ride broke down). I could have gone back the last day, but stuck with the little ones who wanted MK on their last day.

Well, I am SO glad I'm not the only one!!!! I haven't ridden the magic carpets either. Oh, and I really can't stand to ride the Jungle Ride anymore. If we have newbies with us, I make them go without me!:upsidedow

My wife and I have been lucky to ride on DUMBO in every park in the world! We have not gone on the off the shelf / out of the box rides at California Adventure. We can ride down to Seaside, NJ for the boardwalk if we'd like and get on some of the same rides.

And I will not (although we were considering it in Japan since its said to be one of the best MK rides there) ANY Winnie the Pooh attraction!!! I realize that may be upsetting to some and I know Walt read the books to his daughters BUT......I just can't bring myself to do it.

I'm ready for the beatings to begin.

OK... here is a thought to MAXIMIZE your Dole Whip experience.

1) Fill the cup about 3/4 with Dole Whip... making sure to leave NO air pockets
2) Grab a handfull of plastic knives
3) Stick them into the Dole Whip around the circumfrance of the bowl at a 15 degree outward angle... building a large cone
4) Fill with Dole Whip... once again ensuring no air pockets.
5) Enjoy

We have never riden the paddle boat. We've never seen a line there so you would think that it is a no brainer to go on. The entire family but me have ridden the teacups, that one gets me. Show me a roler coaster and I am all over it with no problems. Our 7 year old rode Rockin' Rollercoaster 4 times in a row (slow line day). The two that I won't ride again are both at Animal Kingdom, the spinning ride in DinoLand and the Dinosaur ride, that thing scared the living daylights out of me. My picture was hilarious!!!!!

I can't tell you how much the Dole Whip "buzz" has humored me. In 1990, when I was a mere 9 yrs old my mom bought a Dole Whip and promised that I could get one before we left the park. It was our last night and by the time we went back to the stand it was closed :crymearivand stayed closed for a few years and trips later....fast forward eighteen yrs later and six visits later, I have yet to get one of those. I am set on getting one on our Sept trip now!

Confessions: have never ridden the Astro Orbitors or Aladdin (probably only rides I've never ridden at WDW); haven't ridden Dumbo or the Speedway ride in over twenty years I bet; have no desire to EVER ride Mission:SPACE again:eek:.

I miss rides like Dumbo though and plan on "reliving my childhood" on our Sept trip!

Now ToT, loved it! However, DD (4 at the time) didn't enjoy. She didn't cry or scream just said at the end of the ride she didn't like it & that she needed to be older to go on it again. Hopefully, she will now-hey she's 5!::fingerscr

My 3 year old (at the time) rode ToT and handled it a lot better than I did- his 9 and 10 year old siblings waited outside for us though- they wouldn't go on it. Oh how we loved to tease them that the baby brother was brave enough- but they weren't. However- now that 3 year old is 5 and wiser than he was back then- I bet he would be too scared to get on it now.

There is something supremely intense about that ride that makes my legs turn to jelly.

We have gotten off topic. Other places close harmless threads when that happens. I love it here!

I did TOT back in 1999... I hated it and it was so obvious (even though I was completely quiet) that my sister touched my hand and said, "only one more drop"..unfortunately the last time she had been on it, it wasn't variable like it is now.. and we had like 3 more drops...ugghhh... I will never do it again!

I did ride something for the first time on my trip this month, the Rocket ride, very nice view of the park. (It actually had a short line for once) I liked the ride itself, but the cramped, hot, elevator ride up and down would deter me from doing it too often.. and when some man said "what if the elevator gets stuck".. well, I wanted to hit him.. that elevator is tiny and very stuffy!

And we skipped Dumbo.. again... the line was way too long as usual.

We only do Dumbo first thing in the morning to avoid too long of a line... mid-day, that's just too long and too hot of a wait for a ride that is also right out there in the sun! Our boys wouldn't let us pass Dumbo without getting a chance, so we made sure we were there early! The only problem is that infamous phrase, "Let's do it again!"

The letdown I have with Mission Space, is my landing on Mars, yet walking out the door to EPCOT. The imagineers really were lax on that aspect of the ride. To me it is the only 'incomplete' WDW attraction. Great start, Great story line, then BLAM rides over, get out!

To be honest, no I haven't. I've been tempted to, so maybe this time around I will get up the courage. Do you know if it is a lot milder than the original? The 5 of us went on Mission Space when it was in the soft opening stage. We all hated it. We went back on when they came up with the "no spin" option... and it was totally different.... no motion sickness at all. Even Debbie does it just fine... and she is a wimp.

The spin side is not the same as it was during the soft opening now. I no longer have a problem doing that anymore.

I suggest giving the no-spin side a try. At that point, you are basically only watching a movie and pushing a few buttons.

Yes thanks to MO, I just found out you can get a dole whip at the Poly and it's self serve! :woohoo:

I am another who has never been on Dumbo. I just don't think I want to wait in a line to ride it. Maybe sometime if I am walking by and there's hardly any line, I'll try it.

There's quite a few rides I haven't ridden, I plan on correcting that with my trip this month, then catching anything I missed and want to ride in Jan!

I have been on Dumbo but don't care if I don't go again. My confession: I like the baby dinosaurs at AK better cause the go up and down and pitch back and forth as well.

I've never been on Stitch....and that's about all I haven't ridden MK. I've been told that there's really no need. I will probably go on it next time, though. Since it's the LAST frontier. That and the Circle of Life Movie and Animator's Studio.

I hadn't been on Splash Mt. in years and years and finally went this most recent trip.

Splash Mountain Tip: The front seat is the one where your shorts get drenched. At the bottom of one of the first hills, the water splashed up and came in through the side cut-out and all over my seat and accompanying clothing. Family members behind me barely got sprinkled. DS in a poncho next to me was fine, too. I also always get the wall-of-water soaking on Kali River Rapids - but have always worn the wimpy poncho on that one.

P.S. Those Dole Whip photos are just CRAZY. Better not take that outside to eat it, kids - you'll be swimming in liquid whip!

Confession: Because I have a young kid, we ride Dumbo on every trip, but basicallly I vicariously have a blast with how much the kid enjoys this dull ride.
My wife and I fight over who is the unlucky one that has to go with the kid.

I rode Dumbo, but it was before they did the refirb on it! Maybe I should try it again, now that it is new and improved!

Glad to have made your day. :)

When I returned the call to the family who "tested" my Dole Whip advice (post receiving the cell phone pics)... the 4 boys were going wild with excitement.

Those were my boys with the dole whip, not something we would usually do, but were so inspired by jims suggestion, we had to try it, the whip was solid, my boys wanted to add a 2nd row of knives, figured they could get a half gallon!!!!!

That is awesome. Your kids are cute- DH and I cracked up looking at the pictures. Your one son is looking at the camera as if he is being forced to do this under duress.

LOL, well neither have I!!! Our kids may have ridden it back when they were kids, but I still haven't! My grandkids didn't want to, so I still haven't had the "pleasure". Does that make us less Disney?:scary:

OK, confession time:

Have not seen American Adventure

Have not viewed Beauty and the Beast

Have not partaken of the Canada movie (and we are from Canada - :hammer:)

Have not received the wisdom of the Magic of Disney Animation

Ah, yes, every time I try for Dinosaur it is broken :burningma

Cheers
