Do to increased sightings of banned DISsers,I have resurrected an oldie but goodie greenban POLL: Have you be banned from the DIS?

Feel free to add any info, but no slamming, flamming or personal attacks, we just don't play that way here at MOs!!!!

NOTE: CHOICE one should read YES, not s!!!!!

I voted "What's The Dis" - - it was the closest I could get to reality!
Well - I used t post there, and was introduced to this site by another poster. I was never banned - but decided for myself that the atmosphere there was wat too hostile and unfriendly for my taste - so I don't go over there anymore.

Nope and I've been there since 2003. I know to stay out of their DVC section. :brrrrrr:

I was only banned once....I now have a stealth account there with a different e-mail address and IP address, but I rarely post there.

In fact, I should post a few juicy messages there to see if I can join the multiple DIS banned club.

Perhaps we need pins to show off.

Sad thing is that I never broke the rules, but they lost a very active poster. Oh well, I like it here much better and it is hard to be active on multiple forums.

I was proud to get my banning the other day. I had pretty much stopped posting there after the big DVC community board death of '05.

After Alex made one of the all time biggest and most hilarious screw ups, I had to get banned.

What have people done to get banned?

A lot of posters were banned just for posting on a board that the Dis Mods don't like. When people started to question why the mods would do that, they got banned too. One poster got banned just for mentioning the bannings on her blog. Once things continued to spiral out of control, people started to intentionally get banned to show their support. For example, they would post the list of all who got banned, knowing they would get banned for it.

I have not been banned but I am very unhappy with what is going on at the DIS right now. I never knew what happened with you and the others or I would have been just as upset then. At this point I could care less if I get banned. I am posting on the two chat threads I was involved in because the person that started them doesn't want us to let them die. Other than that I am not posting at all. What they have done smells very bad!

The DIS ran off some of the best parts of their board, especially when they ran off you Tony. I really don't know how I missed out on this board all this time. To tell the truth I found it by doing a search for greenban.

When I need an environment like that it's easier attending a Philly sporting event.

Why don't you list your former Dis IDs while your at it. Mine were:

Rock Bottom Sound
Spidey 7

I think I'm actually missing a few but those were the ones I can remember. I too was banned, I'm guessing for not having the same political views as the mods. I never broke the rules, never got a warning just a ban. It always seemed to occur right after I made some negative comments about the Clintons. Like it was synonymous with dissing the Pope or something.

I actually found MouseOwners before the Dis!!! When someone mentioned the Dis to me I surfed around, posted very little...I really cannot get over the different atmosphere between the two. The Dis has a more commercial and business like atmosphere. Everyone here is like neighbors! Thanks for welcoming me into your community!

What...??? There's another DVC fan website??? Really...??? :)

I was posting over on ********, maintaining the ROFR thread for a while and one day a curiously repulsive tooth-driller took exception to a statement I made. I said nothing wrong...only posted my opinions on the resale market.

Well, public postings and private messages started arriving in my inbox over there, hinting at how I should keep my opinions to myself. I knew right there my days were numbered, as the threats of points or double-secret probation started. So I left of my own accord and found MouseOwners.

Starting to post here was the best move I ever made!

Delaware Mike

Edited to add: Just for giggles, I tried my ID over there and it still works. But every one of my posts have been deleted. Funny....older posts from others are still there, but mine are gone. ...interesting.

Well, my double secret probation seems to have ended. I can go back to my screenname and see my violation tally.

Apparently, they've decided I can post again. Don't really want to and if I did, I will end up banned.

Just to update: I still am not banned...yet. I did recently get another 10 points on September 1st. Got into a email exchange with one angry dentist, but on all my replies I copied all the other board moderators to keep the playing field level. Ultimately, I won the discussion, my 10 points stayed and the thread do not get deleted, but did get closed the next day for no reason (besides an in your face, bruised ego).

So for the year, I have 4 warnings and 40 points!

I heard that what Tony did was soooo awful that if you even mention his name you get points.
I also heard they're running a special promotion, all you have to do is agree with any of Tony's opinions and you get a Free Tooth drilling (Anesthesia unavailable, filling optional at extreme cost)

I voted what's the DIS. MO is Darwin's theory at work.

Now a few months ago, I posted "Ok, got my flame suit on, yada yada......" really threw it out there. Well nothin. I thought for sure I would get something. I guess it all depends on what day of the month it is......:jawdroppi

I have never been banned [yet :innocent:]. I understand how people who have been banned from a forum for what they feel were improper reasons would be upset at that forum.

However, I am continually surprised at the need for some people to constantly bash another board, including their moderators.

I respect the fact that many people who post here on MouseOwners also visit and post on other sites. I think the constant bashing of another Disney forum might make some of these posters feel uncomfortable in their visits here due to open abuse or criticism of other forums. Therefore, I refuse to join in bashing other forums. Of course, it's OK to bash SSR (just kidding :fresh:).

1) Thanks for the two cents! In this economy, I'll gladdly take them, got 2 more ? ;)

2) I personally really enjoy picking on WMD. I get tons of personal pleasure from it. Since I stopped kicking the dog (we really don't have one), Drinking, Stealing, and Red Bull shots, it's my one remaining vice. I don't plan on giving it up, soon if ever.

As far as relates to scaring off the Noobs, the tone, attacks and mysterious 'vanishings' at various other unamed sites, IMHO would be much more disinviting (pun not intended). YMMV!

Mike - you totally misunderstand us. We aren't "upset" that we've been banned. As far as I can tell, we are all happy about it.

And we aren't necessarily bashing the Dentist (he's a Webmaster, right, not a Moderator) we are mocking the absurdity of a grown man throwing temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way and branding people with points and permanent bans. You may like it over there, but you've got to admit his behavior is deserving of mockery, no?

Oh, and for the person who asked what it takes to get banned, here's the post that did me in:

Answering a questions about banfest 2008, I replied

In a nutshell...

1) Well over a hundred folks have received permanent bans from the DIS in the last 6 weeks. Many of these were long time posters with thousands of posts. If you haven't heard from or seen posts from some of your friends lately, there's a good chance they got the permanent ban.

2) Some of the folks were banned for posting on some other internet baord - where folks often make fun of the DIS and posters here. Note that they weren't banned for attacking the DIS - they were banned for just being on that board. DIS posters aren't allowed to go to that site.

3) Many of the banned didn't post on that site - they were banned for complaining about the bannings. There were many threads starting here asking about the bannings, asking questions and complaining. Those threads were almost all poofed (not just locked, but made to disappear) and folks who participated often found themselves permanently banned.

4) The powers that be clearly don't walk folks talking about what happened, what the rules are regrading banning, or asking questions. Some folks have suggested asking questions via PM rather than public posts. That is also risky. Many folks reported being banned right after PM's with questions.

Wow! A hundred people?! I think it's so sad to think there are that many being banned from any site, I don't care which one. I think my post was about par for the course for the folks that got banned. You can decide for yourself I "deserved to be banned".

After thinking about what I wrote earlier, I was too easy on the DIS Webmasters. They deserve to be bashed. While banfest was pretty much a joke to folks like me, there were a number of people who looked at the DIS as their social group. They had genuine friendships that extended beyond discussions of fastpasses and dining plans. When the bans starting raining down, folks were truly hurt and crying over lost friends. The capricious actions of the webmasters, and their paranoid attempts to erase all record of their actions, shouldn't just be mocked; it deserves to be scorned.

What is this mysterious "other site" that people were posting to?The UNDIS, in particular, the Circle of Sarcasm. http://theunoriginaldistroublemakersclub.yuku.com/directory

And to be clear - dispite claims from the DIS Webmasters - many (most?) folks banned during banfest 2008 were not banned for posting on that site. They were banned for complaining about the bannings, or even mentioning the bannings.

It's called the UNDIS. Their "Circle of Sarcasm" board is a nasty, yet amusing, little place where they comment on threads and people on the DIS. Sometimes people get really mean over there and some UNDIS members have been known to go completely overboard and stalk DIS posters not just on the DIS but also in real life.

BE AWARE! If you take a link from the UNDIS to the DIS you stand a chance of being banned.

salmoneous, a LOT of people were indeed banned for posting on the UNDIS, especially in the beginning. The folks at the end were banned for complaining about people being banned.

How does the DIS know who is posting on the UNDIS? Are they purposefully lurking there to see? Of course. What do you think DIS Webmasters do all day (when they aren't hunting down filter violations and making sure no precious DIS poster ever sees the name, "Greenban")

robinb

How does the DIS know who is posting on the UNDIS? Are they purposefully lurking there to see?I can only assume so. Some people had the same username on the DIS as on the UNDIS and they were banned. The DIS (any website, to be fair) also has the ability to determine the source URL from a clicked link and they used that information to also ban people who clicked on a link on the UNDIS.

Here is a description of what happened to start the mass bannings of April/May 2008:

And here is what WM Alex had to say about it:
Oh heck! Sorry! I didn't know that the DISBOARDS was blocked here.

Ah, thanks for the explanation.

Seems to me like the whole thing is pretty normal. I've been involved in online communications since the 80s, both using commercial services (at $8 per hour back then!) and running an independent bulletin board (and interacting with others who did the same -- some rivals, some friends). I've seen this sort of thing before, many times.

But at least now it's not a mystery to me any more. Now I understand it! Thank you.

Very well said indeed, I agree 100%.

I for one, revel in my bannedness!

I am happy that many like Sal and the 'Daves' have made it here, we have a richer set of forums for that!

If you consider my grapes to be bitter, don't drink my whine (pun intended), otherwise L'Chaim!

Lifetime ban for me. I had the audacity to suggest that one of the UK mods was acting in an unprofessional manner. :lmbo::ROTFL:

During/After the Sept 2005 DVC Board fiasco, I went into a self-imposed ban. I was reading the boards still, but not posting. Then they came out with all the new rules and the warnings etc. Feeling like I was witnessing kindergarten, ad knowing it would just give some people more leeway to slap wrists for no reason, I moved on.

I had been the recipient of a few nasty PMs from said dentist over the years, none of which were warrented. Or should I say, none of which were anything I didn't see any of the "favorites" doing all the time, like saying "I just sent you a PM" (oh the horror of it all, post and use the letters PM in the same post!).

Very interesting read about the 2008 banning. Not surprised to came to that, all in all, I just think it is their choice to treat people and act the way they do. They don't answer to anyone and ultimately don't have to.

Not banned, but definitely silenced. Does that count? :veryconfu
