My source had a chance to tour the models for Grand Californian. Unfortunately, no pictures yet. I forgot to equip my source with secret cameras.

So, here is the scoop.

No major changes between the standard Grand Californian room and the studios.

With the 1 br, here is the set up.

The 1br sleeps 5 people and has 2 bathrooms just like AKV. In the living room portion the sleeper sofa will sleep 2 people and 1 person will be able to sleep on the murphy bed.

One bathroom will have the full glass shower as well as bathtub. The second will just be the shower.

The kitchen / dining set up has the now standard built in bench and table. Across from that is an island, marble countertops (I need to double check that it's marble and not granite. Source was really tired when I got thisinfo.) Silver fridge & stove.

Source said it seems like they made a lot of upgrades here.

Source also said no idea on point charts yet and to expect a very expensive buy in cost.

I would think that IF in fact they prices are going up... DVC would be better served to raise the point value rather than the cost/point.

We are hoping to see the models at the DVC Member event this month. Are you going?

That is what seems to be happening. Apparently, the point per night will be much higher, thus creating a much higher buy in cost if you want to stat a week, etc.

Yes, I am planning on attending.

It seems to me that there has to be some sort of "tipping point" where neither the cost per point nor the points per night can be too far out of line with other DVC resorts. For example, if the points cost too much more, folks may opt to buy cheaper points at SSR or AKV, and take their chances at the 7 month booking window. And, again, if the points per night are too much higher, potential buyers could do the same. The idea is to sell units at GCV -- if it's too out of line, people will buy elsewhere for less and take their chances. Why buy or use expensive points when cheaper points will do?

Sure, there will always be some folks who will buy regardless. But the higher you go, the smaller that group becomes, it seems to me. Go too high and you shoot your sales in the foot!

That's why I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude. If the points cost too much, forget it -- I'll take my chance at 7 months. And if the points-per-night are too high -- even if the points cost the same as elsewhere -- I'll book when I can get the chance using the points I already have. Also, if the minimum buy-in is too high, forget it. I'm not sure what "too high" is at this point. But when I see the point charts I believe it will become clearer.

Does anyone know when the models will be open to the public for viewing? We will be in Disneyland in August (staying at both GCH and PP on points), and I would love to see the models while we are there.

When I called the preview center today I was told that in 2 to 3 weeks they expect them to be open.

Give me a call after your trip to the DVC get together tonight. Debbie and I were just seated at the wedding this afternoon when you called. Luckily, I had my phone on vibrate. Tonight will be the rowdy reception so it should be easier to answer. :)

I am really hoping that your guide was wrong and they have the preview center open. TTYL.
