Anyone who wants to chime in feel free... the MT boards have been very unhelpful!

Here's the situation. I'm an at home medical transcriptionist. Been looking for a different job and got a great offer today. However, they do not support Vista for 20% of what my work would be. I was going to use DH's computer but I turned it on this morning and is not working right. Who knows what is wrong with it... it is doing what my old computer was doing which means its fried.

I, literally, just got a new computer 9 days ago so it has Vista. I called to see about going to XP on this machine and was told that it would be $130 and that they could not guarantee that it would work right. They also said they could special order me a different computer since it is for business that has XP Pro on it and I could return this one. I hate to turn this job down but at the same time, what is going to happen when XP goes away.

Here is what I was thinking about doing... calling the HR rep on Mon. morning and telling her the situation and asking if they can put me on their platform that runs with Vista only instead of both. I hate to make a bad impression since we have gone this far in the process but I do not know what to do.

I have also tested with other companies and have offers to test with more so I can still see about a job but if they don't work out then I am stuck in the company I really hate.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!!

Check out this article (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24293129/).

MS is planning on providing updates and security patches for XP through 2014.

Most businesses are waiting for the appearance of Windows 7, which Bill Gates said is going to appear some time in the next year. (It is home consumers who are buying Vista, not businesses.)

Can you just purchase a bare-bones computer that has XP on it (maybe like Intel's Classmate PC) and use that for some of your work?

I would suggest maybe trying to partition your hard drive and putting different OSs in there, but that can get complicated.

Sorry I can't offer more help. It's hard to know how the company will react to your request.
