When I look at resale listings it frequently indicates that some or all of the points will become available at some future date. Can you reserve a room before that date (I mean book the reservation) or do you have to have the points in hand before making the call?
Thanks

DI'm simplifying a bit, but the short answer is that the points have to be in your account on the day your arrive. You can make a reservation 11 months prior to your desired check out date for your home resort (the ones associated with your points) and 7 months prior to check out date for the other DVC resorts.
So for example, if the contract you purchase doesn't have points coming until February 1, 2009, you can still make a reservation at your home resort for a stay in March, 2009 (as long as you call no more than 11 months prior to check out date). You could also reserve a stay that will occur earlier than February 1, 2009, but to do that, you would be borrowing points from your 2009 allotment.

Points available also includes being able to borrow from you next use year. So if you've used all of your 2008 points for example but have points you can borrow from 2009 you are good to go for 2008.
Trying to make sense of it all can drive you to drink! :ale: It's really not as complicated as it first looks to be!
