View Full Version : Oh the horror a year without WDW! What to Do?

OK, I'm being roped into visiting my sister in Boulder, CO in August '06. Yeah, yeah, I want to, haven't been there in a few years and I miss her. She is the god-mother of DD, 11, and DS, 8, she moved into a fab new house on a lake, Boulder is beautiful, yatta, yatta,

But if we go we won't be going to WDW! Ugh! DW and I are hemming and hawing over this.

So my question to you experienced Members is, how best to use the points in '06?

1) Go but book a week in an II out there, (and if so which ones have you been to that you recommend in August with kids.)

2) Bank the points and do a super vaca in '07?

3) Tell big sister to meet us at BCV and skip Boulder all together?

4) Have a Yuengling, vote Rash for President, and hope this all goes away very soon.

I went with 2, but my goodness 4 was close ;)

If you coul dget her to meet you at BCV, that'd be great, but I'm sure she'd like you to see her new home.

I dont know. A year without WDW would drive me bananas. If she'll meet you ask her to meet you at BCV. If not tell her to come and see you when you get back from WDW :dancingba

I don't see how you could go wrong with #4! :D

But, is it a possibility since you'll be in CO that you could continue on to DL and use some points for a 3/4 day visit there?

Well, I picked #2 but I did really like convert's idea about DL and you would be visiting for the 50th :bouncingm That might still leave enough points for a blowout vaca in 07' :rockband:

Well, since I live in Colorado, I'm somewhat prejudiced.
I would definitely visit your sister and enjoy...summers here are awesome.
I would bank most of your points for an awesome 2007 vacation...if you think that you could get off a huge amount of time to use them. I wouldn't waste points on accommodations out here, because you can rent direct for cheaper.
I would consider renting out half of the 2006 points (instead of banking) and using the profit to take a quick trip from Philly to MCO when you can get an el cheapo Southwest fare.

In other words....zenbu shitai (do it all!)

What we do is have a Disney party every few months and get the kids dressed up in Disney costumes and put on past trip videos and have a Disney inspired meal. That really helps pass the time by when we don't have a trip planned.

UPDATE...
First, a big thanks for your thoughts. I've run all your suggestions by the fam and we are down to two choices.

The kids are REALLY, really going to miss HHI this summer if we go to Boulder, they looked so dejected at the thought. But then I offered a trip to DL and that sure perked them up. And then I suggested just Boulder and having their aunt join us in HHI in 07 and that really, really perked them up.

So the final choises are:

1) Bank 2006, go to Boulder to see the big sister, and invite big sister to join us in HHI in 07 using the points to get a 2 bdr or grand villa.

2) Use the 2006 points for DL, go see big sis in Boulder and resume normal HHI vacation time in 07. (still inviting big sis to join in '07 but she's on her own for booking a room.)

Oh, and it's a given that the third choice will always be to have a Yuengling and VOTERASH 2008.

Here's the latest...

Met up with big sis while she was east for a conference.

Looks like we're going to Colorado for 10-14 days and skipping all DVC trips for 2006.

Yeah, I know, you can feel my pain.

Kids are REALLY excited to go west though openly heartbroken at not going to HHI next year.

Bright side is I know we'll have a blast in CO and my sister will most likely join us in HHI in 07, she's never been there. I'll bank all the points and try to swing a GV for all of us.
