Somewhere else I was reading a lengthy post about when, if, can they, have online reservation booking for DVC. Then I wondered maybe DVC never wants to have online booking. If DVC rentals is a such a big problem would not online reservations make points easier to rent. I for one will do not plan on renting my points to a non DVC member due to the hassle of calling MS. But If at 10:00 PM I can book a room for someone else and immediately e-mail the client as proof so I can get my money and be done in 30 minutes I would consider it. This could increase the amount of people renting points and bother/compete with DVC even more. So is this a DVC conspiracy or they don't want to spend money to make it happen. For the people who rent out points how would this impact your time to rent points.

DVC rentals are NOT a problem, period.

DVC benefits from these rentals far more than it hurts anything. This idea of the big bad rental guy ready to snatch everyone's rooms is ridiculous. These people renting out rooms have just as much a right to that room as anyone else. It frosts me that the simple minded among us have a problem with it. They pay dues like anyone else and have just as much right to a room as anyone. If they are booking in the 11 month window they have FAR more of a right to that room than an owner of another resort trying to get a 7 month ressie.

The lack of an online booking engine has nothing to do with renting points. It has EVERYTHING to do with Disney's ineptitude and a lack of incentive to spend the cash on it. Disney has proven time and again that they are followers not leaders so as usual we wait forever for things. Don't buy the bull from DVC either about it being a very complex thing to do, it is not. It can be done.

A friend of mine does contract work for corporate Disney. He is an integration specialist/programmer. He doesn't work on DVC specific computer system/network. He has told me several times how messed up thier system is at corporate. Each segmant/division has thier own system. Amazingly, too many of the systems are not compatible with each other. Look at the developer points, they had to be figured out by hand.

Our Westin timeshares do not have online booking capability either. Westin has been working on thier system for 10 years, or so they say. Programs currently exist (look at Hyatt), they just need to purchase and implement. Every hotel system out there has an online booking feature, using one of them for DVC should be easy to modify and install.

:iagree: The fact is that WHO is the room does not matter. The points were purchased to be used. The maintenance fees are paid by the owner. What the owner does with the points that have been bought and paid for should be no one else's business. The points are the owner's private property - subject to usage rules and regulations - which DOES NOT include not renting. How can you forbid someone to rent something that they own outright?

Disney should go to an online system it may cost them up front but in the long run Im sure it will save them a ton in employee costs. Look at the airlines they charge you extra to use there people. If you have no bags to check you can go right to the gate and board the plane only seeing a security person before you board this saves the airlines a ton everything is done before you leave your home.

In addition the our DVC points, we also own point through Wyndham (formerly Fairfeild). They have offered online reservations for some time, but it was a very frustrating system and it went much quicker by phone. However, their latest improvement was WONDERFUL! I recently booked a short, last minute stay online at around midnight and it was a breeze! So, if Disney is interested, I'm sure there is a way. But in all fairness Wyndham timeshares is huge compared to Disney's.

I know what you are getting at with size relative to the cost but , IMO, the fact that DVC is relatively small makes it even easier to accomplish.
