$78 per point for SSR should make owners of that resort VERY nervous. That was for a 100 point contract no less.

Congrats to the OP on a fine deal!

We got a good price because the seller has a trip booked & we will have to wait till October to close, & 12/09 to get points for us to use. They asked for $80.00 a point & we offered $78.00. Good deal for us:tongue:

That makes it a little different. Not such a good deal anymore when you factor in that you are pre-paying for points. 14 months early actually.

So, being the investemnt guy that I am lets put some numbers on this to see how good this deal actually is. I have tax free earning 5.15% so I'll use that as my number. 100 points at $78 equals $7800. $7800 times 5.15% equals $401.70you lost paying early. So in actuality you paid a minimum of $82 for those points with usage 14 months later.

This is still a good deal but not phenominal. At least the sky isn't falling on SSR, yet.

Congratualtions again and WELCOME HOME!!!!!!

to be fair, since deb isn't closing until at least october we would have to see what is available then to make an accurate assessment of her opportunity cost. i would love for interest rates to go up again but with an election a month later who really knows.

you are right, however, that she has to wait over a year to get her points, but since she is having her MF covered really her situation is no different than it otherwise would have been given her UY.

wait, let me clean my ears. did you just say "good deal" and refer to SSR at the same time ??? :)

Sure did. SSR is now my third choice for a WDW DVC stay. It catipulted up from last to third thanks to my last stay there.

Sounds good. After my post I reviewed lsiting at multiple Resale Co.'s and after further review I think your deal is even better than I thought. Anything of 100 points or lower appears to be selling for $85 give or take. Sammlwer contarcts fetch a higher price, resale.

So, enjoy your future trips.

Speaking of deals....... I bought 2400 Visa stock shares at the IPO price of $44 per share. I sold today for $82 per share!!!!!! $91,200 made in just over 30 days!!!!!! Not a bad months work.... of couse Uncle Sam will be calling but that is a deal worth celebrating!!!!:ale::cheers2:

I say put all of the financial stuff and math olympics on the side and just bask in the glory of your new ownership at SSR.

Thank you Azeno,
For sure & that's just what we are doing.. actually I am surprised about all the questions about how much money we paid.. I usually don't talk about that info..

Although we have never stayed at SSR we really like the look of it & love that it is close to DTD. I am wondering about the negative comments about SSR.. Whats the deal with that???? Can anyone enlighten me????

I think it may break down to just preferences. With so many DVC resorts to choose, there is bound to be one that resonants better for a given family, whether it's because of a past visit, or a certain amenity that may not be present at another resort. Which is really one of the high points of the DVC program, provided that you are not looking to stay during a high demand period, you have the opportunity to experience all of the DVC resorts using your SSR points.

As for SSR, this is our home resort and we absolutely love it. Since joinging DVC a little over a year ago, we have stayed at SSR several times in studios, one-bedroom and a three-bedroom villa. We've also stayed in a studio at OKW only once so I personnaly dont have a vast frame of reference to gauge all of the DVC resorts. But, over the past thrirty years we have stayed at each of the Disney resorts on a cash basis and really don't see any tangible issues with SSR.

Again, I think it will break down to your own personal preferences.

Welcome once again, and congratulations, I'm sure that you will enjoy your visits to SSR.

Sorry about that. Resale prices are of interest to others looking to buy/sell, so that is where my curiosity lies. I'm looking to sell very soon so any info. is helpful.

As for the issues with SSR, I'll state them the best I can. It currently stands as my third choice for a DVC stay. Issues people have with this resort seem to lie in a few areas.

1) Size of the resort. This may be one case where bigger isn't better. ;) It is very spread out and depending where you end up it could feel very isolated from the main areas of the resort. You can't book a certain area either so some will be stuck in the bad areas and it could be you.

2) Themeing. The lack of a distinct theme is a problem for some. I'm originally from Saratoga Springs and to this day I can't figure out themeing a Disney Resort around a tiny town of 25,000 in the booon docks, upstate NY. SSR seems very vanilla to many.

3) Location. Disney is about the parks/activity and SSR has no direct theme park ties. You can walk/boat to DTD but not to any parks. This is an issue to the fans of BCV/BWV who have direct access to TWO parks. An issue also for VWL fans who can boat to MK. Soon will be an issue with CRV owners.

4) Lack of service. No room service here and you'll be lucky to get a bellboy to help with your bags. SSR is a do it yourself type of condo resort. Fans of BCV/BWV/VWL who like having Deluxe services like room service have issues with this.

5) Size again. Why own there? People have stated that there truly is no reason to own there. Even if you love it, you can book a room there anytime as it is huge. The Home Resort priroity is a true reason to own someplace and becasue of SSR's size it isn't necessary to own there. People feel you'd be better off owning one of the smaller high demand resorts and staying at SSR when you wanted to.

Well, this sums up the issues I've seen with SSR. Go and enjoy and see for yourself. These issues are not shared by evryone for sure. They represent some of the negatives I've seeen about SSR.

Thanks Dave for your info.
We usually vacation off season & hopefully we will be able to get a room in the area of the main buildings. I a disabled & usually can request something closer & ground floor.
We like the location because we love going to DTD at night & we will be close to home at the end of the evening.
Everyone has different preferences & being older with no kids this is a great fit for us. We do plan on trying BC & BW with some of our points too, One never knows, We just may end up buying into another resort down the road..
