View Full Version : BCV wait list and ROFR

Having seen several threads about the potentially long wait for BCV through Disney, I was wondering why they aren't using ROFR to collect all the points they can?
Is it specific UY or what? Is the profit margin not there?
Or is it that there aren't really enough people on the wait list to make it worth the effort?

We are in the estopple part of purchasing at BCV through resale, and we wondered the same thing.
Disney told us there was a year wait for BCV, but we had a contract from a reseller in 3 days. Had we not known about the resale market, we would probably have bought at AKL or SSR thinking that was our only option without a long wait.
My theory is that Disney wants to sell out the new DVC resorts first, so they don't want to make it easy for potential buyers to buy at BCV instead, even if they are just adding on.

I can understand that logic, but on the other hand, if they have someone that is adamant about buying BCV, or whatever, you would think they would want to accommodate the potential buyer.
I have seen it stated that it doesn't make DVC enough profit to pickup resales to use for direct purchasers.
I think the real answer of some combination of those two reasons.

Disney also buys contracts directly back from Owners, if you ask them. They give you a one time offer (no haggling) and IIRC it is around $54.00 per point. I would assume, if they were able to buy back any BCV at $54, and then resell at $96.00 (or whatever it is right now), that even a giant corporation like Disney can make a profit.
That said, I believe Disney wants its salesforce to concentrate on current resorts, and only buys back BCV to sustain ROFR levels.
JMHO.

Yeah, I had forgotten about that.
So I guess the UYs at BCV that don't have wait lists are the ones currently in inventory, huh?

Most likely.
I had waitlists for December and September UY's at BCV. It took just shy of 11 months for Dec., the other never materialized. I didn't cancel it, but Disney did when I matched for December. I fussed and they supposedly reinstated September (in the same wait list position) but in 2 years it name came in.

ETA, after my nearly 11 month wait, only 73 points were available, ;) I took 'em all! Also, you get price protection for one price increase. So if while on the waitinglist, the sale price rises, you get the price in effect when you signed up, unless there are 2 ormore price increases during your wait, then you get one increase removed (the latest one). No price increases during your wait? You get the current price.....
