Beginning immediately, DVC Members are able to book "Short Stays" ONLINE at dvcmember.com!

The Short Stays exchange program, operated through Interval International, allows Members to book a quick getaway (ranging from three to six nights) directly through II. Booking windows are from 30 - 4 days prior to check-in.

Each time Members visit the site (which can be visited by accessing the Member site and then navigating to "Interval International" in the "Plan My Vacation" menu), they'll find a different listing of resorts pre-populated on the Exchange tab, based on the inventory that's typically available. A listing can either be chosen from among those available (current resorts include Palm Desert, VA Beach/Wlilliamsburg, Branson, NH, Scottsdale/Sedona, and MA), or a search can be performed. After other criteria (dates, etc.) are entered, available resorts will be presented. Searches may be performed multiple times. Icons listed next to the resort will reveal additional information about the resorts upon mouse roll-over. In addition, the number of Vacation Points required for the exchange will be displayed next to each available resort.

Clicking the "Exchange" button will take members to the booking screen. Members will have 18 minutes to complete the transaction. If the transaction is not completed in that time, the booking will be returned to inventory.
Booking information (including resort requirements) should be reviewed carefully.

DVC will confirm that Members have enough points reserve the exchange, and a final confirmation will be sent by mail or email once the transaction has been finalized.

A $75 transaction fee applies.

Prior to using points from a Member's current UY, DVC will first utilize and banked, borrowed, or holding points for an exchange. Next, the current UY's points will be used. Finally, if necessary, the following UY's points will be borrowed from a master contract.

**Stays longer than six nights must be booked through Member Services.

One way to increase the number of points used in exchanges is to make it easier to do so... This follows the general theme of stressing options outside the WDW resorts.

I bet this is due to the reduced availability at WDW - developer points and all. It gives members a chance to use their points when no DVC is available. I think that it is a good thing, but sad that it is necessary.

I was excited when I first heard this news because there are some fun places within a short driving distance so we thought we might do a getaway or two. Um, NO. No availability anywhere in the great state of Texas. HMMMMM. I think this is going to be one of those things you have to either get VERY lucky or work way too hard to get some R&R. I'm thinking we'll pitch a tent in the backyard instead.

Looks like it may take some time for II and DVC to get more location packages arranged. I tried looking into a few and came up empty. I’ll give it a try later.

About time we can book something on the website. I still do not understand why we are making phone calls to get reservations. Hotels everywhere us the web, why aren't we???? :veryconfu:

:worship: EXACTLY.

Now I understand that with the whole points and use year thing it's not quite as easy as giving them your credit card number, but it really would help if we could even just check availability online. Then maybe be able to submit the request subject to DVC MS confirmation?

Member Services is ancient and barbaric. If there is big sore thumb in DVC... member services is it!!! The people are fine... in fact, they are great. The problem is the tools they have are so far behind the times it is laughable. The fact that you need to call and talk to a human to book a simple reservation in the year 1998 would be way behind the times. This persisting a decade longer is unimaginable. Our MF's are paying for antique labor intensive systems that provides inconsistent (and hence poor) customer service.

It is time to turn this member services "carousell of progress" ride 60 degrees... and move to scene two.

In the mean time... I suggest that you dust off an old rotary phone to help make the nostalgic experience more authentic.

Can't agree more Jim, but how do we "lowly" members get it changed. Obviously complaining hasn't work or at least hasn't worked yet!!
