OK, Here's what we want to do, Is this doable?

December 2009 we get 100 points

Want to use 48 points in May 2009
& bank 52 points to use in 2010

In October 2010 we want to use 145 points
Will have 52 points banked & will need to borrow 93 points from December 2010 allotment.
Banking 7 remaining points.

Thanks for any help. We just bought into SSR & are waiting to close, So we know nothing

You shouldn't need to bank the 52 points. They are usable from 12/09 - 12/10, and if you bank them, you won't be able to use them until after 12/10.

You can use the 52 pts from 12/09 and borrow from your 12/10 allotment to complete your 10/10 ressie.

Again, do NOT bank your 52 points from 12/09, or you won't be able to use them until 12/10.

And remember, UY does not determine when you can make reservations.

So for your May 09 reservations, you can book in June 08 for your home resort (11 month window) and October 08 for any other DVC resort (7 month window).

Then you will book your October 09 reservation in November 08 at your home resort (11 month window) or February 09 at other DVC resoirts (7 month window).

The reason that I reiterate that is I used to wait until the points got deposited to make my reservations. But that is a mistake. The points only have to be available at the time that you make your reservations.

Welcome! (and where in Texas are you from?)

DebHi Deb:

Since you seem to have a December UY, your allocated (basic points, neither banked, borrowed or transfered) DEC 2009 UY points will become available December 1st 2009, and expire :bugeyed: November 30, 2010, unless you use, bank, transfer, trade or borrow them. So if you have no Dec 2008 UY points left (good for ressies from Dec 1, 2008 through Nov. 30, 2009) you would need to borrow to book your May 2009 vacation,

BUT!!!!

If you just purchased, IIRC, after closing, you will receive your current UY (December 2007) points (100), and then in December 2008, you will receive your 2008 UY 100 points, and so on.

If that is correct, you'll need to use your first 100 points (Dec 2007 UY-'current' UY) points by November 30, 2008, or Bank them by July 31st (8 month banking deadline). If you bank them you will receive 200 SSR points December 1st, 2008, (100 Allocated December 2008 UY points and your banked 100 December 2007 UY points) which you must use by November 30, 2009, this would be a great time to use your banked 2007 points (for your May 2009 vacation) as banked points can not be banked again, borrowed from or transferred. You can also bank your new Dec 2008 UY points (100 points that came in on December 1, 2008) into your December 2009 UY.

UY really is not that complex, it just tells you when plain points (allocated points) become available, and when (if not manipulated) expire. Having said that, Dec. UY seem to confuse Newbies the most, as they are really valid for the next calendar year (11/12th of the Dec 2007 UY will be in calendar year 2008)

You can manipulate your points to make them 'work' for more than the 12 month allocated lifespan.

1) You can borrow allocated points into a UY one year earlier, Thus you can borrow 2009 points into UY 2008, or UY 2008 points into your Dec 2007 UY (Which is your current UY, BTW).

2) You can bank allocated points into the next UY, thus you can save your Dec 2007 UY points (your current UY) and convert them into BANKED Dec 2008 UY points, that will now be usable from Dec 1, 2008 until November 30, 2009.

3) You can transfer current allocated UY points to another Owner, or even transfer the next UY points to a current member.

4) You can trade points for an II stay.

5) You can use points to purchase a DCL cruise.

6) You can stay at Disney Hotels on points (Resorts with no attached DVC only)

7) You can rent points.

Please note banked, borrowed or transferred points can not be rebanked, reborrowed or re-transferred, However, transferred points can be banked....)

Read this 2 or 3 times, I hope it helps!

-Tony

Thanks Everyone.
We do have December use year, We bought resale & our first points will come December 2009. Thanks for clearing up the part about not banking the points that I want to use in October, That would have really messed us up.
Once we close will they send me charts to help me along the way?

We would love to join you for a Disney persons lunch!

My office is in West Fort Worth at Vickery and Hulen. We actually live in Bedford now. My DH works in North Dallas so this is about half way for us. Neither of us mind driving so its not a problem to meet up any place in the metroplex.
