View Full Version : Someone please explain Ebay for me???

Ok, I have a question about the stupid auction I "won" on Ebay. (If you're interested feel free to read my post on the Nothing thread LOL)

As soon as I "won" last night, I paid through PayPal. I received the receipt right afterwards. Haven't heard from the seller, but I don't think that is unusual.

What does have me a little concerned is that she (I think the person is a "she", not sure) has the same exact item for auction again. Same description, Same pictures etc. It was started last night right before the end time of the first auction.

If you read the description, it seems like this was the only item of this stroller she was auctioning. She does have 100% positive feedback with almost 1500 replies. From the auction I won, she probably made more money than she bought it for (b/c of my stupidity LOL).

I sent her an email asking her if everything was ok a few minutes ago. I explained this was my first time etc and apologized for questioning her about it.

So should I be a little concerned that for some reason the auction didn't go through? (which, as long as I got my credit back through Paypal, would not be such a bad thing either :innocent: ) Maybe I'm just really paranoid...

The item number of the new auction is 7744754593 if you want to take a look at the description :)

It doesn't sound like you need to worry. MAny poeple buy items in bulk and then auction them off one at a time. If you think there's just one, you may go a little higher than if you knew you could try again.

I'm not an ebay expert by any stretch of the imagination, but quite often you do see the EXACT same items on many succesive bids. The seller probably had/has several of the same item and as soon as one ends, simply starts a new one.

WARNING THE FOLLOWING IS SATIRE, worse yet it is greenbanned's style of satire, which by definition is immature and will definetly insult/anger someone. You accept these risks, and agree to these terms by reading any further in this reply. Otherwise, just scroll down!

I agree. Many people buy used, returned, recalled, unsafe and/or repaired items for a great discount, then clean them up and list them on eBay. Smart sellers, never list more than one of the same items at a time, hoping that some idiot would get into a bidding war for their 'new' item.

But if they have been very lucky, with say a newbie eBayer being suckered in by a shill, in a bidding war, then they immediately (as soon as the auction has ended) list another of these 'rare-super deals', hoping to catch another. As you can see, these sellers's ethics and morals may come into question, but certainly not by me!

Hope this helps you feel better!

In all truth, I love Stimpy, and I'm just doing my part to make her feel better about the GREAT deal (even without shipping costs, and don't forget the insurance) she got on eBay. Federal Laws require me to point out, that this post did *NOT* involve, nor was it instigated by Mr. Stimpy. And no, Stimpy is not a fool, idiot or any of the other non-flattering terms I used in my above attempt at satire! Ya know with all of these warnings and explanations, perhaps the original reply wasn't that funny to begin with, but I'm posting it hoping someone will tell me how they really feel.

Lastly a quote from Mr. Spock, ST-TOS, "Captain, nothing sells for less than it is worth on eBay!"

You are hoarding the blue hooch again. :tsktsk:

Stimpy,

I think you're cool on this deal. Let us know how it turns out!

I have sold on Ebay before and very often use EXACTLY the same ad if I have multiples of something. (selling them at the same time competes with yourself and when you get people competing with each other..well - you can see what might happen eh Stimpy? lol) I agree with nono - you are good here.

Sounds ok to me too. Just FYI for future bids:
Bid at the very last minute
Always shop around on the internet before bidding - very frequently I've found things cheaper or with free shipping.
Never buy from someone with less than 97% Positive Feedback (sounds harsh - but it has saved me a lot of grief, and the few times I have - I was burned)
When you see someone with huge feedback numbers - you should probably go up to 99%.
If the seller has an online store - check it out as well. I just bought from someone at the e-bay shipping quote, with the store price, and saved about $7....
And hey - you gotta be burned once or twice on E-Bay! That makes you official - right?

I feel a little better about all this today. The seller emailed me back and explained, like lllovell, that she usually has a few of the same item and when the auction ends she just hits a "sell similiar" button (or something to that effect) and it just copies all the information over.

The stroller was already Fedex-ed ( :veryconfu I don't think that's a real word LOL) and I have the tracking number.

The only thing that really concerned me was that in the item description she mentioned that the stroller was only taken out of the box for pictures. Since it's the same exact pictures, I know she isn't taking them ALL out of the box. With the price I (over)paid...again, my fault completely.....I hope she atleast sends one that was not taken out of the box already :)

Dh...who teased me to no end and still throws a couple zingers my way....is now sending me links for stuff he wants from Ebay! (He's less computer literate than I am!)

And I was watching an auction for the same stroller and someone else paid almost as much as I did for it with more shipping charges....so I don't feel as dumb as I did about myself. :o

Thanks for all the advice and support!

Stimpy,

Ya know I love ya right?

Let me be the first to tell you, that 'someone else' bidding was you!

You were actually bidding against yourself for the same item!

I let you decide how to feel now!!

Ok, I know it wasn't me this time! LOL

I meant it was for another auction by another seller for the same product (except different color)....an auction I didn't even bid on. I just had it in the "Items I'm watching" thingie.

And I am watching the new auction the seller I "won" from is having for the same stroller also....I just love torturing myself
