Hey all! Long post follows...

Well, a week ago today, we checked into OKW for 4 nights. When we parked at our building, we dragged all we could carry to the front door only to find our room key would not work.

I called the phone number on the key and explained that I was standing at my room and that the key would not work. The operator then transferred me to the empty room as we stood out front. We heard the phone ringing through the door.

I called back. Explained again that I had just checked in and that the key would not open the door. I was transferred to housekeeping. There I was told that they could not help me and that I needed to go back to the front desk. I asked to be transferred to the front desk.

When transferred to the front desk, I was told that we should go back to the front desk. I explained that the last 2 of 3 vacations, we had key issues. We had our luggage at the door, on the second floor, and did not want to drag it back to the car. I was not moving until someone came and resolved the issue. I asked to speak with a manager and was told a manager was on the way to meet me outside my room.

About 4-5 minutes later, Eric and Goldie showed up. They had a PDA (Palm Pilot), master room key, and an emergency "hard" key that "was Mickey's key and would open any door at OKW". They tried the PDA, checking that the battery was charged and that the lock checked out. They tried to make it unlock the door and that did not work. They tried the emergency key, and, do their surprise, did not work. Eric radioed to the maintenance manager, but could not get a commitment as to when someone would be by to check the lock. He called to the front desk to request another room in Hospitality section. Only building available was 15. He suggested they bump another reservation to get us closer to Hospitality area.

Finally found a room, #1114. Eric us to head there and that Goldie would open room with master and that we could settle in while they fixed the reservation. About 15 minutes, Eric showed up with working keys and had placed a $50 credit on the room for our troubles.

Anyone else have room key issues? We waited 45 minutes one time at BCV for keys to replace bad keys. A few years ago we went through over 50 sets of keys at Pop Century only to find out 1/2 way through our trip that the battery was about dead in the lock.

Hi Jerry --- WOW I have never, ever had a room key issue. I don't blame you for wanting them to come to you instead of you going to them to fix it either. Especially in light of your other experiences.

WOW

1st I would like to thank you for finding the Broken Locks around the world

But yes locks do break and that sounds like more of the problem then the keys themselves. That is an entire other issue and can be caused by many things.

Bad locks.
Bad card
Demagintised (I think more damaged then this but ti's a standard issue excuse)
Damaged due to a faulty reader ( puts scratches on the mag strip , Happens in tha parks entrances, fastpass machines).

In all of our many trips we have only had 1 AP go bad so we have been very lucky. As I had some devises that ran card readers in some colleges I know some tricks to help keep them a bit safer.
