NEWS: DVC CM Discount to Be Reduced

Sources (LC, gb, etc.) indicate that effective July 1, 2008, DVC will reduce the cast member discount for DVC purchases from 25% to 15%.

Might this be in anticipation of KTR sales????

Out of curiosity does this also include the Disney stores? Do employees also get a discount or is it just cm's in the park? How long do you have to work to be eligible for the discount?

I was told 90 days of employment before becoming eligible.

I think that Disney stores were sold off... but now being purchased back. Someone will have better info than me.

The Disney store were sold a few years back to the Children's Place, which recently filed for chapter 11 for the Disney Store's. I believe there is a thread on here somewhere that states that Disney is in fact looking to buy back the stores. Also, does anyone know if the discounts apply to "seasonal" workers for disney? I heard from a friend that worked at disney about 10 years ago that "seasonal"workers that worked at least 90 days during that season were entitled to the 25% (now 15%?) discount. Anyone know for sure?

I think folks are confusing apples and oranges... The OP is about CM disounts specifically for buying into DVC. Not for CM discounts everywhere else...

Yes, Disney purchased back the Disney Stores, and are closing about 1/3 of them. They think the "interim" owner over-developed the number of stores and took away some of the uniqueness of the product.

The 25% changing to 15% isnt a rumor, it is a fact. It is not going away entirely.

A half page DVC ad on the back of the latest issue of Eyes and Ears encourages everyone to act fast and get in on the extra 10% savings until 6/30/08. No mention of course what happens then, but I think we can all guess...

A number of CM's are bemoaning the fact that the Sandwich Tower will not be available before June 30.

First week in July is the current target date.... likely around July 4 weekend. However, these dates are not set in stone so....... keep your fingers crossed!!
