I was hoping someone could clue me in on the World Passport Collection. I am new to DVC and saw a ton of WPC spots marked on the map in the welcome packet. The points required seemed pretty moderate when compared to the Concierge level. From what I gather, the main downfall is paying the fee to that third party company.

From experience, what are the positives and negatives?

I can't afford airfare and tickets for my family for annual trips to Disney World at this stage. Maybe in a few years, but not now, so I was hoping to use my points at closer-to-home hotels in the off years. Is this a good idea?

With the World Passport Collection, the biggest problem is getting what you want, when you want it. You have to match up with a member from that resort (non-DVC) for the time and resort you want. You'll need to be flexible with your dates and the resort you want. It's usually better to give a wider time frame and multiple locations if they can't match you up immediately. And give yourself plenty of time to get the match. You can deposit points for these trades 24 months ahead of time.

You've always had to stay a week, Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun, but now I think you can get a shorter stay. But not sure how that one works.

We have 3 nights at SanDestin in FL booked for May via the World Passport collection.

I just called and told them where and when I wanted. They checked the available dates and I was able to get my second choice, it actually worked out better. I got May instead of April.

The info they had in January when I booked was last updated in Dec, so it was a bit behind.

I thought you had to book short stays via the computer?

Nope. I called and told them what I wanted. They transferred me to the group that does the non-DVC reservations and they set it up.

The CM was VERY helpful.

BTW, I am there right now and am connected via wireless!

This is our family's thoughts as well, just in case airfare or driving costs get too high for annual trips....

You are generally better off renting your points for $10 - $14 per point... and using the cash to pay for your local vacation. Certain exceptions apply. Your milage may vary.

That depends on where you stay.

Our recent trip to Club Intrawest at SanDestin was 34 pts per night for a 2 bedroom.

At VB (a comparable resort, I would assume) the 2 bedrooms are 26 pts per night.

There is still the $95 fee, but it is not as bad to trade out as some people make it.

Club Intrawest resorts are really nice. I've only been to see the one at Whistler, and our friends who are members love it there.

We really like the one at SanDestin.

I wrote up a trip report on that "other" board if you are interested.
