When our son goes on the Pirate Cruise, is there any requirement that we stay within a certain proximity in case of emergency? Do they give you pagers or any other sort of notification device in case they need to get a hold of the parents?

I'm guessing the answer to both of these is 'no', but thought I would ask anyway.

Thanks.

I don't think you're allowed to leave the state.

LOL KNWVIKING!

Yes they do give you a pager. We actually just hung around the resort when DS did his Pirate & Albatross cruises. The CM's didn't say anything about leaving the area, just told the parents to have a good time and be back by whatever time they were due to return.

I know some of the parents went to the MK with younger kids.

DH and I (and DD1) went to the Grand Floridian cafe and ate Brunch while we waited on the girls. I think we strolled thru the gift shops and just "killed" time until time for them to return. We did walk out to the pier and watch them come back in from their cruise. You could hear them singing and doing their pirate growl as the boat came back toward the GF. Basically they were handed their "lunch" when they got off the boat. We walked back and sat at an outside table by the GF cafe and let them eat their sack lunch. If I wouldn't of had the 1 year old, I would have tried to make myself a spa appointment while they were out on the boat. If I remember right they were replacing the carpet in the GF lobby, and DH and I sat around and watched them (we are entertained so easily!:D ).

There is no specific requirement - they do make you sign waivers including a medical treatment clause waiver

The pagers they give are traditional pagers so they probably have a very decent communications range (as opposed to those restaurant thing pagers for example)

When our crew did the cruise, SIL and I strolled around GF, chatted with the CM at the DVC station (about the pending storm named Charley brewing out at sea, which SURELY wouldn't become a hurricane and hit us.... so much for our intuition!) We then ate a great brunch at the GF Cafe'. We didn't feel like going anywhere namely because we didn't want to have to watch a clock and sprint back. The time goes QUICK. They didn't really leave on time (takes a while boarding them, giving instructions, etc., and we stuck around until they were well on their way), and you really ought to be there when they come back to "port" singing their pirate song - very cute.

Thanks for all of the info.

Our son is doing the Albacore Cruise out of the Yacht Club. I figure we'll either be at Epcot or perhaps at the BWV pool, weather permitting. A quick trip to DTD is a remote possibilty, but we have a car so it's a pretty easy trip.

KNWVIKING: If we do decide to leave the state, I'll just give them your phone number "in case of emergency." ;)
