I'm just wondering how many people use locks on their luggage? I went to the trouble a couple of trips ago of getting the TSA approved locks. One was broken somewhere between getting checked for the flight and coming back to me at arrival gate.
Do you use them? What about international flights? Advice?

I gave up on locks after 4 were broken on one trip! It was in the early days of the TSA approved locks, but it just seemed silly to try it again after that experience. I also have the feeling that they do not leave luggage just sitting out unattended anymore (but that may be my own self-justification talking).

I still use them. Last year at LAX we had to take them off before we could check our luggage. I thought that was weird. I don't know what is happening to my luggage once it leaves my hands. I haven't had any other issues with the locks.

We use them on occassion. Depends on what we have packed and where we are going. We will use them on our trip tp Atlantis in June, but not on our trip to Vero Beach at Memorial Day weekend.

We stopped using luggage locks. We pack our valuables, including DW's diamond tiara in our carry-on.:ROTFL:

We also gave up using luggage locks. We have not had any issues since doing so.

We try to travel light and only take carry-on. But when it's necessary to check luggage we use TSA approved locks. I've had one broken so far.
I also use the locks on my luggage when we're not in the room.

We haven't used locks in years. Not only do I not carry anything really valuable, I figured if anyone really wanted to get into a suitcase, a lock wasn't going to stop them. (Especially since our luggage is all of the canvas/fabric type - it could be cut open without too much trouble.)
However, I think the locks did serve a purpose in simply keeping the zippers from coming open. So we just buy split key rings and put through the zipper pulls to keep them from coming apart. Keeps it closed, but is no big deal to get into when/if needed. But these might also deter the 'casual thief' (i.e., if he can get in quickly and easily, he might try, but otherwise won't bother) since it does take a minute to undo it. That's my reasoning, anyway!

Based on this article (MSNBC) (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24187702/) I don't think I'd bother locking the luggage.

We still use them. We have the TSA luggage straps, but we also have some regular TSA locks too. I don't think any of them have ever been broken. The only thing that has gotten broken was our brand new luggage tags travelling internationally to Barcelona for DCL's trans-Atlantic cruise last year. Somewhere between here and Barcelona I think 3 out 4 were broken.

I've always figured that locks keep the honest people out. The organized thief is going to get in anyway.
