Hi,
After 9 trips, since 1998, to Disney World My wife and I broke down and entered into the DVD WORLD. In the past we would always go for 2 summers in a row then take a year off. By doing this we would buy AP's and plan it to get 2 summers out of each pass. But now I'm hearing, from some, that the pass begins from the day that you buy it, not the firsy day of use. We would order the AP sometimes on line, get a voucher and when we got to the park they would give us the actual pass starting on the first day that we entered the park. Has this policy changed or is the DVD discount the reason for this? :scratchch
Our firsy DVD trip is 2 weeks in July and Aug. '08 and we can't wait!

The AP goes from date of purchase to date of purchase as far as I know. If you renew you can keep your date or change it to the date of renewal.

I was told when I bought our AP's that it begins the first day you enter the park by a couple of different representativies. We are going the first 2 weeks in June and will seriously freak out if this is not the case!

I think when you buy new AP's they don't activate until you redeem them. We bought ours for the first time while on vacation so they were active right away. Now when we renew it is from the current expiration date. Sorry if my other post was confusing.

I bought ours in advance online and redeemed the vouchers at the park. The expiration date is 1 year from the day we redeemed the vouchers at the park. I don't think it would have mattered if we used the pass that day or not since the expiration date was printed on the pass before we entered the park.
I guess they key is don't redeem the voucher until you intend on using it.

If you buy the DVC discounted AP or PAP online or by calling Member Services, you get a voucher (or a will call confirmation number). The vouchers are mailed to you, cost extra (for the mailing charges) and say "Excahnge certificate" on the back.
Your year of admission begins on the day you exchange the voucher for the actual pass (or pick up the actual pass if you have a will call number).
If you buy the pass on site, your year of admission starts on the day you buy the pass.
I am 100% positive that is how it currently works with the DVC-discounted passes as well as the regular or non-discounted APs or PAPs.

And she is correct, it's the renewals that they stick you on now. If you renew your AP it starts the day your AP expired (day after...whatever), use to be you could renew a few months later and stretch it out a bit, now if you renew even a few months later, it goes back to the day your original expired.
After 4 trips to WDW in a year we will likely take a break for a year or so then just buy new AP's when it's time to go again. But we are getting our last one in just days before the AP's expire. :beaniepro

Thanks, I just wanted to get the tickets ahead of time so I can send for the Disney Dinning Experience, get the Mickey Monitor and use the other perks of it.

Uhh, you have to actually activate your AP's to get the DDE, I just went thru that last year. Good news is now you can get the DDE and pick up a card the same day, might even be able to do it at the same time.....can't recall...
Don't know about the monitor...

We just did this in March. We like the Guest Relations in DTD because they never seem to be busy. We just showed our shiny new blue cards and bought 2 APs and a DDE all at once.
Re the Monitor - I just read it online.

Last year I ordered the AP voucher, then ordered the DDE card about a a month before our trip, and then turned in the voucher for the AP. So I was able to order and receive the DDE card before I received the AP.

I also got my DDE card with only an AP voucher. The AP does not have to be activated to get the DDE card.

But the DDE year starts from the month of purchase. You are usually better off to purchase it when you buy your AP (or exchange your voucher for the actual pass). That way your DDE and AP start at the same time - could be important if you try to get 2 or more trips out of your AP & DDE purchases.
I have purchased the DDE over the phone with only the numbers from the back of a voucher. But I don't know if they still allow that since you can now buy the DDE on site.
What is a dde? We just decided that it would be worth it to get the ap. We are going to okw on Sat. so I guess we have to do it there--is this very time consuming? What is the procedure? thanks--Mary

What is a dde?
Disney Dining Experience (DDE) is a dining discount program for eligible Florida Residents and Annual Passholders good for 20 percent off food and beverage at a number of Walt Disney World Resort hotel and theme park restaurants and lounges. The discount is good for up to 10 persons in your party.
Thank you for the information--I would never have gotten those initials. Do you pay extra for the dde or is it included with the ap? Thanks==Mary

Here is a question for you - we purchased our AP's on 2/29/08 - when do they expire? 2/28/09 or 3/1/09?
The full 365 days would be 3/1/09; but the expiration on the ticket says 2/29/09 - which there isn't one.
I plan on asking when we are back there next week.
Obviously you are right on that date. We arrive on Sat. also, but okw. I can't wait. Mary
