OK, here's another challenge to try to make life interesting.

We're going to start easy. Sign up and exercise for 30 minutes (of anything: walking, running, aerobices, those dance video games (DDR?)...) 3 times a week. A week goes from Sunday to Saturday (just to keep us all on the same schedule). Do that, and you'll stay on the island.

After a bit, Lisa and I (or anyone else who has ideas to suggest) will add weekly challenges to keep things interesting. As we continue to keep going, we will continually add to make things interesting. However, I'd really like everyone to start. I'd love to see everyone get in the at least 3 times a week habit to make a differnce in your life.

We'll start March 1 and go until we have one survivor. The first week, we'll only need to do 2 days, as we will start on a Wednesday.

I think DIscovery in it's current conditions is more like teh show, but we want to inspire ourselves, right? Pleasure Island sounds better, but in name nly, no treally a great place to inspire exercise. I think I'll Go with nono's tTreasure Island. Wait.. .hold that thought. How about Cataway Cay. Now there's a place I hear you do not want to get kicked oof of! (Then again, we could not dock on our cruise, so I wouldn't know.)

What the heck were you doing running at 1:30 a.m.???

I am going to participate, but I bet I will get "voted off" the week we go to WDW soon. I refuse to take vacation time to exercise when we walk pretty much all day. Not for purely selfish reasons, but recognizing that we all vacation often to WDW, should we "forgive" those weeks since there is so much walking involved?

Opinions everyone please.

Walking counts!! :headscrat Now, let's see... How much is it walking from lunch at Beaches and Cream to afternoon "tea" :ale: at Rose and Crown to dinner at Alfredo? :scratchch I guess the brews at R&C and pasta at Alfredo's would just be carb loading for the next's day's busy exercise schedule.

As for WDW trips. Nope, no "Immunity clause" for being at WDW. However, look at your watch. Although I'd like to see continuous, I have heard that 3 10 minutes walks is as good for you as 1 - 30 minute walk. (Still not sure I believe it, but exercise is exercise.) So, just make sure you have walked fro 20 minutes during the day. I'd have a hard time believing you could go a day at WDW without walking that far.

I just found this thread after Carrie's PM........didn't know i was supposed to be riting in. I've done my 2 30 minute sets on the treadmill and added my usual sit ups, squats and lunges. But on TV last night, they said that for the 'middle' area fat....and that is what I have....that aerobic training isn't going to dent it, that I need to use weights. I only have up to 12 lbs here, so I guess I will have to go sign up at the community gym. Maybe if I had my golden retrievor sit on me and then I do situps??????

Carrie, does the new week start on Sunday? And is that weigh in ? Sorry that my mind is mush.

Way to go, Lisa! What kind did you buy?

I bought some Asics Gel (GT-2110). A mid-range running shoe, nothing really special just having the right shoe for the activity seems to have helped. Who da thunk? I have always had a problem with my right knee that if I did too much hiking (especially downhill) or running it would then not be good for a couple days. I think (my expert opinion! LOL!) it's a structural problem, that my knee/ankle are not aligned properly and can stress the knee when the foot extends back repetively in an activity. I seem to do OK on the treadmill but do have to watch for signs of stress on the knee and stop. I should see someone about it again. Years ago I saw my family doctor.

Want to trade knee stories? What's up with your knee Lisa?

matysgranma
03-14-2006, 10:30 PM
Lisa and Lisa! Hope your knees are not causing too many problems. Had lots of problems with my right knee also. I cannot run or jog anymore---too much stress on the knee. I'm okay on the treadmill, though. But I have to keep it at a slow pace.

Been sick all week....went to the doc only to find out I've got bronchitis and was given strict orders to NOT exercise. Meanie! ;) j/k but it really messes up my running schedule AND it I sure don't want to get kicked off castaway cay. Although I could help Cobbler out with the CM duties.

Amy, you take care of yourself and :listen: to what the doctor orders. Your body needs time to heal and you don't want to put any more stress on it. You do whatever it takes to feel better. We're rooting for you!:cheerlead I think I'm correct in saying that we're all doing this to get back in shape and not to stay or get kicked off the island. That being said, may I suggest that next month we have the same exercise format, but let's leave out the "getting kicked off" part. Some times there are things that we just don't have any control over (like getting bronchitis) and I just feel so sorry for those who are trying so hard and then kinda feel defeated. And might I add, HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY TO YOU ALL. HERE'S HOPING YOU GET TO DO A LITTLE (OR A LOT) OF IMBIBING SOME TIME TODAY! :ale: :bouncingg

:boohoohoo That's the cruelest part. The medicine I'm taking says "DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL". Arrrrrggggghhhhhh my dbil has guinness waiting for us tonight. And I have to drink water. :yuck:

Okay....vent over ;). I think I'll make my exercise goal for the week. My coughing is MUCH better and I slept through the night for the first time in a while!!! So that being said, I may try to take a nice walk and do some abs later. But don't put me down for it yet....I'll report back if I make it out my front door LOL!

Still have to catch up with everything I've been putting off for 2 weeks, but at least I made it out of the corporate dungeon today.

lllovell - Thanks so much for updating the list!!!!:loveisint

matysgranma - I like your idea. I'm thinking doctor's orders should be excused, but I don't know how others feel.

As for me, :bagovermy , I don't think I'll make it this week. I worked late Monday and had to clean the house fo rTuedays guest. Woreked a little late Tuesday and then had guests. Wednesday, I worked until 6:45, got home at 7:45. WOrked from 8:30 to 9:30. Been sick all week, was able to propoerly digest my first solid food yesterday. Started getting dh's cold Wednesday. I just want to crawl in bed. WOn't be home until close to 11 pm tonight. I'm really hoping dh can get over his guilt so that we don't have to go to the ILs this weekend. We both need to get better and get some rest.

If things don't get worse, I'll be moving agian tomorrow. The worst part is I'm exhausted, but mylegs are cramping up at night due to lack of use. :( Not a very good leader this week. :( SOrry for the whining.

Chimera - I just noticed your quote in your siggy and I love it!

I am fine with Drs. excuses being ok - we know we dont want anyone sick.

I hate to say this, but I am thinking the knee thing is because we are getting *cough cough* older. :headache: This is why walking is best for me, but I haven't pushed too hard yet on the little bit of running, so I am still feeling GREAT. That said, I am also still just doing the minimum 3, so that might be why as well.

Laura, I believe you may be right about the age thing and the knees, mine is also definitely related to my being a good twenty pounds above where I need to be to jog much:tearsaref

I can definitely agree to an "illness excuse." It does appear that the weather is doing a number on many of us.

We are leaving today for HHI:birhdaypa I took a rest day yesterday and likely will today as well since we will be on the road for seven hours:yo-yo: I am going to be working out on vacation. As for the knees, I dropped 10 lbs. in February before starting to run. (The two times I've done South Beach Phase 1 faithfully, I've been able to lose and maintain about a 10 lb weight loss each time).

Have a great vacation!!!!:jumpingbe

Just squeeked in a session. I should have done the treadmill this morning but didn't get going fast enough. By the end of the day I was/am feeling like I'm coming down with something (totally wiped, sore throat, stuffy nose, achy). DH was supportive of the Cay and put the little one to bed and incouraged me to go in the basement and do something. So something it was! I used a new balence ball and did some floor exercises. Nothing great but I will do for today. I feel like I do more when I jog/sweat on the treadmill but I need to branch out to some muscle building exercises, so this was probably a good thing.

I'm baaacckk!!! I did work out on my vacation. Yay! It was definitely the challenge that kept me on track!

I did 30 minutes walking on Sunday with the family :) Then on Tuesday, DH and I walked 45 minutes all around HHI:lovestruc On Wednesday, DH, me, DM and DF got out and walked three miles (slower pace, one hour), all the way to the shopping center that has Guiseppe's in it:woohoo: Then, finally, my fourth workout this week was on Thursday when DH and I walked for 50 minutes, about 2 1/2 miles.:jumpingbe I had to be very careful with my knee. I am wearing a $450 knee brace when I exercise.

When we arrived to HHI, we found out that DS13 had a stomach virus! All of our sleeping arrangements had to change because we did not want DM and DF to be exposed to the virus, if at all possible. Since, DH and I shared the 2nd bedroom with the boys, I did not have room to use my yoga mat  I've missed all of you:grouphug:
