So we have finally broken down and gone to Port Huron and picked up a pay as you go tracfone for our trips to Florida. Does anyone on here use their service? What can we expect from them and what are some of the good and bad points to this carrier. We just got tired of the 40-50 dollar cell bills if and when we had to use our phone to call home from Disney.

I got trac phones for my sons. The big trick is to make sure that you either activate for the one year or make sure that you activate the week before your points expire. It has taken me DAYS sometimes to get the minutes on to the phone. Once I started doing it over the internet instead of with the pre-paid cards, it got much smoother, but still sometimes took awhile. As soon as you activate minutes, check the phone for the minutes remaining and make sure that they posted. The longer that you wait from the time that you purchase til complaining, the more difficult it seems to make it for them to correct the minutes.
Now that I am used to the foibles of this, I really like it. It has saved me HUNDREDS of dollars for my DBS who almost never talks on his phone - - I had had him on a 3000 minute plan. 500 minutes has lasted him more than 6 months. BUT JUST LIKE DISNEY, YOU HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR THE "NEVER EXPIRE" OPTION!

Ok sounds good I called them today as I had a few questions for them. We bought the Motorolla phones that were 49.98 at Wal Mart in Port Huron that come with teh lifetime double minutes. I called to ask if the double minutes expired when we let the phone go dormant after the 90 days and we were assured that the double minutes were for the life of the phone so when we called to re activate the phone the double minutes would still be availlable. We obviously lost any remaining minutes that were left from before but we were still able to use the double minutes for any subsequent purchases which is unlike the double minutes card you purchase that is only gfood as long as the phone stays active once the phone becomes inactive the double minutes option is lost.
My wife and I and her parents each bought one for our upcoming Oct trip in which we are camping along the way and felt it was better to have a US based phone rather than carrying our Canadian based phones and paying out the wazoo for airtime and roaming and longdistance. We had looked at many different options and found this seemed to be teh best way.

I like my tracphone, and I've never had a problem loading minutes. I also search online for promo codes to get extra minutes.

I really think that the problem was with me. Now that I am used to it, I almost never have problems. I like how much money can be saved.
