Ok, I was one of those avid watchers of the codes and rates board because I have an AP and well no one wants to pay rack rate if we can avoid it.

I realize now that I am so happy I don't have to worry about that anymore :) Sure maybe now and again if I want a Friday or Saturday stay and I don't have enough points. But I realized how nice it is not to have to watch that so much, be on the phone at 7am for an AP rate, or better yet not have to deal with their best rate program.

Ahhh, the joys of DVC :)

I am with you on that one. I would be constantly checking to see if a new code came out or rate. This trip we are splitting a stay at OKW and the Poly and the Poly is not on points. This trip was paid for before I became DVC. I have never stayed at the Poly and have really wanted to try it. This will be my last time staying anywhere not on points.

We still go often over weekends and love staying on site. I am not sure with the new Best Rate program how that is going to effect our weekend trips. (A spring training game, Star Wars Weekends, Halloween party, etc - we tend to do all of those on short trips - not long DVC trips).

It does rock not having to worry about it for the most part though! :bluebloun If hubby had more vacation, I would buy more points in a heartbeat!

I am very happy about that added benefit too. I see all the hand wringing and stressing on the boards about the codes, and just think "Ahh, I don't have to worry about that." Give me more time to grab a Yuengling.

We are so glad not to have that problem. Everytime I have seen posts with people looking for codes and rates I am so glad not to have to be one of them.

I was never really one of those code or rate watchers. I'm just happy to have a huge 2BR villa for about what the price of one room at a moderate would be.

I miss it. Not most of the time... but when I see some of the great deals... geez free dining!! Wow!

But like ripleysmom said, those sweet 2 bedroom villas are such a deal who can complain

I know, I go both ways. I loved getting a great deal, but I could probably have gotten a part time job and pais the difference for the time I spent looking for them. It's nice to not have to do that anymore!

Yes, Yes, Yes.

I was just talking about this very subject with my wife over the weekend. It is just another great thing about our DVC membership.

The code frenzy really used to scare me - it was like an obsession and I couldn't read the posts because people would be sooooo concerned about missing a code.

Even though I miss the old AP program, the cash discount on DVC for weekends etc will still work for me. I'll just be more creative in planning my travel, and eventually add on to my little contract.....

I think if I had to watch codes all the time, I'd go nuts!

We never used codes for our stays but some people got so irate that Disney has stiffed them with no codes oh how could they do that how are we ever going to stay at the Poly without a code I can't afford that LOL. I laugh at those people especially when they comment on how many times they go to Disney and how much they spend. I commented once about joining DVC and wow what a mistake that was it was like I was trapped in a cage full of hungy lions AKA the anti DVC guests LOL.

I agree with Bavaria! In spring of 2004, when I was planning our first trip to WDW in years, the codes and so forth scared me. In my research, I found mousesavers which led me to a site comparing costs of DVC, which led me to the Disboards...then lo and behold, I found Tom's sponsor site :doublekis

I skipped codes and went straight to DVC :goodvibes

I don't miss the code watching either. I really used to obsess (keep a log book and all). I did secure some great rates over the years. The best one that comes to mind is the Contemp for $144/night (then got upgraded to 14th floor concierge) in 1998. :bouncings
Now I just enjoy deciding on how we're gonna use our points......
