Another Banking Question

I want to make sure I know exactly how timing affects things. The short question: Do points have to be banked before a reservation is made in order for them to be used?

We expect to have 68 points to bank into our next use year (February '09). I was thinking that I would wait until the last minute to bank them (September '08), just in case. However, in July we'll be making reservations for next June. If I don't bank until September, will they not use the 08 points for that trip, necessitating that they be used by January 2010? Since I'm not sure if we'll take a second trip in 09, either, I don't want to end up with excess point that can't be banked or used....

Or, when you actually make the trip, will they use the oldest points first, regardless of when they were actually made available for that trip?

Make the ressie using next year's points if you want. When you call in September to bank this year's unused points, ask them to apply all 68 to the ressie you will make in July with your '09 points and then they will release the '09 points back into your account
